CNBC and NBC reporters have sources saying Trump campaign staff in disarray

How the fuck did was he even able to get nominated through the primaries? He beats out 16 other establishment contender, with the exception of Ben Carson. Was it the populist faction of the GOP that won out, or was it the fact that none of the other candidates could match Trump in playing the dozens?
It's 8 years of blaming obama saying they are going to stop his radical agenda

I have a hard time believing getting into a public feud with Muslims is going to be the thing that drives Trump's supporters away. Trump's been coasting this entire time on the fact that nobody following him hears much of his words, just his tone. I'd really need to see hard numbers to believe that a scandal had finally stuck to him.

I guess I'm just not sure what could have changed about Trump's campaign that hasn't been obvious from day one - he's been throwing red meat to the angry core, in the exact way that every competent political operative knew was going to lose the Republicans the election since December 2012. If anything the story to me is still that he's stayed close enough that any random Hillary scandal can depress her base enough that he comes out ahead, or respectably* close.

* I typed that word while holding my nose.

The problem is his current support peaks at about 40-42% depending on the poll. That's not enough to win an election. Winning by 8 or 9 points is not 'respectable' by modern political standards.

I mean....it's coming from reality? He's been the nominee for 12 days. In that time he's:

1) Managed to attack a 4 Star General
2) Managed to attack a Muslim American solider who gave his life for this country.
3) Managed to attack a Gold Star Family, specifically the mother of a dead solider.
4) Managed to say that women who are sexually harassed should get a new career.
5) Managed to refuse to support the Republican Speaker of the House and McCain.
6) Managed to insult a baby.
7) Called Hillary the devil.
8) Released fundraising numbers that were abysmal, proving (again) that he has no resources to run the campaign.
9) Managed to say the entire election system is rigged if he loses.
10) Managed to anger the VFW and 26 Gold Star Families.
11) Said today that he hopes the economy crashes soon so that Obama will get blamed for it and it will help him win.
12) His campaign is literally falling apart around him.
13) Said that Pennsylvania (a state he has to win) looked like a war zone.
14) Took a Purple Heart from a Veteran and said "I always wanted one of these. And this was way easier"

And like most of that was today!
Don't forget Colorado and how he insulted the Fire Marshall.

It's because the Republican party has become that awful. They created the voters that choose Trump with their rhetoric. They are angry and living in fear of Muslims, Mexicans, and other minorities and want the good old days back.

Lolllll I somehow missed that last one. So hilarious coming from a draft dodger but he probably wasn't even aware he should have been embarassed

It's 8 years of blaming obama saying they are going to stop his radical agenda

But didn't they stymie him at every turn? What were they supposed to do, straight up lynch him?

Short of calling Obama the "n" word, they've pretty much demeaned him in every conceivable way possible, from using dog whistle terminology against him to not cooperating him in terms of crafting legislation. Their refusal to put Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland is but one example.

“Republicans now say Mr. Trump’s obstinacy in addressing perhaps the gravest crisis of his campaign may trigger drastic defections within the party, and Republican lawmakers and strategists have begun to entertain abandoning him en masse.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/03/us/politics/donald-trump-gop.html

It's really happening isn't it?

Here lies
Donald Trump's campaign
2016-2016
"The only double down that should have crossed his lips was from KFC."

(Well, not yet at least, but I'm not convinced that he'll actually make it to November.)

It's a shame really - if he had reigned in his worst excesses, ran on a platform where his economic policies reflect his rhetoric, steered clear of abortion and continued his line on strong immigration reform without the more incendiary comments he'd be a shoe in (in addition to being the most progressive Republican in living memory).

.....The RNC's platform is the most regressive in recent memory. Drumpf is on record saying he wants his VP to do everything domestically and handle foreign affairs too. Pence, his VP, is very far right-wing. For Drumpf this was never about policy. He's literally never discussed it. He's more or less a puppet candidate that the GOP is stuck with. A puppet candidate who represents their platform and their very far right-wing base. And they hate that he reveals them for what they are.

I mean, hell, they literally support torture of LGBT americans. They're regressing, not progressing. They're doubling down. They haven't learned a thing from their defeats to Obama or from his record approval ratings. Or etc. etc.

It's because the Republican party has become that awful. They created the voters that choose Trump with their rhetoric. They are angry and living in fear of Muslims, Mexicans, and other minorities and want the good old days back.

The good ole' days never existed. Do they not realize that Leave it to Beaver was a television sitcom and not some historical documentary?

I'm curious how Trump's empire will be after this. Running for office has exposed his bullshit facade infront of everyone in the nation.

Math, while Trump had the most votes... he had the most votes out of 16 competitors. If egos were tempered and people dropped out for the greater good, Trump may not have had the majority of votes or the party would have been able to more quietly screw him over. .

Unfortunately everyone one of those 16 candidates either thought they were the chosen one to over throw Emperor Obama or saw some profit to staying in the race for as long as possible (book sales, improving brand image, getting that VP nod, etc.)

