I'll second the recommendation for the She-Hulk trade. It's the absolute best comic Marvel is currently publishing and is a hoot and a half, especially if you're an old school Marvel fan.

Meanwhile, a slow but solid week:

Ocean #2 (of 6) - The first issue was pretty fantastic, with glorious art by Sprouse bolstering Ellis's standard schtick. Don't get me wrong, I dig Ellis, but he's really begining to recycle a lot of his themes. Still, it's pretty decent and looks terrific.

The Walking Dead #12 - 'Nuff said.

New Thunderbolts #1 - I had the vague idea that this was going to be released eventually, but had no idea it was showing up so soon. Busiek's writing so I'm buying, even if I'm not incredibly excited by co-author FabNic. I expect this to be solid, if not groundbreaking, superheroics and doubt I'll be suprised either way.

Finder #35 - My absolute favorite regular title...if by regular you mean "mostly bi-monthly". Hey, the creator just had a baby, so I'm willing to cut her some slack. I've raved about this plenty before, but on the off-chance anyone missed it, be sure to go read thee three free issues at Carla Speed McNeil's website.

I haven't bought a mainstream comic book since Watchmen (which I got in the late '90s), but I believe I may have to pick up this She-Hulk trade. Amazon has it listed as shipping on Nov. 24, though--do comic book shops get this sort of thing earlier?

Whoa, whoa, whoa.... is that Capt. Marvel(as in book got the book earlier this year) I see in the background? Is he a regular? Hmm I need New Thunderbolts background info!

I discovered Finder over the Summer and have been working my way thorugh the TPBs. Great stuff. Reminds me of early Love and Rockets.

i think ID is the 17th. why are they listing it now?

ACTION COMICS #821 preus, eh? *sigh*...... maybe if ian churchill pencils the book then i'd be more excited......

IDENTITY CRISIS #6 (Of 7) dear god, dont let it be
wally
who's the killer.

JSA #67 for anyone reading identity crisis, READ THIS BOOK!!! the autopsy results could reveal who's the killer.

the maybe column

NIGHTWING #99 gotta see how this story wraps up....
GREEN ARROW #44
GOTHAM CENTRAL #25 *i'll probably end up buying it either way.....
FIRESTORM #7 ronnie raymond is one of my favorite characters from the 80's. gotta see if he'sdead or not.
AQUAMAN #24 kinda like the new direction aqua's going..... i'll see if it's worth a look.

Yeah, I can see that. At any rate, Finder is glorious material. Be sure to pick up the Mystery date trade once you've caught up with Finder.

Well, Marvel's preview blurb emphasizes that everyone here are FORMER VILLIANS! Yes, FORMER VILLIANS, I shit you not. Does Captain Marvel count as a FORMER VILLIAN? I never read the title, so I dunno if there may have been some relevant plot point I missed.

Hold on, I'm going to go cause myself pain and suffering...

...alright, I'm back. I found a thread about the New Thunderbolts on the Newsarama forums. Looks like we've got:

Songbird, Blizzard, Captain Marvel, Mach IV, Atlas, Radioactive Man, and Speed Demon. I guess Marvel's preview blurb should have been FORMER VILLIANS AND FOLKS WHO SHOWED UP IN AVENGERS FOREVER.

In other news: She-Hulk is about to go on hiatus. To quote Tom Brevoort:

"She-Hulk is a series that we're all proud of; one that got great reviews, but tended to get lost amongst all of the other books we're publishing. So in an effort to bring more attention to it--same approach as with Runaways--we're bringing 'season one' to a close in issue #12, and then relaunching with a new first issue and a larger marketing push for our 'second season'."

That had better be a hiatus and not a "hiatus", or someone's going to get hurt. Fortunatly, Tom eases the pain by letting slip a crucial bit of information:

"The secret is that John Byrne is a figment of Jen's imagination, and always has been. Who knew?"

The silver lining, maybe?

And after that? "She-Hulk #12 ships in February. She-Hulk ‘Season Two’ will begin in May with Dan writing - Paul is moving over to a different project with Dan.”
No more Paul Pelletier with 'Season Two'? ...I nominate Frank Cho as his replacement! :D

Well, he did sorta go NUTS and destroy the universe.

Sweet where Marvel goes I follow! and as Spike pointed out... he did destroy everything as we know it at one point... but he's ok now... really.... <glances around>

Or, at least, where Busiek goes, I follow.

