College Football Week 6 - If the Stanford Tree falls...

Ah, that would probably make sense. Chairbacks take up more space I guess.

Probably would be insanely expensive to try to make a stadium with 80-100k chairback seats to NFL standards. I know Jerry World allows 100k with standing room only I think

Yeah, I don't know what base occupancy is at JerryWorld but when they bust out record attendance like at the stadium opener they have big sections on each end that are all standing room only at field level so practically nobody can see the actual game anyway. I think it's like a bar/restaurant type thing on those ends and everybody just watches on TVs.

Wiki says Soldier is actually the smallest with around 62k. But the former version was a horseshoe, probably of just bleachers, and then the cheap seats of like 30,000 seats set up in the open end. That had to be a terrible view.

edit: Looks like seats don't cost quite that much extra space, Soldier was at 55k with bleachers, then put in seats and then expanded to 67k. Not sure why it is only 61.5 now, unless Wiki is wrong.

I thought it was more recent, looks like the 100k happened in the 1920s: http://www.soldierfield.net/content/stadium-history

1927 – The largest crowd to watch collegiate football was 123,000 to see Notre Dame take on Southern California.

Ah, they cut capacity in 1971:

September 19, 1971 - The Chicago Bears began using the facility as a regular season home and capacity was cut to 57,000 to bring season ticket holders closer to the field. Chicago defeats the Pittsburgh Steelers 17-15 before capacity crowd of 55,701 in the Bears’ first game since moving from Wrigley.

Those collonades are badass. I was about to bitch about destroying them for luxury boxes, but it looks like they actually just built up in front of them, at least on one side.

I think people overstated the loss of West Virginia, especially in light of the resurgence of Louisville and Rutgers.

Yeah... Gonna have to disagree with your assessment of how big a loss that was.

Over their history in the Big XII they've probably sold more tickets to opposing fans than their own. Seeing pictures of the crowd at Texas v Baylor games is hilarious.

Yeah, it was certainly nice to be able to have the option to pay pocket change for a Baylor-Nebraska ticket.

There are definite opportunities for certain colleges to build to 150,000+ stadiums, and still fill it.

Stadium designs are maxed out to 100-110K, for safety and view-ability issues. Couldn't imagine putting a triple deck on top of the upper decks at Bryant Denny. They'd have to be way up there to not block the view of the "middle deck". It'd become a fricken skyscraper!

Roof seats. You know it is the future. Like an upside down rollercoaster. You get sideline tickets to the next game if you catch a punt in the air.

Leave your cell phones, glasses, hats, purses, small children, and yes, even your flasks at home. 15 yard penalty to be enforced on the Home Team for any objects hitting the field. Except Bra's. Home Team awarded 3 points for AWWWWW YEAAAAH.

6 points if the bra lands on the QB's helmet.

We need a 150K+ stadium in the states, if not only to topple the Worlds largest capacity stadium in North Korea. The number of seats in that stadium exceeds 150K, but the number is probably inflated due to half of the seats being used by performers in Mass Games. I think seats should only count in the total if they are occupied by a paid patron. Otherwise, they shouldn't be counted just like seats with a tarp over them.

I agree. Bryant-Denny's newest additions are now a couple of years old, and that "new stadium" smell is mostly gone. Time to build a new stadium on all that land we just got when we bought the funny farm adjacent to the University. 200k or bust!

Louisville had the ranking and the hype for the Big East, and they are 5-0 and I think they absolutely are still capable of running the gauntlet, but Cincy and Rutgers are very legit...and we can't even take Pitt lightly, either. And we have to watch out for some freakish USF upswing, too.

I remember when I thought the same in 2006-2007 after the dust settled from the first round of expansion. Times were even better of the Big East then with WVU, Rutgers, UL and even USF sneaking into the top 10 at times.

It's a slow death not a gunshot to the head. I hope to see UL in the Big 12 at some point. *

*Note: Not really.

Because Nebraska definitely hasn't seen the color red before...

just trying to hide all the Nebraska fans invading columbus

edit - omg so late on the response here. Still stands though.

Use a NASCAR stadium. Put the field in the middle. You could have a million person mosh pit on the field alone!

Meh, you guys will probably get 10k in there. Bout as much Texas brought in.

Plus doesnt really change the fact that most OSU fans wear scarlet to the game already so.

I feel bad for Jacksonville's stadium. Without the tarps, it would be the largest stadium in the NFL. Yes, larger then the Giants/Jets and the Cowboys. The Jags will never have that kind of fan support.

Granted, this is a separate issue from why in the hell Jacksonville has a team and LA doesn't.

Cause LA had 3 and lost all of them.

You have to remember the Jag stadium was made for NCAA games. As much as ppl hate on jax have you seen the damn team its fucking horrible. They will not support a losing team there.

You could build a stadium out of other stadiums.

Drove by USF's campus today, will say this, after seeing both USF and UCF from the outside UCF has far better facilities

Hey CF-Gaf did I miss any major upsets sat? Any major news?

Poked my head into the "Is GAF too strict?" thread, and apparently it's now banable to say that you would lick or like to lick imaginary vaginas? I don't even know what this place is anymore.

I almost feel safer posting on gaming side than in OT at this point.

Reminds me of this one time back when I was in 10th grade, a girl in my class told me to close my eyes and touch an imaginary girls vagina. I didn't know what she was getting at, but I wasn't one to shy away from a strange request. I fucking did it, and it really felt like I touched a vagina, but all she really did was put her lips around my finger while my eyes were closed. She got me good.

Its crazy how much it seems USF has dicked around since joining the BE. But I know they just renovated their basketball arena and it is supposed to be pretty nice. Fun fact, they pretty much said fuck it and put in all of the New BE team banners in the rafters and didn't put up Pitt or Cuse.

I can support that. Weird seeing the Big 12 flags up at the Texas games when you knew a couple were bailing, even weirder with the BEast situation.

In that case, the best revenge would be luring them to a ChiTown thread.

If he has completed his mission, NBA-gaf should be empty about now. We can just stick them in there.

If you wanted to know how bad C-USA is, 1/3rd of the conference is winless and another third only has one win.
It's pretty pathetic this season I admit. In our defense, the normal top half of the conference has been through a lot of turmoil. Coaching turnover and talent loss. Even UCF has had a lot of turnover in the assistant ranks.

If West Virginia had stayed you guys would look a lot better, to be fair.

Nebraska travels incredibly well and most Husker fans have never been to Columbus, could very well be a lot more than that.

Nebraska fans should wear black to stand out...

I know they travel well, but its not like theyre coming to a school that also isnt football crazy. There will be a lot around the stadium im sure, but I think there will still be 10k in the stadium. It's pretty much our biggest game of the year so tickets wont be easily given up.
