The Fantastic Four: First Steps | Official Trailer

Where'd you get the notion I watch those movies? I stay away from all of that Marvel garbage (with the exception of the old early 00's Xmen and Raimi's Spiderman because they actually felt fresh at the time).

Well, I subscribe to the unorthodox notion that one can only call a film "garbage" if they've, you know, watched it.

A very strange approach to film analysis, I know.

My son has asked multiple times to go see this movie. He likes the Rock guy and thinks that is cool.

I am not sure if I should introduce an 11 year old to the marvel movie universe. Although this may be the point to jump on the next phase.
I can't imagine FFFS has much in the way of MCU references. At best it might have alt versions of MCU characters (maybe a nod to Pym or Stark as a competing scientist or inventor?) but otherwise it should be pretty isolated.

If he's interested in this one then go for it. If he likes it and wants more then you can always go back to the older ones with him. Like you say this one's probably about as good a jumping-on point as you're going to get for this point.

So I guess the plot will be

they don't give up the kid. sufergirl's magic square only weakens galactus and he still destroys half the galaxy. They get in their special spaceship and warp to the new avengers universe, leaving everyone dead on their earth.

Galactus wanting their kid sounds really dumb, I can't fathom any explanation that makes it sound not stupid.
The kid has powers that put him in the top tier of powerful beings in the universe so my guess is Galactus wants the kid to steal his powers or have him do his bidding.

He's fucking galactus, he can just take the kid and eat the planet.

Marvel need to stop putting out so many clips, they've done a great job of making me downgrade my expectations.

I guess he'd want the kid delivered to him rather than having to go hunt for it and maybe risk hurting/killing him in the process. Galactus has great capacity for destruction, doesn't mean he can easily find something tiny on a planet.

Galactus actually does possess a level of honor (from his perspective), honesty, and even a level of respect for those he feel has earned it. The entire reason Norrin Radd was allowed to become Silver Surfer and serve as Galactus' herald was because Norrin offered to in exchange for his planet being spared, and Galactus fully honored that agreement. Galactus only devours worlds because he flat out needs to in order to survive, and is fully willing to spare specific worlds if certain circumstances happen.

If he's giving the Fantastic Four this offer, there is likely some level of buildup to this, possibly being slightly impressed that four individuals would be so bold as to challenge him and even able to escape his initial attack on them, something like that.

Where have I seen this fake moral dilemma before? I can't remember right now...

Pretty much confirmed that in the next movie Galactus' daughter will seek revenge on Mr. Fantastic.

It's an abortion joke, obviously. But then I watched the x teaser and see that she already has the baby at that point. Till now I don't think there was any indication that she goes through the entire pregnancy in the film, I just assumed she was first trimester or so till the very end.

But it's good to know that they cling to the newborn and apparently the rest of Earth dies for it. Though if Franklin is all Galactus actually wants, I bet now they flee into the multiverse to lure Galactus AWAY from their Earth, saving it in the process.

Shouldn't THE WOMAN be doing the talking about what happens to her unborn bab....errr fetus.....er loose collection of cells that have no soul and can be disposed of per her whims?

Movie takes place in the sixties, women have no say in any matter.

They clearly know they have some time before Galactus reaches Earth, I don't think it's unbelievable that two parents who are also genius scientists might try to figure out a way to stop Galactus rather than just instantly giving up their child.

Given the Fantastic Four are established heroes in this universe who have saved the planet at least once based on what the TV show host says in the trailers, it'll be interesting to see how much of the public maintains hope in their saviors and give them a chance to solve this versus how many fully prioritize their own safety and demand the people who saved their lives to begin with give up their newborn child immediately.

Oh, I don't disagree, I'd try other options as well, especially once the kid is born (but couldn't they clone him?). But till now folks just assumed Galactus was here to eat earth, now we have a new motivation for him. So I can see the conclusion that the Richards flee their universe to both save their kid AND draw Galactus away from Earth. Makes their MCU introduction a lot less tragic if that's the case, and of course opens up the future to Galactus pursuing them (or MCU version also wanting Franklin).

but couldn't they clone him?)

Either A) they're not scientifically capable of that or the process would take too long before Galactus arrived, or B) Reed read the infamous Spider-man: The Clone Saga era of comics and it traumatized them to the point the mere suggestion of making a clone will give him a severe panic attack. :messenger_winking:

This makes sense to me as well. They save galactus as a bad guy, save their world, and still have a reason to run without everyone hating them.

It makes the movie have essentially zero consequences of course so I see it being the answer

'Fantastic Four' First Reactions Praise "Immaculate" VFX & "Pitch-Perfect Script": "One Of The Best Things Marvel Has Ever Made"

As summer at the box office heats up, MCU fans are sharing their first reactions to The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Following first screenings for the debut entry in Marvel Studios' Phase 6, which hits theaters July 24, audiences have praised the visual artistry, impeccable writing and performances from Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Julia Garner.

On X, one fan called it "Quite possibly the best Marvel Studios film ever released. Absolutely loaded with talent and standout performances from Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn. If you thought the MCU died with Endgame, think again. Thoughtfully crafted and easily a genre-defining classic."

I can't believe people still fall to those clickbait articles.

I always love how they push the fake praise to such extremes that it immediately becomes apparent that it is bullshit.

"Immaculate VFX" and "pitch-perfect script", buddy everyone has seen the trailers and the movie clips.

I might skip this one. Really enjoyed Thunderbolts but apparently they wont actually be the main Avenger team going forward? So I don't give a fuck.

As much as I love Thunderbolts, you can't really expect a team consisting of three Super Soldiers, a Black Widow, a teleporter, and an all powerful dude who actually can't use said power without grave consequences to be the main Avengers team, they just don't have the firepower to match typical Avengers threats. Walker even says in the post credits scene that the public generally thinks Sam's team are the real Avengers. Given the cast reveal of Avengers Doomsday, Sam likely has Thor (among others) on his team and Thor alone out-scales all of the New Avengerz combined except Bob who really shouldn't be fighting unless it's a last resort.

Already the best thing to come of this movie by a country mile:

Damn, its like she went from 13 yo to 30, skipping her 20's altogether. Millie Bobby Brown is kinda the same way. Something about the sculpted look of their faces robs them of an actual youthful appearance.

Jahns liked it

-Sue Storm is not the main character, Reed Richards is
-Stay for the first end credits scene
-Second end credits scene is fun

If this is true, then why the misleading and confusing PR campaign in the run up?

Much like that odd-ball "Superman is an immigrant" comment which had NOTHING to do with the film, why are these people being allowed to say silly things that are off-message for the film?

1. Show all of your action scenes and highlights in trailers
2. Lie about certain elements to create a sense of intrigue so that the bar is raised back up slightly
3. Pretend it was a good strategy

IS it weird that I like it? Maybe its because I'm about to turn 40, but she looks amazing, has a mature and captivating look and just looks good.

Don't get me wrong, she looks good, but she doesn't look 20, unless she's been rolled hard and put away wet.

Go back and look (at her face) during that infamous interview for The Acolyte where she is pokie pokie, she looks more like a teen there. I'm sure it's just the gala make-up.
