UF charges for student tickets. So it sucks to be a Gator fan even when you're a student.

FSU cut me a sweet deal on season tickets this year. They are offering 50% off season tickets to recent graduates (class of 2006-2009) because us recent young alumni don't stand a chance of getting seats in the highly established Alumni section (which requires tons of money donated to the Boosters), they started a Young Alumni section. I paid half price and my seats are in the 4th goddam row.

There's a joke in there about getting what you pay for.

There's several supply and demand jokes. :D

I believe this year the minimum donation to get into the season ticket LOTTERY is $13,000. If you win the lottery, you aren't guaranteed a specific seat. You just move to open areas throughout the season.

Geaux Tigers baby!!

Who do I have to blow to get some decent QB play this season? At least our mascot can eat yours! =/

To be fair, at FSU students do sort of pay for tickets, but not really. All students pay an activities and services fee along with their tuition. The fee is pretty negligible, but since everybody is paying the fee, it generates a lot of money. This money is used to give students "free" access to all athletic events and on-campus events including a slew of concerts, and one of the nation's top student-run cinemas. It's a pretty sweet deal in the end, as long as you're willing to sign up for tickets.

We have that fee too; it went up every year I was there. It was a way for them to raise tuition without raising tuition.

Although we get free access to everything but football, which is OK, I guess...

Like you said, depends on how much you used it

So yeah... OSU had our starting cornerback arrested on Friday (suspended license, he'll play), our starting TE left the team for "personal reasons" yesterday, and our starting middle linebacker tore his ACL at practice. I've gone from nervous to worried. We should still be OK as long as our big 3 players on offense stay healthy, but this is not the way I envisioned this week going.

Either way, Boone Pickens Stadium will be rocking on Saturday, and I will be doing my duty as an alum--being loud as hell and helping the Cowboys beat the Bulldogs! Biggest season opener ever, and maybe the biggest game in OSU history.

GO POKES!

It has continue to baffle me, how ND got the deal where they can play 18 division 2 schools, lose by 100 to USC and 20 to a scrub BCS team, and make it to a BCS bowl game.

If it's because of Tradition...shiiiiit

Which Division 2 schools?

Hyperbole. Look it up.

(Besides, I don't think we have anything to worry about with ND this year: USC is going to kill them as usual, and I honestly can't believe they'll win every other game on their schedule.)

Hyperbole? WHATEVER could you mean?

All the divisions of football now, and after changing names around a few years ago, I think I'm going off of old memory. I mean, you've got FBS and FCS, which is 1AA. Both Division 1. Then you got Div 2 and Div 3.

But it's the NCAA, so of course its a fucked up system.

Holy Cow, 2 Days and 14 Hours!

Maybe he meant 1-AA

He couldn't have because they've never scheduled one like it's the trendy thing to do among the top teams.

Yeah, they get a lot of shit for playing Navy but Navy's actually a decent team that's infinitely better than schools Delaware State, Tennessee-Chatanooga, Wyoming, Florida International, etc.

Yeah, they played a crappy schedule last year, but if you look back at the last ten years and look at something like Sagarin's strength of schedule metric, their schedules are not bad and within the top 25 for strength of schedule.

Geaux Tigers is one of the most annoying things in college football. It's "Go", okay?!

The most annoying thing is the crowd chanting "S-E-C, S-E-C" during a 42-7 blowout of someone like South by Southwest Middle South Dakota Technical College.

Looks like it's time to bust out the JonCrom avatar of awesome trash-staches and mountain values...

Or Layla Kiffin...

Vols fan here. I've got pretty good confidence in Kiffin, but not in Crompton. He's pretty much another Casey Clausen in my eyes. I also dread the 19th. D:

Whoa now. Casey Clausen was a tough SOB, and a pretty decent QB for us. So comparing him to JohnCrom is kinda unfair. I WISH JohnCrom was another Casey Clausen...

Plus, Clausen had frosted tips. What kind of a badass doesn't have frosted tips?

