The best part about Batman Odyssey is the art.

Did I say best? Sorry.

I meant the only good part.

Also that it isn't written by Kevin Smith. I went and bought the books (at half price) just so I could tell my children how not to write a comic book :lol

also, surprisingly the Marvel Universe Vs The Punisher was kinda cool. Wish the price tag wasn't so high, but it was a good read and I'll stick with it for it's pure corniness.

Store was sold out of R.E.B.E.L.S., have to pick that up later in the week.

Stuff I got:

New Mutants Forever #1 - I got halfway through this and had to stop reading. I'm pretty sure Chris Claremont is dead and this is just being written by a 14 year old kid. Anybody could have written something this generic and low quality. Anybody. The characterization reads like "hey, ____, how's your personality trait?" "I'm conflicted about some conflict. Oh, hey, a fight scene's starting." The art sucks too, there are like 3 fight scenes in the pages I read and I'm pretty sure the guy just posed some GI Joes in awkward positions and used them as models. I mean look at this shit:

prv5686_pg5.jpg

There's like, no thought going into any of that. Every time I look at it I notice something else stupid. "Big burly soldiers with machine guns? Walk up to them in the snow - karate kick to the body armor! Take that! Now you're flying sideways! Yay X-men!" Fuck. I can't believe Cry For Justice isn't the lamest thing I've bought in the last two weeks. That at least had car crash value.

Sole redeeming feature: sweet Sienkiewicz alternate cover.

Avengers Prime #2 - This was decent fun. That's pretty much all I can say about it. Oh, and the plot totally runs roughshod over everything happening in the main Thor book. gg Marvel editorial.

S.H.I.E.L.D. #3 - Wherein Isaac Newton
graphically fucks a scaly green deviant and strangles Galileo.
I'm kinda wondering if I should've trade-waited, this is too quality to be interrupted by giant ads for Hulk pyjamas.

doom Patrol #13 -This is my favourite issue of this series so far. These characters dealing with being seriously messed up is far more entertaining than stories about interdimensional repo men. The subtlety with which Giffen writes Dayton's manipulation of his ex-wife is really well done, like he's almost not aware of what he's doing. I hope it keeps up this tone.

Daredevil Black & White - Two predictable short stories and a decent text piece. The text bits are always the best part about these, Marvel should just do a whole pulp magazine.

First page of ASM 639 and wow, why are Pete and MJ so fat?

Edit: Oh, thank god. Page 2 brings relief. I don't think I could stomach that art for an entire issue.

Yeah, you don't want them to write something entertaining. Perish the thought!

Okay. ASM 639. You got much, much better since 638. I never read OMD but all signs point to it being absolute shit. But 639, while you're still a little bullshit with some of the melodrama, but goddamnit, you got me.

Some of the art didn't sit well with me at all, particularly the Quesada stuff. But all in all, I rather enjoyed the issue.

anyone who is still being duped by Claremont deserves what they get!

:lol :lol
cant wait for Hellboy, anyone else read Alan Moore's Necromicon or whatever? really creepy lovecraftian stuff, i only just read that The Courtyard was its prequel, short 2-issue setup for this story, basically...if you dug some of the end of From Hell
particularly Jack's crossing the 4th dimension via murder and such
you should be all over this.

Shadowland 2 was great, despite its art...bullseye one-shot though can totally be passed on, ugh.

as for O.M.I.T....ok Joe, im not throwing up in my mouth yet, so you've still got me. given that ive actually read ASM almost entirely since One More Day & didnt know we stuck with Civil War continuity, let's see how everyone "forgot".

Onto Secret Warriors & S.H.I.E.L.D., kinda saving the best for last. Anyone know when Scarlet 2 comes out? I loves me some bendis + maleev.

WOW. Now this is just f*cking crazy. Pilfered from CBR's weekly "Comic Book Legends Revealed" column:

Just how determined/obsessive/fanboyish is DC writer and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns? He had decided Lex Luthor was Superboy's human "father" SEVEN YEARS before personally making it happen in Teen Titans #1, and five years before he even started working for DC.

Determined is a word. And good on Johns. He made shit happen with his craziness. Love pretty much all the stuff I've read from him.

DC is smarter? Other than Morrison, anyway.

There are more than two companies, you know. But yeah, I could se this being a Morrison or Vertigo type thing. DC ranges from cartoony stuff to smart person stuff, they're all over the map. Marvel has a tighter tonal focus I think, this doesn't feel like their house style at all. They tend to stay far away from stuff with (real) occult undertones whereas DC embraced it through Moore/Gaiman/Morrison and others.

Am I the only one who reads Captain America on a regular basis? Never seems like many people pick it up in the thread.

I usually pick it up. I dunno, it's still good, but it's just kinda...there.

I'll admit that it's not as good as it was prior to Steve coming back. It seems like they are kind of just stuck trying to figure out whether or not their lead is going to be Bucky or Steve. Once they sort that out it should get back into top form.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. I enjoy Bucky as Cap, and sorta wish they'd keep Steve off in Secret Avengers. I also hate how Bucky is sometimes portrayed as an idiot/rookie, but that is mostly from the Avenger books.

I like Steve as Cap more than Bucky. Bucky would be great as his own persona, but as far as using the Cap persona, he doesn't really fit the bill for me. Bucky worries too much about being Cap like instead of being himself. Once he gets into his own role it will be wonderful.

yeah, what'd omg rite do to get perma'd?

Bru's cap has been solid the whole way through, up till the recent teabagger thing which kinda dragged on, and im not sure what it's got in store past that. i really wish he could just tell flashback Winter Soldier stories.

still surprised none of you seem to've picked up Neonomicon, it's horror + alan moore (on what i think he said is his last comic effort!).

I agree. I also liked there was no explanation for what why it was there. It was just there and moved on.
Ya, man! I found myself simultaneously wanting to see the end of the story, but hoping that it would be stretched out because I loved the whole concept.
