COD 4 Beta Thread

Still haven't received a token. This is absurd.

Also, why 10,000 this time? The first wave was 10k, then 20k, and now back to 10k?
Makes so much sense.

I've come across a couple invisible walls. Wish I could save short clips to show where. Unloaded two clips in someones head at one of them and nothing hit.

Wow, this game is instantly my favorite military shooter ever.

Tons of fun. Weapons feel great, and the classes distinct.

Haven't played enough to get a feel for the balance yet.

Graphics are ridiculously good at 60fps. IW are gods.

I killed you with my helicopter BOOM! I loooooooove this game.

So if we didn't get a token earlier today does that mean nothing until Tuesday? Or are they being sent out over the weekend too...

:(

can someone confirm that this game rewards you with improved stats and weapons the longer you play? thus breaking the game instead of having a level playing field?

It means you are condemned to hell to spend for eternity.

:lol

Took me a few rounds to get the hang of things, but this is definitely incredibly good. I'll prolly skip out on Halo 3 for this (I'll pick it up later...not a huge Halo fan).

Yes, but trust me, the whole rewards system doesn't break the game, at all.

It kind of does but just slightly. Still fun though.

what i am worried about is that as the game gets older it will become more and more broken. FPS shooters should be about skill not MMO style stats.

I agree, which is why I'll mainly play hardcore mode (one shot kills, no hud, no perks) and smaller tactical gametypes (small TDM and objective-based MP modes).

how does it not?

The rewards are only things that give you slight advantages. Sure, an ACOG scope is nice, and may make things a bit easier, but ironsights work nearly as well. The point is, the rewards aren't end-all-OMFGPWNTLOLOL weapons, but more like tweaks that make the player slightly better. It is entirely possible for a scrub to beat somebody who is decked out in loads of gear. It's just a matter of strategy and planning.

But yeah, I can see what you're getting at and, in retrospect, you are kind of right.

Look back through this thread, you'll see that just about every weapon has been called overpowered. Does this mean every weapon is overpowered and needs to be nerfed? No, it just means people can do really well with any weapon. The unlocks aren't necessarily more powerful, they're just different.

Take the M16, for example. Its the starting weapon of the default assault class - if you just spam the A button to get into a game its what you'll have. Its extremely accurate and powerful, goes through walls pretty dang well, and has a frickin' grenade launcher mounted under it. You can (and lots of guys in the office) use it until you hit max level and not need to change a thing.

Its all about your playstyle and weapon preference, not leveling up and stomping on new players just because you've got better gear. We reward skill, not time invested.

I understand what you are saying but dont you think its unfair to have some players have access to weapons that other players cannot take advantage of?

in a game like this a "slight" advantage can mean the difference between life and death and it may cause frustration.

ACOG scope sucks. Anyone else agree? I do so much worse with the attachment than the red laser

well, when you use the ACOG you gotta play differently, I usually put it on M16 and then try to stay in the back of my teammates, or just fight from a long range.

You seem to rank up REALLY quickly. So it's not a big deal. I've played maybe 2 hours worth and ranked up 6 times. It really happens fast.

EDIT - Also I have a question for DKo5. I'm not sure if you know, or even if your permitted to say, but can you give hints on what kind of computer is needed to run the PC version at the same graphical fidelity of the 360 version and have it hold 60fps? I'm loving this but I hate using a controller. Would I be set with...oh say...HYPOTHETICALLY;), a amd 64x2 6000+, 2gb Ram, and x1900xt 512mb? I totally understand if you don't know or can't answer, but I just thought I'd throw the question out there.

The beta doesn't give much of an opportunity for it right now, but in the full game when you've got a much larger player pool (and skill + rank level disparity) you'll be matched with people of similar skill and rank. As a level 1 noob you won't get matched up with a max level pro gamer.

Never heard about that until now. I'm liking the sound of it.

Its not like that... If you suck coming into it you will suck at higher levels, if youre good coming into it, you wont have a problem reaching the higher levels. Its not a problem man.

Sorry man, we're still working on our hardware requirements. I'd love if I could tell you, but we're still nailing those details down.

I was hoping to get in at least tonight so I could get in some gaming over the labor day weekend. Ah well. I'm not waiting anymore. Tired of waiting.

Hey DK05 when do we get a chance to get Hardcore mode? I'm dying for some actual tactical gameplay.

Yeah, not my style of play, haha. I go out and hunt.

About the ranking thing, they could make it so that you play against other people similar to your rank like Halo. Then it wouldn't be unfair. Instead, the game would just be unlocking certain features of the game as you get better and better.

I'd rather argue about the chopper/aircraft thing as being more unfair. A good player can go to town with that shit and rack up even more kills. It's so easy to get a very high kill/low death ratio thanks to those powerups

What time is the dream team assembling tonight? pocketfudge needs to stop playing Blue Dragon and jump on tonight :P

Good god, this game is amazing.

That is all.
No joke. I spent hours reaching level 11 and unlocking the little objectives. Can't wait to see what single player holds if the multiplayer is this good.

This is so fucking retarded! I been waiting by this stupid computer for days on end. Just send out the fucking tokens to everyone! Forget this wave bullshit. Now I'm seriously annoyed because I'm going on vacation tomorrow and I know you will send it while I'm gone and end the beta the day I get back. Screw you guys man.

Yeah, played awhile with rayne. I'm not seeing the OMGAH-awesomeness of it; but it's a neat little game.

While I think the gunplay is better in R6V, I think the big draw to this game for me is the level up and unlockable system. I constantly feel like I'm working toward something while I'm playing, and I'm rewarded for it through weapon attachments and other bonuses. That stuff already has me hooked, and not even half of the features are available.

On the middle eastern war torn street level, I feel like I'm playing a real-time version of that first MGS4 trailer. The graphics are great but equally awesome are the animations.

That's exactly how I felt. The unlockable and "rpg" elements are darn cool, as well as the kill streak perks. However, beyond that, the actual gameplay wasn't OMGAH-levels of FAPage. :lol
