Gentleman, it's time. It is time for true hero to rise and bear the standard of America.

Ugh. Our country would be fucked with Jill Stein. She's got some decent ideas, but she has about as much knowledge and experience to be potus as Trump. She doesn't understand the nuance required for politics.

If a third party were to rise from the ashes of the GOP, I'd hope it would be the libertarians. I don't agree with lot of their platform, but they at least have a basic understanding on how to run a country.

yeah they know a guy named the President is King or something.

Just had a recent family gathering, and all the surreality and #TrumpFacts one might expect, but if there was anything we all utterly agreed on it was that that guy is a treacherous and sniveling fucking asshole.

See? There's always common ground to be found.

Please don't fully collapse until the election happens

I'd like someone, anyone, to challenge Democrats on interventionist foreign policy. Trump vs Hillary would be a pandering fest to who loves America more. Probably some good jabs from Hillary against Trump's horrible ideas, but there would still be way too much of the norm.

That's cool. I can respect that. I mean, I'm probably more hawkish than a lot of you, even though I'm not a super hawk or anything like that. That's a discussion we can have.

I love these takes. The Democratic Party doesn't have a monopoly on American foreign policy. Because that's what you're referring to by interventionist- American foreign policy. There will never be a time when you would be able to consider American foreign policy to be isolationist. It will never happen regardless of who is in the WH.

Yep. Several members of my fam where and are repubs, but all said the party is a fucking joke and would never vote for Trump.

The joke is that Trump will drop out to save his ego but seriously - what happens if the Republicans literally have no nominee? Does it delay the election or anything? Or is it just Democrat nominee vs independents and 3rd party?

The election wouldn't be delayed. There is nothing anywhere that states the Republican party is required to have a nominee in the general election. There are multiple other candidates apart from Clinton, they're just unlikely to get enough votes to win.

It's a shame really - if he had reigned in his worst excesses, ran on a platform where his economic policies reflect his rhetoric, steered clear of abortion and continued his line on strong immigration reform without the more incendiary comments he'd be a shoe in (in addition to being the most progressive Republican in living memory).

So basically, if he'd been an entirely different person and candidate. Lol.

Johnson is polling higher than Stein and his party is the one most aligned with the GOP conceptually. Libertarians would benefit.
He seems to best represent an alternative option anyway.

Jill Stein seems to just represent the crazy alternative on the left side, the kind that would probably go to war over GMOs and Vaccines.

Mainstream America is never going to vote for someone who doesn't say they love America.

Sure, Republicans are way worse in this regard.

If not for moral reason, I'd like this to be a difference in majority politics before it becomes cost prohibitive for the United States to have this world role. Inevitably as the US's GDP footprint shrinks in global percentage it won't be possible to continue.

How bad are we talking? Because "people" generally realize that it's pretty bad even without any insider knowledge.

From how this is sounding, nobody's trying to rein him in anymore, they're just cutting their losses and allowing him to drive voters away

For the last 8 months we thought damage control was at least being done. With a few months left, it's clearly no longer the case. RIP

And then tomorrow, Julian Assange will release something super-damaging to Hillary's campaign, the media will play it up to boost ratings and make the race tight again, and we'll be right back to square one.

He's been alive for more than 70 years, and he's stood for none of those things. Ever. He just says he is.

I've been casting about for potential Manafort replacements, and I think you just picked a winner. Trump's Final Form would naturally have to be managed by Ivanka.

Would be a disaster. She's not a political operative and she has no interest to do so.

This campaign can't go down in flames for another month or two. At that point, any new nominee won't have enough time to play catch up.

why would any decent human being with half a brain want to work as Trump's campaign staff in the first place?

I guess it's better than being homeless.

Maybe now we can finally see a third party take over.

You say it like it would be good for it to be Stein or Johnson??? Who are both messy people so why is that good??? Of all the times to want 3rd party, you pick when two loons who are less qualified than past 3rd parties are in the race?

Has ghostbusters tought you nothing?

Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say.

It won't ever be. And if at some point the US is no longer capable, then it would be a scenario where the country as we know it would not exist.

What happens if Trump drops out? Do they put another candidate up? Has this ever happened before?

If he quits it'll be the end of him. But if he stays in the race and lose, he can then claim the election's rigged.

If there ever was a time to drop out it would've been before the nomination. He won't drop out now.
