At best, he chose to serve his private political view over his duty to his country.

At worse...isn't he aiding and abetting foreign espionage?
Is attempting to hide the connections between Trump and Russian cyber terrorists treason?

Wow. I want to say I'm surprised but damn. This election year is one for the history books. Many years from now kids will learn about this year and wonder wtf was wrong with the USA.

No. Comey not commenting on Russian actions on the election is actually an example of him doing his job properly. Unless there's a smoking gun, the FBI isn't supposed to say a damned thing.

No, there is nothing wrong with not informing the American public of the details of an uncertain and ongoing investigation. This is standard operating procedure. This is about Comey selectively choosing which investigative details to leak, a choice which happens to benefit one political party over the other. That is a big whoopsie for the head of the FBI who is not supposed to be driven by party politics.

edit: beaten

No, he was still doing his job investigating it and it's normal for stuff like this to not be public while it's still under investigation. The only thing he violated by not publicly announcing it while at the same time announcing the email stuff is the hatch act.

People jump to treason waaaaay too quickly in these situations.

Edit: Double beat.

It was obvious he jumped the gun for his own reasons.

Says this but just this last Friday he throws Hillary under the bus. Why does this man still have his job is a serious question I have.

The direct connection isn't even hidden, it's Paul Manafort. He got outted as still working on Russias dime (technically their puppet party in Ukraine) when he moved back to the US.

There was no way he wasn't under investigation. But no one said a word.

Now release the letter about the Russian investigation and we're even.
Definitely not. It would be just as bad for Comey to release details of the Trump investigation as it is for him to release details of the Clinton campaign. This goes beyond politics and elections, and speaks to the core of what a functional democracy is. Two wrongs in this scenario would be a lot worse than one.

And really, Clinton didn't get hurt that much by this mess, so it's enough to crucify Comey after the election.

Clinton sure does hate the Russians.
A single anonymous FBI source speaks less to me than shitloads of emails and video showing the Clinton machine in action.

I'll hold out for more FBI sources to corroborate on this one.

the source we have is not the CNBC source

edit: So that's two independent sources leaking the same info. Comey is done

Him getting fired in the middle of the email investigation is a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. Best to let this go till he's done with his investigation, and then throw him aside when he finds that there's nothing.

The same reason he didn't lose his job after standing up to the bush white house over domestic surveillance . His reputation in DC and the Bureau was amazing and almost mythical. Wonder what it is about Hillary that would make him throw it away.

So does this mean Harry Reid wasn't full of shit about the FBI knowing of some Russia/Trump connections?

Was probably a safe gambit. It was pretty obvious.the connections were there. So he could easily assume the intelligence and law enforcement aspects of the government knew.

I've been thinking what would make this disclosure inappropriate. Russia is a foreign state, not a political campaign. Disclosing this shouldn't look bad on Trump, unless...

Like, I really don't think Comey has some kind of personal or political vendetta against Hillary Clinton or anything like that. I suspect he was probably worried about further political attack from the right if/once it was revealed that he hadn't informed the American public about Huma's emails until after the election, despite this being standard operating procedure. Basically, I suspect this is probably more a case of cowardly appeasement of an increasingly lunatic GOP ( a la his press conference) than it is active sabotage of the Democratic party. But the effect of course is still indistinguishable from active sabotage and dude is unfit for his job because of it.

Well shit.
If these emails don't produce fruit and don't do so fast then Comey is going to get railed.

Yeah, there has to be something. Otherwise he's toast. I mean, he's got to know that, right?

So far, Wikileaks has once again upstaged the FBI with today's news about Brazile.

Yep.

"Waaah But the Big Mean Republicans might yell at me if I do my job!!!" Is not in anyway an excuse to not do your job or break protocol.

Send Comey to the arena.

I agree. I also think at that point you need to step down if you can't deal with the headache of an increasingly militant faction of an unreasonable minority party.

"The Democrat's don't whine" isn't reason for GOP appeasment that goes against decades of historical precedent.
