Colors! 3D |OT| Art, in 3D. (Also in 2D on iOS)

My first attempt. I love this program, I'm so glad it was released in Europe just now. Paint Park was a huge disappointment but this...

Only question: is there a way to export larger version pictures via the website? I see some of yours are larger (854x512) than mine (512x680), is it because I used a portrait format? I can't access the SD card at the moment but I think the internal export function should make it slightly bigger.

Edit: I tried the Java applet from the website but it claims the .DRW file I just downloaded doesn't work :/

Well, I was painting in colors 3D, making trees for some layers, and the last tree I did, that taked me too much time, has been erased by the program.
The glitch is even worse.
I cant use now the go back button (R button or the option in the menu) in that painting, but I can use it in a new one or in my old ones.
If I see the painting with the timeline, it only covers ALWAYS until the part the game erased the tree, so you cant see the anything after that becuase it stops there. The problem is, if you go back it erases the work you have done after that tree, you have to switch the program off so it doesnt erase your work.
I have tried doing a copy of the drawing to see if I can work from the new copy, nope, still timeline and R button are fucked up.

I love this program but I have been like 2 days with this painting and Im sad and angry that i can lose all of it.

Has someone had this glitch? Is there a workaround for that?

EDIT:
Question: Why does my playback stop before my painting is complete?

There is a limit on how long the playback can be recorded in Colors! 3D. This limit is normally after 6 hours, and if you paint on a single painting for more than that, you might run into this issue. Strokes painted after that limit cannot be recorded. This will also disable Undo/Redo and the Export Painting functionality will only export up to that point.

However, you will still be able to upload your painting to the gallery, and from colorslive.com you can download a high-resolution version of your finished painting by pressing the download button.

I'll be honest, it's supposed to be a (were)wolf....................and not a bear :(
And, judging by the comments section, some people did'nt see it at first, crazy !

I've seen this one earlier today while browsing the gallery. I loved to see your different versions of not just the placement but also physical appearance of the Wolf-bear. Honestly, it's a lot closer to a wolf, but the massive forearms are probably a bit misleading.

It looks dangerous though, and that's more important for this work I'd say.

Anyway, I finished my second painting yesterday. I learned quite a bit about how to blend layers together in a more believable way. I'm still not quite comfortable with the colours, but then again, I'm coming from a black and white, ink and pencil background, so shading with colours is a completely new experience for me:

Here's my second painting. Been working on this since launch. I'm very indecisive and need lots more practice. To that end, I'll be sure to do quicker more frequent paintings from now on. That'll also help displace all of the furries and crude sex drawings I keep seeing.

Seriously. Knock it the fuck off, creepshows.

Incredible work, hydderf, chuck and boris. Really imaginative stuff. One day I'll draw something that isn't based on an intellectual property!

Yeah it's a bit dissapointing that the first thing people do is upload some crude porn and furry crap... and Friendcodes...

That links to the 1600x900 mpo file.

Now that's what I call freaking bizarre. I love it^^

I just did a very quick piece (took me less than an hour) to practice different techniques to shading

Aside from the eyes which are too big it turned out rather nice.

I went ahead and finished another environment piece I've been thinking about.

It's a bit sloppy in parts, but I'm getting better at blending the individual layers.

Welp, finished at last! :)
Disneyland Mark VII Monorail.
Im using this program as a tutorial tool to teach me paint digitally my drawings, and is really amazing.

Not so bad as I thought is going to be being my first one (lie, I did like 10 horrible tests before I draw this one lol)

I love this program!
BTW, the inspiration for the work, apart from disneyland of course, is from this amazing photo blog:

Its from a video they have of the flowers in bloom at disneyland.
The blog is about beautiful HDR photos from Disneyland and California Adventure, and they are AMAZING and very inspirational.

Holy carp! I just found the extras button. There are 3D paintings from that artist Munin in there as well as "coloring book" images that keep the color within the lines of the place you put the stylus down in. I handed it to my kid earlier and she had a blast with it.

Oh, here's my gallery. Rather bleak atm.

EDIT:
I spend 2 weeks making a Monster Hunter painting. 5 likes.
I spend 5 minutes making a naked lady painting. 15 likes.
Priceless.

I have a hankerin for a community thread where we have a contest of sorts. Like, pick a theme, paint something in a week, then there's voting over the weekend, and the winner picks the next theme. Anyone interested? Can I just make that thread directly in gaming community? Never made a thread before. The image of Samuel L. Jackson in a wife beater just popped into my head.

There's some much talents, congrats everyone.

