Didn't Lane Kiffin tell kids that USC was probably not gonna be sanctioned? Urban Meyer can't possibly know what the NCAA is going to do. The NCAA probably doesn't even know yet.

Your forgetting one piece of crucial information.
Urban can call on Tebow to get any information he needs from his father.

Just wanted to say LOL @ Todd Graham and Pitt. Karma is a bitch. Ironic the same backdoor, backstabbing maneuvering they did to jump the Big East to the ACC, their football coach did to them. Good times. They'll be fighting hoping to make 12th place finishes in the ACC.

Colorado State paid $250,000 for their coach search?

Wow. Just wow.

Our long national nightmare is over.

Craig James on leave from ESPN to weigh Senate run

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- College football analyst Craig James has been granted time away from ESPN while he considers running for the U.S. Senate in Texas, ESPN said Friday.

James requested that he not work his scheduled bowl game on Tuesday so he can concentrate on his decision, ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz told The Associated Press. The news fuels speculation that he is close to entering the Republican primary already crowded with candidates who have spent months raising money and gathering endorsements. James would be running for the 2012 Senate seat being vacated by retiring Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.

I am now intent on trying to figure out the best way to troll him at a campaign event.

Via Iowa State's official Twitter account:

Christ. I mean, I like Paul Rhoads and all, but 10 years? There better be some exit clauses after 5.

Why? Dan McCarney would still be there if the administration did not push him out

The man is from the area, if he wants to retire as coach of ISU I don't think many in Ames will have a problem as long as he keeps us mediocre-decent

I am thrilled at this decision, he is a great guy and really makes people feel like its more than just a job

Here is the official PR

Rhoads Agrees to New 10-Year Contract
AMES, Iowa - Iowa State football Coach Paul Rhoads has repeatedly said that he is proud to be a Cyclone and Friday he added an exclamation point to that sentence by agreeing to a 10-year contract.

"To say that I'm appreciative and humbled is a huge understatement," Rhoads said. "So many people have contributed to what has been achieved in our program the first three years. I want to thank President Geoffroy and Jamie Pollard, who personally met with me to begin contract talks after the Kansas game in early November. The support of everyone in Cyclone Nation has been fantastic. It's great to be a Cyclone."

Rhoads is taking his 2011 team to the Pinstripe Bowl in New York's Yankee Stadium later this month, the school's second bowl appearance in three years. During his tenure, Rhoads has quickly ignited a fan base, which broke a nearly three-decade old attendance mark this fall. His teams have authored several of the biggest wins in school history, including the nationally televised upset of second-ranked Oklahoma State in overtime.

"Today is a great day for Iowa State University," Pollard said. "Paul Rhoads and Iowa State are a perfect match for one another and we could not be happier that he is going to be our football coach for the long term."

Final terms of the contract will be released at a later date.

I like the guy, and I think he has done well for Iowa State, but I don't think he has really earned a 10 year contract. If he turns into Iowa State's Dan Snyder, then sure, but I dunno, I would think I would wait on that.

That old Pitt coach had a 10 year deal when he was at Tulsa, cfb coach's contracts are like NFL deals, mostly bogus.

Yeah, I am guessing they are doing it so in case he does start getting national attention, he would think twice about going to a Michigan or Florida.

Wow. Just wow.

Coaching Search Committee's sound like the Ultimate in Money Grab.

Maybe you'd need help in searching through the thousands of unknown assistants from smaller schools, or from the High School ranks.

But most of the ones from the top 80 teams in the country, are pretty known. Youtuble, google, phone calls.

But a coach from a top 5 team in the last 5 years....I...no, $250,000 is not needed.

$5k exclusive recruiting packages

$20k coaching searching services

$7.95/mo on exclusive info you can hear here first (Free tidbits: Pitt is Luke Fickell's dream job, and Randy Edsall refers to himself in the third person in interviews)

One time offer only!

Oh my God, I just read somewhere that James was going to be commentating on the Holiday Bowl until he made this decision.

Thanks be to Tebow!

The only thing that can get Cal and Texas fans together, our mutual hatred of Craig James. However, we will continue to be apathetic towards your seething hatred soon afterwards.

I am not going to act delusional, we are Iowa State.

We can only aim so high with our budget and the risk of looking for a new coach could ruin the program. We lucked into him after Chizik bailed.

I do not fool myself in thinking that people are banging down the door to coach at Iowa State lol

Plus if he starts to bomb they will just throw him out and pay the penalty or he will leave and pay us....there is always the chicken exit in college football coaching contracts

Surely we can form some sort of College Football PAC to ensure not only Craig James gets elected, but has a long, prosperous career in the Senate.