Okay, I reckon that counts. He and Jean Grey should shack up and have kids. Entire universes will fall every time the lil' tots get a bit pekish.

He and Scarlet Witch would be a better fit methinks... neither of them would admit they were crazy....

<groan>God that was such a bad way for them to "rewrite" her history and have her go out...

Why does the Galhound figure have a schlong? I thought it was a tail at first but then I looked at this pic:
Intron%20Depot%20PVC%20statue%201%20side.jpg

WTF.

It's the front of her dress. The strip covering her naughty bits hangs down and ends in some kinda metallic ornamentation. Trust me, it's not a penis.

BTW, the back of that dress? ...There isn't one.

SEP040304 SUPERMAN SECRET IDENTITY TP $19.95

Anyone know if this was any good? I couldn't find the first issue and figured I might as well wait for the trade to come out.

I'd love to see Frank Cho on She-Hulk (it would be nice to have a GOOD ARTIST to go with the good writing on this book. :p ), but Frank Cho is already doing Shanna The She-Devil.

I think this is only 3 issues right? I really liked the first issue, then it kinda tapered off. It starts out as a real person dealing with real powers but starts to get more and more out there and difficult to identify with as he takes on the mantle of Superman and has to deal with a whole new set of problems. A definite read, but a medium recommendation on buy.

I like Frank Cho, but not on She-Hulk. The T&A will distract from the brilliance of Slott's writing. I nominate Dean Haspiel.

As for my, I'll be grabbing:

GOTHAM CENTRAL #25
IDENTITY CRISIS #6 (Of 7)
SUPERMAN SECRET IDENTITY TP
AVENGERS FINALE #1

It was 4 issues. The trade is 208 pages, and includes bonus material.

IIRC Shanna is an 8-issue miniseries set for February, and Frank should already be close to (if not) finished with the pencils; after all, he said he was working on #6 in an August interview. Marvel's decision to move it off the MAX imprint means he'll have to do some touching up (bye-bye nipples), but honestly - how long would that take? I think he'd be free to work on She-Hulk immediately, unless Marvel puts him on something else.

And if Marvel is really serious about giving She-Hulk the advertising push it deserves, well... nothing says "BUY THIS BOOK" to the fanboys more than wholesome cheesecake art courtesy of Frank Cho.

GREEN ARROW #44

Not sure what else I may get.

"She-Hulk is a series that we're all proud of; one that got great reviews, but tended to get lost amongst all of the other books we're publishing. I'm not familiar with Runaways, so what does this mean? Will the storylines be continued into the new 'season' or will it be like it's starting all over again? Hopefully it continues where season one leaves off. Otherwise it'll be a BS move in an industry where no other type of move seems possible. :p And I don't know why they're complaining about sales/being overlooked. It wasn't ripping up the charts, but She-Hulk's been selling more than respectably.

Marvel's decision to move it off the MAX imprint means he'll have to do some touching up (bye-bye nipples),
Speaking of nipples, what happened to them in Intimates #1? Seemed like some airbrushing took place from the Previews edition to the final issue. :p

Let's see what I'm getting this week.

DC COMICS

SEP040383 100 BULLETS #55 (MR) $2.50
JUN040803 ABSOLUTE PLANETARY HC $49.95
SEP040382 ANGELTOWN #1 (OF 5) (MR) $2.95
SEP040311 CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN #6 (Of 6) $2.95
SEP040371 OCEAN #2 (Of 6)$2.95

IMAGE

AUG041563 FORSAKEN #3 $2.95
JUN041359 GRAY AREA #3 (Of 3) $5.95
JUL041785 WALKING DEAD #12 (MR)$2.95

And probably something else obscure that I don't remember ordering. Really looking forward to Absolute Planetary and 100 Bullets.

100 BULLETS #55
ACTION COMICS #821
IDENTITY CRISIS #6 (Of 7)
JSA #67
AVENGERS FINALE #1
MARVEL KNIGHTS SPIDER-MAN #8
X-MEN THE END BOOK ONE DREAMERS AND DEMONS #5 (Of 6)
TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE VOL 3 #9

This is the one week every month I look forward to the most. I'm dying to read Identity Crisis the most. I get the feeling the big reveal is going to happen this issue, leaving #7 for the aftermath. While I was a bit mixed with Avengers, I'm still going to pick up the Finale. More than likely Battle Angel Alita Vol. 6 will be in the store now, so I'll also get that.
