Spurrier hated our black out unis and we haven't done that in years. I prefer the all Garnet ones myself
What do you expect him to say? yeah im going first chance I can get? Coaches arent dummies.
Looks like a mid-sized MAC stadium to me.

Usually I'd mock you for believing your coach will stick around, but this is actually quite possible. Dude's been passed over for years. He was actually one of our two main candidates back when we hired Tedford. Which at this point is over a decade ago. I was really pleased when he finally got hired.True, but Strong definitely seems like a different type of guy who values being given a shot here when he was the token "black" candidate for years at jobs. When he came on, I think he even said his mixed marriage played a part in being discriminated against for jobs down there. That doesn't surprise me, and it doesn't surprise me either he wouldn't care too much to go back down there.
Um...Especially for a job that isn't exactly head and shoulders above where he is at currently.
Caffeine free Coke and Sprite? Unless they're one of those dirty Pepsi campuses.

What exactly makes Arkansas better besides the league they're in? Since 2000, we've finished in the polls 4 times, Arkansas 3 times. Both 9 bowl games apiece, with Bobby Petrino the backbone of major success at both places. We fill capacity at our stadium, which is 55K (playing no one BTW), Arkansas averaged 66K last year.
The only difference is the league, but great coaches don't often pick up and leave for mediocre jobs in major conferences just for the hell of it. If Florida or Georgia came open, its a different story, but Arkansas isn't much of an upgrade.

You're right they don't leave for conferences. They leave for money, which Arkansas is way more flush with.
History of success, State University, alumni. That formula equals more money.

Strong is making 2.3 million at Louisville right now.
We paid Petrino 3.56 million at Arkansas for comparison.
We'll get somebody to come to Arkansas because we'll break out the checkbook after this horrible season.
edit: Cyan seems testy today.
You think a palty million plus matters? LOL. We'll match that easily with an extension after this season.
I, personally, don't want strong as the Razorbacks' coach. His roster/recruiting is nothing but FL, GA, SC, etc. players. Why can't he recruit OH, STL, Memphis? I think he's a good coach and I want a Defensive-minded guy, but I don't want a team full of players that UGA, Bama, Gata, and FSU turned down. Arkansas is a tough sell when you are an 18-year old kid surrounded by perennial powers.

Wasn't there a quote from some old Florida QB who said that when South Carolina did the black out, it made it easier for him to find his receivers? It was something like that.
Er, that 2.3 million was the extension: http://espn.go.com/college-football...gets-new-7-year-contract-louisville-cardinals

I was getting at that he can't recruit outside of the area that he recruited at Florida. Why can't he recruit surrounding areas? We have OK, TX, LA, and MS bordering us. Tons of talent in these states. Is he just going to pass them over to go to his comfort zone?FL and Georgia produce an insane amount of D1 players compared to those areas. And what difference is a Florida reject compared to a OSU/Michigan reject from Ohio?
Petrino was already ridiculously well paid, I think he was the 5th or 6th highest paid coach in the country. I don't see Louisville paying a top 5 salary just to keep the guy (if Arkansas went after him).
Ha! You should've seen me in pxleyes' heyday.

Petrino was also Petrino too. Explosive offense and a proven winner.
I love Strong, but he's not Petrino - yet. Arkansas isn't going to offer him Petrino money in the first place. It's a lot of hypotheticals, but our athletic budget is basically the same as Arkansas, and increasing with the expansion and new arena we're raking with.
He wouldn't if he's at Arkansas, while he's at Louisville it wouldn't make sense too, as the surrounding states are on lockdown or don't produce enough worthwhile talents. It would be a hard sell for a Texan to go Louisville (unless the move to the B12 happens), not nearly as bad for Arkansas.

There's seriously too much talent in Florida, that I can't blame him for focusing on that area.
I remember him being less than popular, but I don't remember you being the one calling him out. I figured it would be a UGA fan or something. But then again, LSU.
Oh, he would make vast proclamations about stuff like the strength of Florida's schedule, and then I'd smack him with the 2x4 of truth. Fun times.
Not so much Walmart. The Tyson chicken guy would pay for everything the university wants if the AD would hire his buddy Butch Davis. The money of the AD's isn't what we mean by "big money". They might be similar, but the amount of money the university has, the money the alumni have, is no where near the same. Arkansas has that Walmart Money. And Jerry Jones.
Man, what a bad couple weeks for ole Jer.

Arkansas really needs a good recruiter. After this season, the cupboard looks pretty bare. The QBs that we have left after Tyler Wilson leaves are pretty terrible.
Which is a concept that a lot of the homers back home can't seem to grasp. Many honestly believe that if Petrino was still there, Arkansas would be in the top 10 when the reality is that he didn't go out and get the recruits. I'm not saying Petrino isn't worth a few more wins but we weren't what the homers thought we were.
LOL sounds exactly what I heard around here when Kragthorpe took over. Petrino left the cupboard bare, too many bad apples that needed to be cleaned up, etc.
I think the plain fact is, Petrino is a Grandmaster chess player with about any offense than no one coming after him can ever replicate. No, Arkansas wouldn't have won the SEC or anything, but they would be 4-1 right now still in the top 10 at worse if he was still on. And looking at the schedule, 8-1 is likely and being in the top 5 heading into the last three if he was there.
That's just the way it is to be honest. The guy is a headcase but he designs his gameplans immaculately and tears the ass out of almost any defense.
Petrino is all system. He might be able to recruit good WR's, but it's apparent, he didn't care about recruiting, especially on defense.
I mean, in the span of a few months (and the loss of said WR's) the team has gone in the toilet. I know people want to blame it on the loss of Petrino, or John L. Smith, but I can't see it that way. It is the same team out there for either coach. Does Petrino being around somehow make Kniles Davis stop fumbling? Make the OLine block better? Make the defense do anything besides breath?
Did JLS singlehandedly create those problems?

Anyone notice this? Kind of remember people talking about Texas fumbling into the end zone, but not having it called that. Big XII Apologizing for missing that call.
Strong was on Rome today and Rome straight us asked him if he would take a call from Arkansas. Strong shot it down about as hard as someone could, basically said "a lot of people think the grass is greener but I'm not cut that way, why would I want to go somewhere when I'm building a program with all the guys I'm recruiting?"
Hell yeah.
Oops! Sorry for ruining your season, Okie State!http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/eye-on-college-football/20444030/report-big-12-apologized-profusely-for-decisive-call-in-texas-victory-at-oklahoma-state

Ah, that was you. Yeah, fascinating read.Actually he does. He's ridiculously strict and when he leaves, the players change.
I posted this before, but this is a good column on what happened after he left here:
http://www.wdrb.com/story/19625175/crawford-why-post-petrino-life-is-no-picnic
Part of it's depth and part of it's Petrino. Someone posted that article in here about how Petrino controlled every aspect of the football program. Players were scared of messing up or stepping out of line. So this year we started off with players not working as hard as they would have with BP and then they just started not caring. They all know the coaches are gone at the end of the season so they don't care what happens. We also threw a bunch of players off the team in the off-season because as soon as Petrino was fired a bunch of kids started doing stupid stuff.
Anyways, I just hope we don't hire Sonny Dykes or Willie Taggart.
