Bernie is the wrong choice for this. Could've been Murray, or hell, even Franken. People who know at least a few things about policy.
Bernie is gonna flail. He's not a details person.
How is Bernie going to debate Graham? By agreeing that Obamacare sucks and that it should be repealed? Even if he doesn't want to go there, you know the Republicans are going to play that angle.
Bernie isn't an expert on healthcare now?
What?
The point of a debate like this should be to point black attack Graham/Cassidy's plan.
Instead it's going to turn into Bernie defending single payer.

Sometimes you need a guy who pounds the podium with his fist.
Of course I would like to see Warren instead. If you want more smarts.
Debate single payer when we don't run the risk of having the ACA being boned in a week. This should be dems attacking GC and nothing more.
Put up or shut up time for Bernie.
He'll make a good attack dog while Klobuchar handles the details, I think.
Bernie isn't an expert on healthcare now?
What?
Bernie didn't do well debating Ted Cruz months ago over the same topic. Why would he be better now?
None of these people debating on the stage are. They're politicians.

There's a reason Graham and Cassidy agreed to this. They know their best chance to sway public opinion is to debate Bernie and turn it into a debate about their plan vs. single payer and try to set the narrative.
Cassidy is actually a M.D. I'm sure he will let everyone know that as often as possible.
*EDIT*
The issue i have with people saying "Its bad timing" is that its many of the same people who would then say "we just got done with the battle repealing the ACA and now you want to introduce this??" It is never the right time to ever fight for things that are important on a macro level. That's not how i believe big changes occur. We can apply that hypothetical to any big legislative reform push that has ever happend in America and then say "its not the time" to advocate for this or that....there has to be a right time.
That's better than just being a politician as far as speaking form a place of authority, but even that doesn't really make someone an expert in healthcare.
Probably will be pretty harmless. If anything it might encourage people to go back to the whole bipartisan fix thing. I don't think Graham is a particularly good salesman.
And Graham apparently said in an interview that their goal is to position their bill as an alternative to Bernie-care. If Bernie falls for that tactic and ends up debating the merits of single-payer I will never forgive him. If he is that stupid he needs to quit politics and retire.
Bernie? Really? Ugh. This is a terrible choice for the democrats. He struggles to stay on topic.
It makes sense considering he spearheaded the democrats medicare-for-all initiative. I assume this debate will be about the ideal future of healthcare going forward rather than only about the graham-cassidy bill.
What planet is this?
Yup. He's going to put Bernie on the defense against his plan when this entire thing should be Dems shitting on the GC bill in comparison to the ACA. That's what we're fighting for right now. Not single payer.

Planet reality. What one have you been living on?
Lol. You clinton people are so desperate to drag his name through the mud.

I am shocked to hear that much of PoliGAF is unhappy about something Bernie Sanders is doing. Shocked, I tell you.
lol you Bernie people are desperate to drag her name through the mud. (shit posting is so easy!!!!!)
This isn't about dragging anyone's name through the mud. This is about saving the ACA next week and attacking the GC bill for how awful it is. There's a time and place to discuss the merits of single payer in an open debate. That's not next Monday. If Bernie strays or goes on the defensive ... it's a net loss.
Should have been Bernie and Gillibrand. Gillibrand would have articulated both the critiques of the GOP bill and the defense of Bernie's bill best.
