CIVILIZATION VI |OT| He's Got the Whole World in His Hands

Just finished my first game, as China going for a cultural victory on Settler. I ended up running out of time and Saladin got the score victory.

All I can say is fuck barbarians.

So after a few games, it really seems like Religious victory is overpowered against the computer. If you rush Stonehenge and then just start churning out Missionaries and Apostles like nobody's business, you can win really early on before the AI even puts up a fight. did the same thing in a game against my friends and surprise beat them out of nowhere. It's sort of unfortunate that I discovered that, as now I find it hard to develop a game where I go for anything other than the religious win. Have to challenge myself, I guess, but the other victory conditions seem so much harder. Add on top of that, the ability for Theocracies to spend Faith to buy military units, and I think they may have pushed religion just a bit too far in this game. Next time through, I'll see if there's another path to victory that's as clear-cut, but at the moment it seems like I'll have to start disabling religious victory when making a custom game if I want something balanced.

How did your friends succumb that easily to a religious victory? Were you escorting all your missionaries/apostles with military units?

The AI is pretty stupid when it comes to religious units. All I need is one horseman or knight to mow then all down in one turn.

I've been playing since release with no issues other than the occasional crash, but after a crash earlier this afternoon my game now seems to be fucked and unplayable. I can get it to load the main menu where it seems a little funky (delayed responses when clicking on things), low fps, but when I try and start/load a game, I simply get stuck on the following screen forever - I can't alt-f4 the application, I can't switch to task manager, I just have to reboot my PC every single time:

HPWV6p3.jpg

Any ideas? I'm jonesin' over here for one more turn of that sweet sweet Civ VI.

Also, is it just me, or does "Fortify until healed" not consistently heal units anymore?

Yep, might be a bug or maybe I'm just not paying attention. I swear though that I have fortify until healed and it didn't heal. Also have told troops to move across a map only to have them seemingly stop, not sure if it is a bug or all of it is just me looking at it mid turn?

How slow is the slowest setting? Same as Civ V or faster/slower? I mostly liked to play marathon only.

Another question, how big are the biggest maps?

Verify the game files in Steam. Try again. If that fails, maybe empty the save files folder / rename it to something innocuous so the game has to make new ones, see what happens. Last resort is keeping your save files and deleting the whole thing and reinstalling

Ok, weekend over for me. Played 43h of this, enjoying the hell out of it! Can't imagine how good this will be after they release some expansions.

Only issue I'm having is that the game completely blackscreens my PC if I quit by clicking 'Exit to desktop'. I have no choice but to reboot if that happens.

Anybody else experience this problem?

My second game was an 'Epic' run but I abandoned it as it was boring. The game seems like it was developed towards a Standard playtime. Of course production and research is meant to take a long time, but with the delay between turns it really drags to achieve anything. I can't imagine what Marathon would be like.

Yes!!! Having same problem, cannot quit to desktop. Can't exit program through Alt-F4 or Task Manager. Can only remedy via a complete reboot.

Has anyone tried streaming the game via steam? I have an underpowered laptop in my office and my legit PC in my living room. Civ isn't quite the game to play on a TV, so I'm hoping to stream it to my laptop through steam, but don't want to jump on the purchase until I have some testimony from GAF.

Can't wait to play it either way. I've set aside my entire Thanksgiving break for it. Until then, I'll probably not have the time. I'm glad to hear all the good news though. Civ V is in my top 3 games of all time.

I can play Civ 6 on my Surface Pro 4 with everything turned down to low, but when I'm home and not at my desk I use in-home streaming and it works out perfectly fine. I have an AC capable router, so speed isn't an issue even over wireless (though the host PC itself is.hooked to the router directly via ethernet).

Thanks, I tried both verifying the game cache as well as reinstalling it earlier but still no luck.

Looking around the internet, it seems I'm not the only one who's game just suddenly stopped working today. There are a lot of people who just like me we're playing fine all weekend, then starting this afternoon could no longer get into a game.

Are they capable of spawning out of thin air?

I swear I've cleared my current map of barbarians, but they just keep coming back.

Also, why the hell is the AI so aggressive?

I am just having the worst technical issues with this. My computer meets the requirements and was running it fine last night after I upgraded to Windows 10, but now after launching it it took an unbelievable amount of time after hitting continue at launch. Then when I finally got through to try and load a game, it was just black for at least 5-10 minutes before I gave up. It's maddening..

