Drop it, and go get all of Knight & Squire. You can thank me later.

I have heard good things about it. That is a possibility along with Jonah Hex or Batman and Robin.

Honestly though, I'm probably getting enough bat-books as it is. Detective and Inc. are really the cream of the crop, with everything else lagging far behind. I get my Grayson and Wayne fill for the month.

Errrrr I don't know about that. That first issue was turgid.

Says the Matt Fraction fan. Cornell created 88 new characters just for that issue! The book just oozes warmth and charm. Only a terrorist could hate it.

For the life of me I don't get why everybody hates on the Guggenheim Jsa run. It's not the greatest thing going, but it's decent fun. The first time the Jsa's been worth reading in two years. #48 kept up the trend.

Green Arrow #9 was just a big fight scene vs The Demon, but possibly the best issue in the series so far. Another title that's not the greatest thing going, but somehow keeps me coming back. I guess I like the themes and subtext.

Secret Avengers #10 on the other hand was a pile of cliches only held together by Deodato. We're talking Liefield level storytelling here. It's a good thing they're getting Brubaker off this after next issue. Otherwise I'd probably drop it.

knight & squire was honest to god the only comic book i have ever fallen asleep to while reading

See you shouldn't have said that, because now you've given away that you're a terrorist.

I just got done knocking Fraction, but Thor #620 was the closest he's come to the cool Thor one-shots he wrote two years ago. Yeah, the villains are completely one-dimensional and forgettable, and it doesn't quite feel like the epic battle for everything that it's supposed to as much as one guy vs three, but whatever. It was alright, had a couple of moments, and for this run that's been like 8 issues of absolutely nothing, that's progress.

"be careful, Red Robin. They're wearing sunglasses at night. Which means they're very, very cool"

At first I thought this line was stupid, but then I realized this was Dick. I appreciate Snyder putting in dialogue like this to differentiate Dick from Bruce as Batman.

Wait, is the First Wave series itself ending without the final damned issue?

God dammit!

Edit:
The First Wave line kicked off with a Batman/Doc Savage special by Brain Azzarello and Phil Noto in 2009. It was followed by the Doc Savage and Spirit ongoings, as well as the six-issue First Wave miniseries that wraps up next week. A First Wave special is scheduled for April.

Thank Zod!

McDuffie passing away and First Wave getting canned this is a shitty week.

Good thing I get a new Savage Dragon and some Jason Pearson art to help ease the pain. :(

Avengers #10 - this has gotta be my favourite Marvel series right now. It's just always epic over the top fun & character moments. I'll be kinda sad to see JR jr. leave, I think he's been great for this book.

Weird, the txt version of the diamond shipping list is still showing the releases from last week. I guess they'll update it soon.

I thought I read that on CBR but a quick google search reveals nothing so maybe it was my brain misinterpreting something else.

I'm also still deciding on whether I want to drop Tony Daniel's Batman. The stories and art are fine but his own characters suck (Catgirl and Enigma). The fact that its going to be wrapped up in a crossover in April doesn't help.

I felt the same way. It's dropped for me and I've been picking up JSA. I read an interview with Guggenheim, who is currently on the book and he talked about how back in his day a writer would do a really long run on a book. He's trying to stay on this one for as long as possible, and that's what I'm looking for. Consistency.

You also mention Batman Inc and Detective being the cream of the crop. If you haven't already, give Batman: The Dark Knight a try. Only one issue has come out so far but it's pretty awesome.

Now that's a great run! It really picks up in Vol.2, probably one of my favorite stories.
Here is an interview with Alex Ross on how Thy Kingdom Come came about.

Kudos to Dale Eaglesham for drawing PG with some damned muscles. Hells yes!

Hey, what a coincidence! I just dug out that run to read through too, probably in anticipation of Eaglesham on Alpha Flight. It's a lot more manageable to read all together. At the time it just went on and on forever and felt like it was going nowhere. Like you don't even get to the main story where the god appears until after 7 issues of prologue. The first fight with the crazy guy Gog was always awesome though. Does the trade include the annual and the Kingdom special issues?

Consistency is definitely important. Especially to guys like me who were tricked into thinking JMS would be staying on Wonder Woman and Superman for more than four issues.

I liked the first issue of The Dark Knight, but it's kind of the same problem. The very first issue had delays and the release schedule has been pushed around a lot since then. That kind of stuff makes me think that Finch might get bored and quit before finishing the story or something.

I'm not sure. Never read it before and the other two volumes are still sealed. Unfortunately volume 1 doesn't list what is reprinted inside in the fine print like most trades do. Snagged the stupid hardcovers from the shop for 50% off. HAW!