It was a game of chicken and no one blinked in time.

I'm guessing you meant to type losing by 8 or 9 points? If that's % of the popular vote, he won't lose by that much because Johnson is going to take a chunk of that vote as well.

Since typing my original post I've read that NYT article, if downticket republicans are going to start distancing themselves from the guy to save their skins, that's going to matter.

We are here now and the Democrats have not even unleashed the attack ad artillery yet.

Anyone with a platform that attacks Trump compels him to reply.

From NBC's Katy Tur:

Top republican: @Reince is 'apoplectic' over Trump's refusal to back Ryan. He called several Trump staffers to express his displeasure.

More from same source: The next 24 to 72 hours are crucial. There is serious talk about key Republicans coming out hard against Trump.

I mean did you see his numbers take a nose dive for his racist bullshit against a judge? The only thing that saved his numbers from that were servergate, and the RNC. He didn't just attack a muslim family, but a gold star family. I can guarantee you his numbers are going to take a hit from this, and the other bullshit this week. Wait until the new polls come out reflecting this week. I bet you that bump stays, and possibly even increases instead of going down.

Hate to say it, but he'll get offered so much money to return to the Apprentice he won't say no.

Also in Columbus he insulted the Fire Marshall as well. I thought the Russians was also within the last 12 days as well.

Dont forget he has some connections to the Russians and asked them to hack Hillary. That will be brought up during the debates. If he even gets to that point. It might just be Clinton.

If the GOP does get a major drubbing this November, is there any chance of a more saner faction rising from the ashes? A movement akin the Eisenhower days? I come from a family of Eisenhower republicans, and all of them have bolted from the party after Bush Jr.. My first time voting was in 1992, and I voted democrat, not because I was a fan of Bill Clinton, but because of Pat Buchanan. His blustery rhetoric was very much in line with what I saw at the RNC a couple weeks back.

He called McCain a wimp for being a POW and was still somehow standing on stage for the Republican nomination. You'll have to forgive me if it seems like they don't stand for anything in particular anymore. I guess the one difference is that swing voters weren't paying attention yet when he said that.

But still, he's been saying reprehensible things since day one, and all it's done is underline his belief that there's no such thing as too much attention, negative or otherwise.

Yup. That shit about banning Muslims and building a wall fucked him, fam.

Personally I dont believe he ever wanted to win. I think he exoected to lose in the primaries and get some good deals out of it. Now he gotta figure his wqy out of the presidency.

To each their own. I'm a proud supporter (and donator) to Hillary, and both sides are definitely not the same in this election. One will give us (at worst) an Obama third term; the other might very well give us World War III.

Pretty much. I laugh at the mere suggestion that both sides are somehow equally bad in this upcoming election. The choice presented before us is pretty damn obvious.

If I remember correctly it was even worse than that. He straight up attacked McCain's Patriotism saying he was an embarrassment as a soldier and wasn't a hero, but rather a loser. It's bad enough to criticize the guy for being a POW, but to say someone like John McCain is a loser and a embarrassment to the military is some next-level scumbagery.

" Mailing it in " ? What does it mean ?

No more passionate behind-the-scenes arguments over strategy, no more attempts at message control, no more battles with Trump's dumbass sons, very little debate over candidate access for interviews, etc. Basically he's going to let Trump be Trump and stop trying to clean up after him.

I've long thought that Manafort will be fired before October. Trump will make one of his sons his campaign manager, arguing that he was doing better against Hillary before Manafort began meddling. In truth, Trump was doing better in the polls during the lead up to the RNC, during which Hillary had her worst weeks (FBI/email conclusion).

Manafort probably spent hours trying to convince Trump to issue an apology or semi-apology over the Khan situation before saying "fuck it I'm done." Trump's erratic behavior today was likely sparked in part by the internal battles going on. Manafort may be a pos who has worked for dictators but he's not stupid. He knows how to run a campaign. Trump isn't letting him do his job, and the campaign has seemingly devolved back to the chaos of the Corey Lewandowski months. That should tell Manafort and everyone else that the problem isn't management, it's the candidate.

I had to really lay it out for my mom who's voting for R no matter what. I told her the truth. If Trump was the democratic nominee and someone like Jeb Bush was the Republican nominee, I would vote for the Republican candidate.

This shit isn't about D vs R for me anymore. It's reached "fit vs unfit and dangerous". Trump is the least deserving and most dangerous candidate of my lifetime and I'm 42.

Ya that really is sickening. Donald would give up every single person he ever met instead of spending 5 minutes as a POW. What a piece of shit.

Went to foxnews to check out their take on this whole thing and it seems like they have uh... different priorities for their headlines. No wonder a good chunk of the country thinks it's the democrats who are a mess

edit: Whoops. You have it at #6.

Don't forget Colorado and how he insulted the Fire Marshall.

And a Fire Marshal in Virginia a few days later.

He also lied about the NFL sending him a letter complaining about the debate schedule and said that wind mills will "kill all your birds".