So in the game I just played I focused industrial zones and they were awesome EXCEPT the buildings in the zone would require repair every 30 or so turns. They would look as if they were pillaged except no enemies were ever in my borders. It happened to three different cities. I would repair them and they would be damaged again about 30 turns later. Anyone else encountered this? Is it a bug?

After playing the game for a little bit, anyone else thrown off by the step back they took graphically? Normally I'm not a graphics whore but Civ 5 looked much better graphically imo. From the landscape to the water, to even the UI. I'm enjoying Civ 6 don't get me wrong. It's just so glaring.
I dont know why they didnt do it sooner. The Civ Revolution artstyle was always so much better imo.

I'm sure it's been discussed, but my GOD, land is at such a premium in VI. I have yet to be happy with any second city.

Quick is so much better than Standard as a game speed it's not even funny.

Ended my second game, this time on Emperor with Scythia, with a pretty impressive Civilization style finale.

Started near Japan and did what Scythia does, overran it when it only had 2 cities and I had a flood of Mounter Archers, then Spain declared war on me and I ate it piece by piece.
In the meantime Sparta ran far ahead Tech wise, but I used my numbers and ranged options to just take one city at a time without taking many losses, when I ate enough to rival them in tech, I started building my nuclear power up. And that's when lategame strats started.
Just used all my Helicopters (which are light cavalry so they are really easy to come by for Scythia) to run in after nuking a city, taking it at the price of a single Heli.
Did the same for all their cities, then built up enough nukes to basically hit all the capitals of all the civs at the same time, taking a Domination victory basically in 2 turns from having 4 civilizations still against me.

At that point I could've easily gone for Science victory as well, considering that my production capabilities were overpowering.

I guess Immortal is next.

Mine started doing the exact same thing tonight. I've played over 25 hours so far, but now I can't even load a game, and it hangs exactly where yours does. :(

I'm verifying the game cache via steam now, I'll report back if it helps.

Brazil is fun. Those Rainforest adjacency bonuses for districts are cool and a nice way to learn about good city layout.

Looking forward to your response. Haven't been able to play all afternoon.

Hi all.

I'm a Civaholic. It's been about 20 long minutes since I last played. Those bitches I slayed had it coming - telling me I had weak armies and was bankrupt and shit.

That's all I have to say about that.

Curious to why you prefer Quick speed. I mentioned above in a reply to another poster that Epic wasn't great because of how much it dragged the game out. Is Quick 'just right'?
I found Standard to be a true slog, too many turns required to get the basic stuff up, too many turns to progress, too many turns to do anything. Getting to the endgame took forever and there was a lot of waiting in between.
I didn't really enjoy the game I had with it.
The fact is that I'm used to watching online speed for Civ5, and the standard was just way too much for me.
Quick managed to give me enough time to do stuff like the Eureka bonuses before the window closed and actually get stuff done in a decent amount of real time as to feel some form of progress, so yeah, for me it was just right.
Then again, I may enjoy online speed as well, but I'll leave that for when I'll play multiplayer.

To be fair, I went with a domination victory this time, so it was already bound to be more active.

Yep have had that happen as well after long sessions (6+ hours).

I found that playing in borderless window instead of fullscreen let me be able to force quit the game.

Just got my first cultural victory, always my favorite. Playing as Brazil, it's amazing the number of great people you can produce. The problem is finding places to publish their work. Also, finished without producing a single encampment district or going to war: good guy Teddy and his Peacekeeper agenda was my neighbour.

Yeah, if you go Great People focused you'll have a ridicolous number of them. At a certain point I didn't even know where to park them before popping them.

The game likes to freeze when closing it, as others have pointed up. That's a bit annoying, I guess.

I had had this experience. I first tried to do it inside and outside my territory. That didn't work. So I did it inside a city. At first for few turns it didn't look like it was healing. Then all of a sudden next turn bam full health lol. I put it as another thing that the devs need to look at.

I had that problem, couldn't exit the game.
I switched from full screen to windowed borderless and it closes to desktop now

Came here to complain about this as it's happened twice now. Can't even bring up task manager as it steals focus from everything else. Trying to close it from the taskbar does nothing. I ended up just doing ctrl+alt+del, log out, and log back in.

So the game crashed on quit and now is freezing on load. I've deleted everything and redownloaded, but problem is still there. Any suggestion?

After playing 30 hours this happened to me, started the game and it froze during load. Now I can't start the game anymore.