Vol.2 has the annual and Vol.3 has Magog, Superman and The Kingdom specials.

I know! The end of December was when it came out. I need my fix. I can only re-read that and Batman: The Return so much! It was the #1 book in December too, you would think DC would want to keep it fresh in everyone's mind.

Finch is putting a ton of detail into it and I think DC knew it would come out at a sporadic rate. They probably should have set it up as a bi-monthly, but i guess they were optimistic.

Says the person who called out someone for being a Matt Fraction fan.

I don't even have the strength to laugh at that argument. Too bemused.

*fans self with Invincible Iron Man #501, 23 pages alone that make your argument hold about as much water as a five year old bag of sand*

So the last issue of FF was beautiful. Hickman is getting really good at this whole 'writing human beings' thing. Really looking forward to Future Foundation. It's such a good place to take the series.

WAHHHHHHHH

Still worth it to pick up Detective Comics this month? I didn't really enjoy Gordon's back up in the previous issues so I don't know if I should get it or not. Kind of debating about Secret Avengers also.

Definitely Spider-Man though. Finally all caught up.

Well if you really didn't enjoy the first parts then don't bother on detective, but the art really is great and i thought it was a great issue overall, really creepy and tense

I was a bit bored with it. It seemed overly short this month...next issue looks fan-fucking-tastic.

Dear Marvel,

Pick one artist for X-23. ONE.

Dear Spank,

D-List characters get apprentice and entry level artists.

Sincerely,

P.S. Ryan Stegman is too talented to be wasted on Toeverine.

It was all the silent bits. I had to go back and count the pages at the end too. But come on, the part where Namor got the Infinity gem and Red Hulk was like "gimme" and he was all like "uh..." and gave it to Thor instead? Awesome. I liked the debate between Iron Man & Cap too, I mean I know they do that a lot but but feels like the conversation is going somewhere.

So I read Legion #10, couldn't get it last week. Dug it, thought it was one of the strongest issues Levitz has done on the return. It was good to see after Legion Academy's writing was...not so strong. I love how everybody thinks Brainiac's too big a dick to be in charge. Great job on the art too.

Warriors Three #4 was a decent ending to the mini, but a bit anti-climactic. I'm not sure why Willingham made it about a new POV character for the last issue, with only 4 issues you'd think he could let the Three have the spotlight. But not a bad little mini overall. The Loki series is where it's at for Thor-related minis right now though. Astonishing Thor is pretty good too.

Well, I guess that's why Erik Larsen can't hire anybody else to draw Savage Dragon for him. :p

I have no words for FF this week. Is there a detailed overview of everything thats shown (kind of similar to the return of bruce wayne #6 analysis)? As someone who doesn't really read FF, I definitely think I missed a few references here and there.

I'm pretty ambivalent about the whole War of the Green Lanterns story coming up, but man this piece of art they released today is awesome.

Is New York Five any good?

i really liked the first two issues, but i'm a huge fan of brian wood and ryan kelly's last work together: local, so i might be biased.

also i didn't read the first series and really enjoyed this one in spite of that so try it out! I'm thinking of getting New York Four in trade as the digest size is only ten bucks

This makes no sense.

Dragon has a daddy. Toeverine is in foster care, and like all children in foster care she's getting locked in the basement and sexually abused. Every so often the foster children find a good parent and we get a Kingdom Come or New Frontier, but most of the time it's just rape and abuse. :D

Keep crying about your corporate properties getting D-list talent, I'll keep enjoying my awesome creator owned books. :D

Neither did anything you said, so I responded in kind.

You're not seriously going to sit there and pretend suddenly you don't know how funnybook companies assign talent now are you Spike?

Top tier talent goes to top tier characters, X-23 gets whatever's left. Welcome to the D-list. Composite Avenger says hello. :p

God damn!

Hulk is sooo good. Jeph Loeb writing some of the best damn comics in a while.

Here's the official response to all haters.

Great art, fun story, great coloring. This book fires on all cylinders. Can't wait to get to the new stuff as well since Jeff Parker sounded like he had some good ideas.

Checked out the first issue of ASM Big Time. Felt like too much was packed into the issue, really dislike how they've screwed up the Sinister Six. What the hell happened to Doc Ock?! >:|

Humberto Ramos is great on art, but writing and the awful changes to the villains really left me cold. Sucks because I was looking forward to Stefano Casselli finally getting on a proper Marvel book and not filling in on crap titles since those jerkwads at Marvel poached him off of G.I. Joe where he was doing fantastic work with familiar faces.