Oh, that OSU. I was getting all excited about Ohio State getting knocked out of the MNC race early. Still, USC should have a decent shot at them.

Yeah, it's pretty much just ND and a few Pac-10 schools now. I'll give 'em credit for that, at least.

That's a good deal for young alumni. I'm guessing the sunny/visitor side, right?

I'm not sure what games I'm goin to this season, but I am buying my tickets off Warchant since there's not scalping allowed there

You guys are going to be PISSED when Notre Dame winds up in a BCS bowl with nine wins. You know it's going to happen. May as well accept your fate now.

Lol, really don't think it's going to be this year for them.

And I hate Notre Dame, they need to man up and get into a conference already.

I really hope Jones and Ingram get to play. I hate some of the retarded NCAA rules.

I dunno. I haven't had a good feeling about our QBs since Martin left. I'm really anxious about our defense, though.

Also, Clausen has the tips, but his face was also in a constant state of constipation.

I'm rooting for Boise State since my livelihood depends at least partially on selling BSU merchandise.:P In any case, I think it is going to be a great game.

You guys might beat us since it's in Provo. I guess I'll know what I can expect sometime Monday night although I won't get to watch it on TV currently due to the stupid DTV/Versus dispute. I certainly can't imagine BYU gets through OU and FSU but the rest of the schedule is of curse very winnable. TCU and Utah might pose a problem.

More trouble for RichRod

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4439517&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez was business partners with a banned Clemson booster in a failed real-estate venture that led to a $3.9 million lawsuit, AnnArbor.com reported Tuesday night.

Clegg Lamar Greene is named in the lawsuit accusing Rodriguez and three others of defaulting on a multimillion-dollar loan tied to a Virginia condo development, the Web site reported.

Authorities say Greene stole money from investors, including Rodriguez, to pay debts on various business deals.

The 71-year-old Greene was accused in 2000 of providing a $1,300 loan and use of his boat to two Clemson recruits. Rodriguez was the offensive coordinator at Clemson in 1999 and 2000.

Rodriguez's agent did not immediately return a message Wednesday.

I'm not real into college football, so can anyone tell me what is so special about the Houston's new coach? Our president keeps touting him like he is a savior. :lol

Provo is a tough place to travel to due to the elevation and the fact that BYU is notorious for knocking off highly ranked teams at home. Typically teams wear down in the second half real bad.

Time for some Pac-10 predictions!

Oregon (+5.5) @ Boise State - Revenge game, after a couple of cheap shot late hits knocked out Masoli in last year's game, letting the Broncos win in Autzen. Forget covering the spread, I think Oregon wins this one. P.S. Take the over.

San Jose State (+35) @ USC - USC wins this one, and easily covers the... wait, what? The spread is 35? Shit, I'll take the points. I don't see USC unrolling too much of their offense before playing OSU the following week. Barkley gets a nice relaxed intro to the college game, Trojans win by 3, maybe 4 TDs.

San Diego State (+17.5) @ UCLA - SDSU sucks, UCLA sucks less. UCLA should win this one easily, but are they even capable of scoring 18 or more in a single game?

Stanford (-17.5) @ Washington State - Stanford is overrated, but Wazzu... well, let's just say they're not exactly underrated. The 'Furd easily wins and probably covers.

CMU (+13) @ Arizona - Ooh, I don't know about this one. Zona is overrated, their QB situation isn't looking good, and TE Gronkowski is going to miss this game, IIRC. Plus, doesn't CMU still have their QB from last year? Zona's defense should be good again, but I think CMU has an excellent shot at pulling the upset here.

Maryland (+21.5) @ Cal - Mwahaha! Revenge shall be sweet. Cal by 3-4 TDs.

LSU (-15.5) @ Washington - Hey, I know U Dub really really sucked last year, but there are a lot of factors in their favor here! They get Jake Locker back, they have a new coach, and LSU has to travel all the way across the country and play them late at night. I mean, with all that in their favor, they have a shot at the upset, right? ... ... ... :lol
LSU by 4-5 TDs.

