COD 4 Beta Thread

Where did you hear this? Any links?

I was searching this in the previous pages and I read nothing of the sort.

I hope it isn't true. :(

Even if I dislike Overgrown, it is still good to play once in awhile.

Y-Axis? Don't you mean Z-Axis? There's plenty of upper floors. Favorite camping spots for noobs, and my favorite place to sneak up on them and stab them all.

You want more Z-Axis fighting? Like a zero G combat arena or something?

Doesn't Overgrown have a bunch of rooftops you can climb on top of?

There's an attic and a bunch of second floors, but the direction of the windows make it pointless to the overall play style of the map.

It's rare to point upwards in Overgrown. Vacant is missing the "Y-axis", but it makes up for it with excellent short-mid range fighting.

I feel so deflated now I hit the level cap :(

Fun game though, seriously considering getting the retail version, they really put some decent thought in to multiplayer.

I point upwards all the time to kill idiots next to windows. Or idiots trying to prone on top of roofs.

I seriously dont get Overgrown hate

Playing for the levels? Try playing for the challenges. Unlock some stuff. Once you're done that go for the K/D record.
People are ridiculous with their 20K kills

Summed up in one point:

- Lower action rate compared to the others. Stuff is always happening in Crash and Vacant. It is not uncommon to be wandering looking for people for nearly an entire minute on Overgrown. It is also a lot more time consuming to flank in Overgrown.

I don't hate it, but given the choice, I gladly pass on it.

Also, I can only recall two three windows where foolish people would stick around. Two of them are in "low action" points of the map too.

I suck too much for the challenges, most are just happy accidents so far :lol

But I'm not playing -for- the levels, I just think they've integrated them really well, it was fun tinkering with my build after level ups to see what I could do. Rewards for sucking are awesome :3

Lower action rate compared to the others.

Thats just it its perfect. I prefer that to the cramped quaters of the other two where if you run around you die because its too small for 12 people.

On the other two you have to stand around and camp instead. Its soo many times that ive seen an idiot camp in the midle of vacant where the path is blocked with furniture. ugg.

You cant camp in Overgrown if you want to win. Thats why i love it.

It is not true.

All three of the Beta maps (Crash, Overgrown, and Vacant) are in the retail game. I'm looking at the level-select screen in the Retail build right now.

Of course; if you have read this somewhere, say so, so that they can be corrected. =)

Awesome I love Overgrown sooo much

Missing the Y-Axis? So you can only run in a straight line? :lol

What's the NDA status on the beta? I didn't see anything in the email I received, or the page I signed up on, or when I logged in, or did I just miss it somewhere?

Just wondering what I can talk about

There is no NDA...

It's widely available, man. I can't believe you thought there'd be an NDA attached.

*eyes rolling*

beta = pre-release stress test

beta != beta, depreciated word

anyway, it's a ton of fun, and I hate tactical shooters, so that's impressive

least favorite mode is probably the cs bomb ripoff, I was bummed they didn't come up with some unique game modes

2v2-4v4 matches with friends have been the most fun so far

there has been a little talk about the beta in this 114 page thread. but just a little.

I would be really mad if overgrown didn't make the final game. Believe it or not, I feel like Overgrown is the easiest map not to get camped on. They made it so that there are good routes to use to avoid detection.

Do we by any chance get to keep what we've earned from the Beta to the final game, or does everyone start back at 0? It doesn't matter that much, but it'd be cool.

Nope, everyone starts over. More fun that way :)

Could someone please tell me if the ranks have been increased since they went to 16? I scrolled through the last 5 pages or so and didn't see anyone mention it, so I'm guessing no?

no indeed

Now I've spent 10 hours with this damn game. It's fucking awesome so far, I'm just waiting for them to raise the level cap. Hopefully I'll reach a 1.00 kill/death ratio too soon :)

Overgrown is a great map, a nice change of pace from the other two. In fact all three maps are really well done.

The beta is fantastic when you get a good group going. Tonight I hoped on for a quick match or two and ended up playing for three hours. We decided to play with only pistols, grenades, and knives. Then go all out during the last minute. Fun stuff, pistols only really opened up the game.

My fav map as well, only problem i have with the game is spawn points.

Overgrown can be a really good map when the firefights come into the chokepoint around the stone bridge. The other side of the map really doesn't get used much at all though and it's an annoying map for plain death match, it could use some balancing but I don't want them to get rid of it

I managed to get a a 20 kill streak using the turret in the attic just smashing the opposition who kept respawning in the barn and failing to take me out for ages. :lol

I think I finished 22-2 that time. :D

It'd be nice to have some sort of medic perk. It feels kind of a waste to be sitting there in Last Stand with nobody to shoot while your team mates run past

My skills always improve when they should be getting worse. Especially late at night when I'm tired. Like just now

BTW, GAF'ers, start adding me to your friend lists. Gamertag is in my profile

What are you guy's longest streaks?

17 here.

Just a question, when you get that kind of score are you moving around at all? I find it nearly impossible not to be shot in the back in that crash map and the one inside a large building since the game is filled with people who're just running around.

The only way you can get high streaks is to move about or you'll be found and knifed; keep on the run, duck into rooms and take out stupid fools who think its a good idea to camp in the most obvious spots!

I liked the multiplayer, after COD3 I was reminded that I pretty much suck at twitch shooters these days, especially when thrown to the wolves via a ranked multiplayer match. I didn't have much hope for CoD4 because:
1) I had only recently joined the beta
2) hadn't done very well in CoD3

The learning curve/experience is nearly vertical, like most twitch shooters. But, the levelling system and stuff to do via challenges is really great. There really is incentive to play and continue playing and even if you suck you still feel like you're improving getting better at the game.
I still would have been buying CoD4 for the single player aspect (I've bought all the numbered COD games thus far) but I'm actually looking forward to the multiplayer part too this time which is a nice change.

When I hit "Find Game" it says "Downloading game settings". What is this? And why does it take so long?
One would hope that's where the "Beta" comes in, 'cause it that sucks the big cock my friend.... A really big cock (you could be stuck for like 20 minutes from my experience).