I've made my first flower yesterday with the Colors!, i really like the interface,
it's sweet and easy, but my drawing look probably looks like those you've made at 4 years old. :)

So if you can't draw/paint at all, will this software help in any way?

The ability to watch how people structure their drawings will really help you think about how to organise your own.

Just as Hydranockz says, I use colors! as a tutorial tool. Maybe is better for me as I know how to draw but I use it as a "how to paint" tool, but you will probably learn something with the videos of people's paintings.
If you like to draw or paint, even if you are not good at it (the important thing is that you have fun) is a very cool app.

YES! I love your work.
And yeah, the web needs a subscription to artists.

BTW, do you use refence material or paint from imagination?

thanks! Also thanks to chuckpebble and apenhuel!
Well I mostly work from my imagination/memories. I will look up references for how things look if I can't remember.

I have fond memories of going to Disneyland as a kid. Love it there.
One day I'll get to go back.

This one looks great in 3D. Not as great on here.

Slightly offtopic but, for those folks who know how to draw, any books, videos, websites, etc. you recommend to learn how to paint, shade, etc.?

I got the app, and it's awesome but God does it frustrate me my lack of skill, specially while trying to paint and make something have depth.

I'd recommend Art Academy as a great starting tool as it explains the basics of shading and colour mixing, composition. It also helps getting a feeling for touch screen drawing/sketching.
The DSiWare version is a bit steap, but I found it to be quite a neat tool to learn about colour mixing and application. I'm a ink and pen guy first and foremost, so using colours to paint something is an exciting new challenge for me.

As for using depth, I would recommend using the replay feature on some drawings that show off the layer depth effect the best.

No, but you can still have a lot of fun with it, as I have.

Thanks guys! I'll go for it, some of the work I've seen has inspired me to learn and this certainly seems like a cool first step :)

Im a Disney park fan (would like to be an imagineer in the future) so i love all the art about the parks.
Its impressive you are making all this only of your impressions of the park when you were a kid.
I went last summer to Disneyland at California and just last month to Disneyland Paris, and let me tell you that the first time I entered the arcades below the station at Disneyland in California I sarted to cry like a little kid, so many emotions in so little time, just walking through Main Street and arriving to the Partners statue with Walt Disney and Mickey, I just stop there, looking at it crying, I couldnt believe I was were I always dreamed, and it left me a pretty big impression (Ive had before going to any parks, lots of Imagineering books were I studied every inch of them, and knew the park from heart even if I never had gone before that day).
The best thing is as I was going through Main Street crying, a friend that came with me was hugging and trying to confort me while we were walking, so a Cast Member dressed as a 1920 citizen with a photo camera, and that looked like an awesome Santa Claus without beard, with red cheeks and a smile from ear to ear, came to me and asked why was I crying in the happiest place of earth, so my friend told him it was from all the emotion of being there the first time. The guy said "Thats what the real magic does", hugged me, got our camera (not the one used for the park) and did some amazing photos with the horse carriage passing and the buildings and castle.

I think thats one of my favourite experiences ive got in all my life and I will remember it forever.
And coming from a country (Spain) where in its theme parks the majority of Cast Members (well, better put simply workers, because they are shit) treat you like shit, the disneyland experience blew my mind, even if knew people there wore much better before going.

Lol, absolutely off topic, sorry.

BTW I saw your blog in your Colors! account and its awesome so I put it on favourites in my browser.

Really like this idea ;)

Im all for it, the thing is getting a good amount of people interested so its not like 3 persons the only ones drawing.

Dude. Thank you for sharing this with me. I'm glad I'm not the only person here that's fond of themed environment design. I used to daydream about designing rides when I was a kid. Grew up in L.A. but live in Atlanta now.

Check out the season pass podcast and window to the magic podcast... my two favorites. I think you will dig them very much.

I love the casting of light and the simple way that this creates depth. Since I'm not much of a painter but have all of my training in drawing, inking and sketching, I'm allways amazed to see depth and texture being created by paint. It's a completely new experience for me and the works shown here help me a lot to think about how to improve myself in this area.

Hahaha, no, thanks to you for those magnificent drawings you are doing that are inspiring me so much.
And Im also gald to see another person that likes so much themed enviromental design, when I was going through your blog I saw the designs of the euro fighter going through the temple with the expedition balloon in the sky and I became in love with it.
And thanks for those podcasts, will surely listen to them!

Hahahaa, magnificent again. The eye of Mara! One of the things I most like about your painting is the use of colours to give a depth of light. Do you have or know some type of tutorial to understand better all this? 5 years in a fine arts university didnt show me well the use of colour it seems, lol.
