That is 7 teams. Guess who is the 8th seed? Hint: It is the Mavs.

The Mavs are NOT going to get the 8th seed. Why? Because they will tank to get a high draft pick. Even Cuban himself said before they got DJ they were planning to tank. Cuban & company are not going to fight for a meaningless 8th seed when their next move is to rebuild.

Not to mention the Suns are a much better team so even if the Mavs tried to get into the playoffs (which they aren't going to do because they will start to rebuild after this) the Suns will have the better record anyway.

Even the Jazz are a better team. Mavs aren't stupid enough to try and strive for a 8th seed when there are 2 better teams going at that spot as well.

Fucking what???

JUST TURNED HEEL... these motherfuckers have been in Hogan Heel mode for years. They don't have their own court, they are run by racist assholes, Doc (enough said), CP3 (enough said).... Ya'll are crazy with the JUST TURNED HEEL nonsense..

They are a trash franchise that has been the heel of the NBA for years.

Perfection.

Jazz/Suns, possibly Kings/Twolves.

Y'all lost Ellis and Tyson and all you got back is ACL less Wes. Not enough talent to compete with the first two teams I mentioned.

Mavs always pick up almost retired free agents mid season. They were supposed to be "rebuilding" for the last 3 seasons. Cuban will always take the bait of teams whose season is over's veterans.

I would guess that Mark Cuban will play the angry and indignant card to try to curry some sort of advantage, but secretly I bet he's not that displeased. Now he has an excuse to tank and rebuild without being judged.

Incidentally, why does everyone hate Cuban so much? I don't know a whole lot about the guy so I don't understand why he is so reviled here. Is it for a substantive reason, or more like "douchey haircut?"

I don't care for either the clippers or the Mavs but this whole situation was ugly as hell. Clipper organization while didn't do anything illegal I think did something really underhanded and shitty. But mostly the blame lies with DJ because he was an immature unprofessional pos. He couldn't sit down with Cuban and explain him changing his mind? He couldn't even answer the phone? It boggles my mind.

Would love to see what other GMs/Owners think of this because I can't see them thinking too highly of the clipper organization as a whole now.

Perfection.
You have to win something to go Hogan heel mode though.

lol, unless the Mavs do something big they have no chance at the playoffs.

That is my point. They will like they always do. They will get enough for the 8th seed. Most Mavs fans at this point would like them to just go lotto and trade away Dirk but Cuban can't stand to see the Mavs suck.

He is in now way shape or form worth Bron money.

He actually is, which is why multiple teams were willing to give that kind of money to him. He does a lot of things that are extremely valuable that your average fan who thinks every great player scores 25 ppg doesn't recognize. Having great rim protection is just as important as being a great shooter. Being able to cut to the basket and score there at a high percentage (which DJ goes better than just about anyone) is as important as being a great passer. He has very elite skill sets.

I just don't think it's reasonable to expect the playoffs for them at this point. They have a significantly worse version of their team from last year and teams like the Suns, Jazz and maybe even the Timberwolves and Blazers will be competing for that 8th spot.

Yeah it seems unlikely that Mark Cuban can't find DA Jordan's address.

Especially considering that Cuban is friends with DAJ's (soon-to-be former?) agent, who certainly knows where his client lives. Broussard is such an all-around embarrassment (which is why I'm glad he exists).

I won't disagree with DJ getting almost all of the blame here, but putting blame on the Clippers seems odd to me. I mean, Dallas came to a non-binding, verbal agreement with a guy from a team that just had the single best season in its existence (by virtue of beating the Spurs), a new owner flush with cash and a setup desperate to win now.

Did they really expect LA to not try to talk him down? Did they really not send someone to the house? The Clippers were literally his "ex", dropping by to ask if they could try again. They had all the time in the world to say all the right things.

If DJ was that important to the franchise that they should consider tanking now, it's just crazy to think they would just assume the Clippers wouldn't use their leverage.

Phoenix Suns. Everything that could have gone wrong the past season with them did, it makes people forget that they have a talented core and a lot of players that could take a step forward.

Same spot as the Jazz, but with a more balanced roster IMO.

Yea, I guess you are right. Especially in the West where defensive play is non existent.

LOL. Checkmate.

Think mavs dodged a bullet here... they were going to make DJ the "centerpiece" of the team. He obviously is not up to the task mentally and I cant see a scenario where a team with him as their best player would win a chip (esp when Dwight couldn't even do it). They were a 2nd round team at best even with him.

Hindsight, should have kept Tyson Chandler but they would still be a 2nd round team. Maybe lottery is for the best.

He's really good at what he does, but he's not a "great" player. If he was, the Clippers would be a lot better than they are considering all the pieces they have. He's a rim protecting, lob-catching specialist with no post game or scoring ability of his own. He's good enough to be a max player today where those contracts are getting passed around like candy.

The reason they aren't better than they are has more to do with a severe lack of depth. If the Spurs and Warriors surrounded their "big 3" with scrubs instead of quality pieces they wouldn't be as good either. You can win a title with DeAndre as your third, sometimes bordering on 2nd, best player. That to me makes him great. You can't say that about a lot of guys.

You could win a title with DeAndre as your 3rd, but as you said, you'd probably still need more pieces. He's the 3rd best player on his team right now, playing with the best PG, one of the best PFs, and one of the best coaches in the league (overrated IMO), and they still can't make it to the conference finals.

3rd best... Anyone that far down the pecking order and stays a 2nd round exit can't be a great player.

All this DJ fuckery made me glad we lost the DJ sweepstakes signed Rolo and the K.O.Q. instead. Still a strange feeling to have a drama free offseason.
