OK Comics gaf. I need some advice. Want to get the backstory to avengers vs. xmen.

I know what happened with the House of M and the Mutants, but am unclear ont eh deal with Hope Summers. I stopped reading around Messiah Complex and got a copy of Second Coming.

Do I need to read Second Coming:Revalations? And what other X-story lines do I need to brush up on?

They just came out with a pretty handy (but unfortunately named) trade: Avengers v. X-Men: It's Coming.

My friend pointed out how much Doc M looked like Archer and now I can't unsee it so, that's pretty much it for me.

"Laurie...Laurie....LAURIE!!" "WHAT?" "Lung Cancer Danger Zoooone!!"

Really? Just 4 issues? I think I'll wait.

Isn't there a Omnibus of this run? I don't know how they handle collection printing at marvel but I wouldn't be surprise that they would wait a few years to reprint stuff...

Marvel usually does: "Premiere" Hardcovers which are 4-6 issues. Then they do TPBs of same issue count.

Depending how popular a run/series is they either will do Omnibuses (hardcover, 20-30+ issues) or Oversized Hardcovers (12-13 issues or generally 2 of the Premiere/TPBs combined).

If they do an Omnibus or Oversized hardcover, they generally release them again in softcover and stick "Ultimate Collection" as the title.

The Omnibuses and Oversized have limited production and phase out but I figured the Ultimate Collections wouldn't since they are kind of the "bargain version."

So I read the first issue of The Flash when it originally hit, wasn't really feeling it. Reminded me too much of the tepid Johns / Manapul run.

I decided to give some of the later issues a shot over the weekend, and damn! Manapul is drawing the shit out of that comic. The whole TED Talk superhero thing is actually kinda cool once they start getting into it, I like the emphasis on far out science. This is probably the most I've ever enjoyed Flash comics.

Yeah, I love WATXM, but that's pretty shit. And you know the next TPB is just gonna be #5-8, same format.

Seriously. This is costing MORE than the same four issues in singles format. I've been feeling pretty bad about DC lately with regards to the whole Before Watchmen thing, but Marvel are fucking scumbags too.

I would buy the Ozy book for Jae Lee's artwork alone

This is probably just very personal to me, but I hate Jae Lee's art. There's a quality to it that is literally airless - reading a book of it makes me feel a little like I'm suffocating. It's the least dynamic work I can think of, each frame is like a drawing of a statue, frozen. There's no fluidity or movement there. It makes me feel very uncomfortable to read it.

Hahaha oh wow. Comixology's 99 cent marvel sale today is Heroes reborn. What a dark era for Marvel.
Hahaha I remember just starting buying comics back then, thought it was a good moment to jump in. Got all the Iron Man magazines (which was Iron Man + Avengers) that were published in my country...

At 15 years old, on my first encounter with Rob Liefeld's art I could already tell he couldn't draw to save his life :D

Thank god for the return of the Avengers with Busiek & Perez one year after this mess.

Great choices m'man, hope you enjoy the books, especially Atomic Robo ;D

BTW anyone else like Kirby's OMAC? That's prob. my FAVOURITE Kirby series.

Need comics with great drawings, and lots of sexy women. Might be erotic or not.

I liked the way women are drawn in Witchblade, Tomb Raider, etc. Anything similar?

Boobies!

Oh man, you are SPOILED FOR CHOICE! There are so many shitty comics out there, you will be tripping over them. Off the top of my head, here's a list of books I won't be buying any time soon - Vampirella, Danger Girl, Bomb Queen, Gen13, some WildCats even... how about some classic Leifeld Glory? Boobies! Oh, there's the Dodson and Cho catalogues too, lotsa boobies there.

The new Catwoman is pretty great, and she has boobs. Plus you might like the artist's previous work on Gotham City Sirens. But from the sounds of it you might LOVE the Jim Balent Catwoman series from the 90s, it was boobitastic. And if you dig that, try his Tarot series, I think that even has nipples (!!). I hear the Voodoo series that DC put out was pretty good, and she's a stripper, so lots of boobies there. Plus Power Girl obviously.

DC's new Birds of Prey series has probably the prettiest ladies in comics (for the time being at least). Jesus Saiz draws great hair.

Hands down my favourite women in comics are by Jamie McKelvie and are in Phonogram. But they look like actual humans so may not be what you're after.

Anyway, I should probably stop taking the piss now :p no harm meant, I promise!

TTOB should have some more recs for you later.

it's also got haunted vaginas and lady werewolves, which SOMEHOW are just naked ladies with wolf heads. and at one point an eel bites the heroine in her lady parts.

Tarot is the best worst comic.

Anyone reading the Young Justice comics? I'm loving the show these days but I never hear anything about the comic.

Brahs I'm about to read my first Kirkman, wish me luck.

Which one? Hope it's Invincible. The Walking Dead has overstayed it's welcome.

Went in to the shop for Avengers vs. X-Men #2. Was disappointed to learn that it comes out tomorrow. Felt like such a scrub.

ComiXology is having a sale on Garth Ennis stuff, so I picked up the mega-collection of The Boys ($18 for 22 issues ain't bad) and both of his war collections.

I also finished up Morrison's Batman run, including B&R and The Return of Bruce Wayne. I found Batman to be fun on its own, but when you combine it with those other Bat series (oh, and Final Crisis too) you get one wildly ambitious, dense, multi-layered story which is one of the most impressive things he's written. Seriously, B&R #16 was paying off stuff he set up at the beginning of his run on Batman. I'd love to see DC collect it all in a ridiculously oversized HC one day.

Now onto Batman Incorporated...

Oh, and I read the first volume of Mark Waid's Irredeemable. Some great pure storytelling from one of the masters right there.

The Xtreme X-Men concept sounds terrible. Not one character I give a damn about is in that book.

Really liked Exiles and would have prefered a direct continuation of that as long as Claremont didn't get his hands on it. The characters introduced in that recent Astonishing (?) arc felt really throwaway, but we'll see how it develops.

Oh, yeah. I loved Exiles. But what really got me were Blink and Nocturne. I was really into Blink's development in AoA and Nocturne just had a visually appealing look (my fav X-Man is Nightcrawler) and she had neat powers. I think they both got dumped in 616 universe though I haven't paid much attention.

I think Blink is still somehwere between dimensions or whatever, but Nocturne was part of 616 Excalibur at some point. My favorite Exiles character was Morph and I would love to see Mimic done well in a Marvel vs Capcom fighting game.

Blink was just in a few issues of New Mutants. She's in 616.

Looks like DC is going to be having an event next year called 'Trinity War'
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/04/17/dc-comics-bring-trinity-war/

DC Comics To Bring Us The Trinity War Next Year

I understand that DC Comics are planning an “event” next year, entitled The Trinity War.

Presumably referring to Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman. Whether that’s a battle between the three of them, or a battle between them and everyone else, I don’t know. I’m sure it’s much more than that, but it does sound like it’s setting the scene for a very different take on the characters within the New DCU.

Or it could be about a character from the Matrix. Seriously, haven’t a clue. Anyone?

I asked Cullen Bunn if he was really just doing four issues on Wolverine, but he says he's just taking a break for big stupid Jeph Loeb Wolverine sequel nobody wanted to read before continuing with his run. He's done his homework on the character, and he sounds eager to put him through the ringer.

CBR Interview

I notice Marvel is really pushing Cullen Bunn. They gave him Wolverine, they gave him the Captain America team-up book, and now he's co-writing Venom and Captain America with Remender and Brubaker respectively. Who knows if he's taking over those books as well. I'm not very familiar with his work though.

I'm glad they are, the sixth gun is fucking great!