Fuck no. I think we can all agree that the best to happen is for James to fail in his bid for the Senate, get denied by the mothership when he wants to go back to ESPN proper, and he ends up on the Longhorn Network. It's a win-win for EVERYBODY.

I agree with this.

Besides, all he'd try to do in government is introduce some "Anti-Leach" legislation anyway

Todd Graham SI

He's not new to this dance. After a 7-6 season at Rice in 2006, the Owls extended Graham's contract through 2012. Graham said this:
"I am very grateful to Rice University for the opportunity to coach this team, and for the commitment the university has made to me and to my staff as we look forward to build on the efforts of our first season."
One day later, Graham left for Tulsa, parlaying the leverage from the Rice raise to get more money from the Golden Hurricane.

I'm sure the ASU players are excited about the new coach. What a weird move too. I suppose you get more sun in Tempe but the programs seem pretty equal.

There are lots of obvious questions in the wake of all this, such as, "Why would Arizona State even want this guy, and can they find him a place that rents weekly?''

lol

Texas fans can't even complain because even THEY don't have the LHN.

Yeah, I was going to say something, but meh.

I was going to make a comparison to Trev Alberts, but he is now the AD of Nebraska-Omaha, and recently cancelled their football program.

"I believe the potential for UNO’s athletic programs is unlimited. "

Alberts cut football and wrestling, the only sport with NCAA championships this decade

ASU isn't new to this either. Didn't they hire Erickson after one season at... I dunno, Idaho or someplace?

Fun note on Graham:

Record 2006-11:
Overall Rec: 49-29 = 0.628
Road Rec: 22-19 = 0.537
Against .500+ D1 Teams: 12-29 = 0.293
Against .500+ BCS Teams: 2-12 = 0.143
Against .500+ Conf Teams: 5-14 = 0.263

I'm trying to do the pick em's now and wow the college football post-season has reached all new lows. First they tried to keep matching TCU and Boise State up so they couldn't beat other schools but this is even worse.

Boise who finished 7th in the BCS standings is going to face a 6-6 ASU team that fired their coach!? What a reward!

and TCU gets LaTech.

Those are ridiculous matchups. I guess you can't have one of the house servants kids marrying into the family.

This problem will be solved through BCS capitalism within 2 years.

No it won't be. The morons, led by Delaney, are going to try to avoid having to address the issue by making the BCS poll only matter in choosing #1 vs. #2. The bowls will be free to negotiate their tie ins with conferences again and choose the teams that play in them.

If Boise State was in BIG USA this year, they'd be in a BCS bowl. And you have to think that a BIG XII TCU would be getting at a better matchup than La Tech on Dec. 21 if they finished with a similar record.

Conversely, West Virginia probably wouldn't be in the Orange Bowl if they were in the Big 12 this year.

Who knows what bowl tie ins will exist next year, was basically my point. This year, you're absolutely right. The Big East has lost some of its already limited national cache, and I don't think they've replaced it with the teams they added. Since there might not be any BCS bowl games, besides 1 v. 2, then who knows where the Big East #1 or #2 team will play? Outside of the BCS bowl, where are they playing this year? The Liberty Bowl? The Belk Bowl? The New Era Pinstripe Bowl? The fucking Papa John's BBVA Compass Bowl?

Woo-hoo!

Next year, and the first year Boise enters - they'll be fine.

After that - who knows?

First game is tomorrow, right? I have my picks done, I just haven't done the confidence points yet.

I'm horrible at the confidence points. So I just randomized most of them, and moved the ones that I figure will be blowouts, up to the high value.

I'm about to go to Bowers stadium to watch the Sam Houston St. vs. Montana game. I thought about making a GAF sign, but decided not to. My sister made an ESPN sign so we'll probably be on tv considering the stadium only holds about 9,000

i thought it was more like 12k? regardless, shit is gonna be a blast, i'm jealous as hell. hopin for a good one. SHSU has been rolling, certainly.. but i've had a gut feeling about UM this year. who knows. playoff football is da best.

i think if we can manage to even slow down SHSU's run game, we'll be in the clear and onto the NC game.

lol

The funnier story is in when Pitt announces their new coach that will be their FOURTH coach in a little over a year.

1) Wannystach
2) Some fuck I don't even know what who got hired and fired in like a week for domestic violence (real reason: they knew they fucked up because he was a nobody)
3) Graham crackers
4) Mike Ditka?

A-C-C! A-C-C!

Does it seem a lot longer than a year to anyone else since Wannstedt was shit-canned?