Couple of points on this I'd like to add:

1. Oregon I think wins what starts as a shoot out and then becomes a laugher, similar to the two OSU games they played last year. They're out for revenge and I think this might be the worst BSU team in a few years.

2. +35? I don't know if I see us covering that. I expect the passing attack to be very vanilla with Barkley going deep maybe once to make other defenses aware that he can do it. Then again we went in kind of vanilla against Virginia last year in the opener and steam rolled them. I think the one real key thing to look for is how many turnovers the defense creates, the Rey Rey, Cushing, Matthews group was not as good at creating turnovers as past Trojan defenses and that is really what set them apart.

3. I think the ucla SDSU game will be ugly. The combination of the weather, the fires and the ineptitude of both teams just makes me think this one will be the low point for the Pac 10 of the weekend. I say Alteraun Verner with a pick 6 is the difference.

4. Stanford wins easily but the key thing to watch is if their passing offense improved at all. They weren't bad at running the last two years but with no passing attack they won't improve their status.

5. I'm gonna agree with you on the CMU upset. I just don't believe enough in Arizona's upward trend and starting a new QB makes it even harder to believe in them. Could get ugly.

6. Cal also wants revenge and wants an early shot to prove that they're an actual contender. I think for me the key thing will be to see if they finally have a dependable QB. Also Jahvid Best's Heisman candidacy begins.

7. I'm gonna be contrarian here and say I think UW keeps it close against LSU for at least a half. LSU is over rated, was awful on offense last year and doesn't have a great deal of travel experience. Husky Stadium is an underrated place to play and with a crowd that should be genuinely excited for once it will be rocking. The fact that it could rain this weekend seems like it could only be an advantage to the Huskies.

On Notre Dame, I think they get at least 8 wins this year as much as I hate to say that. I still don't think they'll be competitive with USC but they could squeeze out a 9th win somewhere in their schedule. Then they'll steal a BCS Bowl from someone more deserving and get slaughtered by the Big 12 runner up or whatever.

And we have good reason to be pissed if ND cons their way into a BCS game again this year. Even when they were competitive in the USC games a few years back, they still got flying-destroy-fucked in their bowl games. I don't see this team even being as good as those were.

Woooooooo Pig Sooie! OK we're probably not going to be that good this year, but I'm definitely anxious to see what Mallett can do for Arkansas. He really impressed me at Michigan. It would be great to have a decent quarterback for once. We haven't had that since Clint Stoerner.

War Eagle!

I felt the need to get that out there. Maybe attract some other Auburn fans into this place. Especially since, dammitmatt got banned again.

Isn't anyone excited for the Colorado vs. Colorado State rivalry game? Its become one of the most heated rivalries in college football in the last 10 years and its being held in Folsom Field for the first time in years after moving it from Mile High Stadium in Denver.

Ralphie-runout.jpg

Edit: Also its the first game of the season/home opener, making the craziness increased here in Boulder.

A new billboard facing the Notre Dame campus offers a not-so-subtle reminder to coach Charlie Weis that the past two seasons have not been up to the standards of the storied Fighting Irish football program.

It reads: "Best wishes to Charlie Weis in the fifth year of his college coaching internship." Weis said Tuesday he had not yet seen the billboard, about a half mile from his office, but had been told about it.

Do you mean Kevin Sumlin? This is his second year at Houston. He was the Offensive Coordinator for Oklahoma for 5 years. Cougars are now getting a higher level of recruit with him as head coach. He is actually getting good defensive players now as well. I think he is the key to getting an average team into a good team. But I think he will be at Houston for 5 years and then get a bigger job. If he can turn the Cougars into a conference powerhouse, he deserves it.

I have season tickets to the Cougars and it I saw a difference in team preperation and expectations the coaches had from the players. That is a good thing.
