so? They were going to decrease anyway without the rock, plus the network underperformed too. He wasn't the most amazing draw, he did have loud as crap crowds though.

Why would Daniel Bryan be as big a draw as the Rock? The Rock was a draw because he was the top star with Austin during the Attitude Era, the biggest drawing era in wrestling history, and was a big movie star.

Given how half assed their push of Bryan was, that Bryan turned into a draw at all was a testament to how over he was.

The medical stuff is what could really get the WWE in hot water if it blows up. Could be a repeat of the steroid stuff in the early 90s steroid trial.

True. I thought it was amusing too that he mentioned asking if HHH had taken the same drugs test as everyone else. Scott Steiner mentioned in an interview doing exactly the same thing, with the same outcome IIRC.

You guys really are overstating the importance of CM Punk to the WWE, he wasn't exactly a massive draw and for him to compare himself to The Rock, Undertaker and John Cena is a joke if you ask me.
During the summer of punk, he was every where 18-35 year olds were. On boards, IN Random team fortress matches, on the sidewalks, on espn. Everywhere people were talkingabout CM Punk. He should have been another Rock/Hogan/Austin. He could have been. But as usual Vince dropped the ball. Just like he did with nexus

I remember Colt sharing some pretty harsh words on his podcast towards Linda McMahon when he received some mail (that he suspected that a random fan signed him up for to troll him) thanking him for his support of her running for senate. Wish I remember which episode it was from, but it kind of went something like "Fuck you and your company for crushing my dream."

Was Colt in WWE? (I haven't watched WWE in ages. First I've heard of him is this podcast). What issues has he had with the McMahons?

This gif is now better. Dying Punk and concussed Del Rio
CM-Punk-laughing-at-Stephanie.gif

lol I just realized hes laughing like hes saying, "I told you guys..."

I'm starting to think the Vince/Austin stuff might have been the best and worse thing to happen to this company. It sparked the most popular era in the companies history, but since then the "Mr. McMahon" and various incarnations of it have been way too involved in the business. The whole meta thing of Vince/HHH/Steph who are IRL in charge of the company are also characters in the storylines and will try and screw the top face over has become tiresome. It really started with nWo too, and the idea of outsiders "invading" another company. I don't want to care about who the GM is. I don't want every match to be because the GM is trying to screw somebody. I don't need any sort of "Authority" figure. Just bring back Jack Tunney dude never said shit.

All the media sites focusing on the wedding headline is stupid. It was the least important part of the story. He didn't even give a shit, just found it amusingly sad.

I'm assuming those people watching are like what the fuck is this shit?

Some gimmicks make me wonder like "Man if these guys ever make it big, it will so obviously be in spite of this, and they will somehow figure out a way to work around the shitty gimmick and still get popular, like Rock and HHH did". I thought about this when Fandango came out on RAW last Monday and I was thinking why in the fuck would anyone think that a flamenco dancing wrestler would ever get anywhere? Nobody wants to watch this shit.

Punk was important to the company. People can quote buy-rates and ratings and all sorts of BS. At the end of the day John Cena does not make a wrestling card.

John Cena and the wacky styling's of the mid card does not make a wrestling card any significant number will buy. It's why Taker and HHH and Lesnar wrestle sporadically. It's why they get Jericho who doesn't have enough time to do TV tapings, to perform on a European tour.

The roster is the thinnest its been in decades.

Who's WWE's number two active face at the moment?

The answer is Dean Ambrose.

Who's number three and four? It's Ziggler and Ryback. Which is hilarious.

I would love to be a fly on the wall at the McMahon thanksgiving dinner this year. It's probably awkward enough since Shane walked or on the family business, but today... Oh my.

The real story here is the WWE's terrible medical department that misdiagnoses, and bends and twists the rules and results to suit the company's wants, as well as encourages guys to work hurt.

Trust TMZ to see the word "wedding" and leap on that footnote as the headline.

So much blood is already on the McMahon's hands I don't think this news will register to them.

I don't think it is. It's just incredibly poor business practice that you wouldn't expect from a large corporation.

Makes the WWE look worse than their attempts to control image. All that "work" undone.

Same exact thing would have happened to Daniel Bryan if he didn't have such a stupidly infectious mainstream chant that could blow up at mainstream sporting events so much that even idiots who don't watch wrestling would get caught up in the furor and participate along with it.

Once they realized it, head office did absolutely everything in their power to attach that chant to everyone and their uncle not named Daniel Bryan so it could be known as a WWE chant and not just a D.Brine chant that he could use as leverage to disrupt their precious fucking status quo. Lucky for them the dude's pretty much the nicest guy in the world who will go along with just about anything he's told.

Which anyone could have told her. When your name is attached to pro wrestling, you're not getting a high profile gig like that.

.....and before anyone brings up Jesse Ventura, that doesn't count as Minnesota is a bunch of weirdos. :p
:(

And of course any time Bryan got real mainstream attention, they did a WCW on it and ignored it, since it wasn't something they made or did.
Bryan had a personal connection to both the Superbowl and World Series winning teams of 2014, how many people can say that?

No, Larry The Cable Guy is the ticket back to the mainstream.

listening to it now, most is stuff that wont shock anyone. Vince completely out of touch, Cena is the poster boy, etc. Its a shame but its what it is and it clearly wont change

it always feels like guys like Punk or Bryan (or Eddie going back, Benoit, etc) are just flavor of the month to shut up the internet before they go back to the usual jacked up guys. Granted Punk lasted longer than most, but still, appart from the pipebomb initial angle, the rest never really felt like he was a top dog, even if he was champ for god knows how long

Shit I wouldn't put it past them to only have Bryan still working for the company after his injury because he is married to a Bella twin. Vince has his stupid hardon for the twins and wouldn't want one or both of them to storm off.

Punk and Bryan are both people they merely tolerate/tolerated. neither are part of the inside family.

Bryan has always been of worth to them. It's changed over the years but they did hire him back a month after firing him. Vince has always liked the "good hand" who will make his stars look great. It just turned out Bryan was much bigger than that role, even if WWE wanted him at that "just below the main event" level at most.

Remember they have basically no stars right now. They absolutely need Bryan as soon as he is cleared.

That's common for team doctors. They're often hired for their pliability.

If I were a WWE wrestler, I'd trust the company doctors to apply bandages and give stitches and that's about it. Anything beyond that pertaining to my health, I would go elsewhere.

Punk really touched on how damaging wrestling can be for the talent. And it seems the WWE is doing little, if anything, to address the damage caused by concussions. More and more we're seeing that repeated brain trauma has a long-term effect on a person's health.

i coulda swore the twins did quit one time no?

did Punk never do a wrestlemania main event?

Nope. Three years in a row, he had a good case for getting it and WWE didn't give it to him.

I never noticed that... I guess "the summer of Punk" was just that, a summer thing, after wrestlemania. Thats ridiculous lol. oh well

his record at mania isn't great. 3 mitbs, won 2 of those. Grudge matches with mysterio and Orton, lost to both (completely unneeded, Orton didn't need the rub and Mysterio even less), defense against Jericho (past his prime), loss against Taker. 7 matches total, 3 wins, 4 losses, all to guys that were past their prime

I would disagree, but not in the "ROFL HE FUCKIN SUX" way. I *do* think that he should've been paid as much as everyone else the night he wrestled 'Taker though.

maybe not as much as Cena/Rock, but considering how much wwe prop up Taker's WM streak every year definitely as much as HHH/Brock

If Punk didn't leave, we would also probably have had Daniel Bryan wasted on Sheamus for the third Wrestlemania in a row. It's just kind of an accident that Daniel Bryan got his WM main event.
