100 bullets.

Looks interesting. But considering there are a lot of volumes I was wounder up to what volume I should read to know if I really like it? For example Punisher Max really clicked with me at vol 3.

Sandman.

Also Fables. But that has no ending yet. But there is a point you could end at.

Already reading Sandman, but might take a look at Fables. At what volume is that supposed end?

Was once gonna pick this up. Might do it now, then.

It starts transitioning out of its first third pretty gradually from a noiry episodic type story into a very dense, mythology driven long form conspiracy book.

It all fits (gorgeously) together in the end, but you could conceivably love the tone of the early issues and then not like the direction it heads in (probably around the third volume of trades).

Can someone explain to me all of this issue #.1 and issue #.2 stuff going on at Marvel, as I'm really confused by it - why aren't they just counting up in consecutive numbers?

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like

It's mostly total nonsense. The intent was that a .1 issue was going to act as a jumping on point for that series, but they are mostly terrible at this. Mostly they are just shitty one shots that are completely forgettable.

Further complicating matters, when there are further numbers, .1, .2, .3, etc, those have been continuing stories from whatever the last number in the series was. Like Fear Itself continued in the .1-whatever issues. Also the current Venom series is in the middle of a kind of side-story/mini series that started at issue 13 and is going through 13.1, .2, .3, .4 and then finishing in issue 14. It's all incredibly confusing and stupid.

tl;dr: Marvel being Marvel.

How far have you read it so far? And did you start with Punisher Max: Born? :)

Umm yeah I think I started with Born? Was that the one where
the cop dude gets his balls chopped off and placed in a plastic cup?

I just finished The Slavers. Holy crap man. When he threw that woman out the window I was cheering. And the very last panel of the arc literally gave me shivers and I felt depressed. Garth Ennis, man. I may have to check out Preacher just for the fact that he wrote it. Thank god I still have like 40-some issues of Punisher to work through though.

Memorial. It's only on its 4th issue, but it's fantastic. There's a free 10-page preview on Comixology, give it a shot and I'm sure you'll be hooked. Basic synopsis: Girl shows up at a hospital with insomnia, isn't sure who she is or where she came from, spends a year getting her life back together, and then eventually inherits a memorabilia shop that changes locations every day. And the only person who knows what's going on is a talking cat called Schrodinger.

Pretty awesome.

Heh, close. That particular issue is called 'In The Beginning'. Born is sort of a prologue to the whole character of Punisher since it tells about Frank's time in Vietnam. IMHO, very essential and changes certain aspects of the way you look at Punisher. At least that's what it did to me.

And as I vaguely stated a few days ago, Slavers is easily my favourite Punisher-story, because it's just so goddamn visceral and bleak. There's not a sliver of hope in that story but the payoff's satisfying. I'm almost ashamed to admit but very much like you, I was all pumped up when Frank was standing by the window and thinking about how he hadn't hated anyone in a long way as much as them :D Another great story is called Widowmaker, which you'll encounter any time soon.

And yes, Preacher gets praise from me as well. Seeing as you now know, what Garth Ennis is about, that epic is filled to the brim with all of the gore, black comedy, over-the-top writing and bizarre characters.

Well the Sixth Gun involves supernatural, and it's damn fun but there's no ending in sight yet...still it's a great comic. I would recommend it to anyone.

Another great comic is Vertigo's American Vampire. I didn't expect much but I couldn't let go of the trade when I started reading it. I ordered all the other trades the next day. It's only at issue 24, and no ending in sight too.

If I can recommend you one comic, and just one, I would definitely say Locke & Key. It's fucking amazing, there's less than 10 issues left to it's ending, and did I say it's fucking amazing??? The art, the writing, it's all top notch. Seriously, give this series a chance.

Seriously guys, read this comic. It's great. The author is Stephen King's son, and it's as good as anything his dad has written. If I wasn't so lazy I would do a thread about it. It's a damn shame Fox canned to live action series after they did the pilot.

Born isn't one of the better Ennis Punisher stories IMO. Plus that implied supernatural bullshit in it just rubbed me wrong. I expected better from it.

You're better off getting Punisher: From First To Last and reading Tyger which I felt had a better insight into the man who Frank Castle would become given the peek at his home life we see. It's really a very good and underrated story.

The whole collection is really good, including the off the rails Punisher the End story which tells a What If... style final Punisher story.

The writing and characterization in Transformers Robots in Disguise is kind of iffy. Bumblebee is a twat. Characters appear and are never named, or referred to by name, and I'm not the asperger Transformer fan so I don't know who in the fuck this dude is. This is some basic, old school writing shit man.

I'm not talking go full Chris Claremont and every issue make sure the reader knows the character name and a brief summary of their powers (which wasn't bad either), just drop a name for crying out loud.

I'm not sure if I'll stick around for this. The characterization feels odd to me. Not bad, I'm just not cozy with the new portrayal of some of these characters.

YO COMICS GAF! SATCHY AND I CALL DIBS ON MARCH COMICS OT!

WE GONNA ROCK YOU LIKE A McFLURRYCANE!

As we previously discussed, I expect an ode to attractive white females in comics. Also please minimize the text-to-picture ratio. Many thanks.

haven't posted in here in what feels like forever, but christ was Peter panzerfaust great

Can you enlighten me as to what was so great about this issue? Everyone is raving about it and I thought it was a complete turd; the art was shit and the story could have been compressed into 3 pages.

Listen to this guy.

Locke & Key is the most compulsively readable (as in you sit down to read the first issue and then blast through the entire trade in that sitting) comic I've seen since Planetary. It's so fucking good. Even my girlfriend who is new to comics and doesn't really like horror that much is in love with this book.

Is that true? I've held off on trying it because I already feel kinda swamped with current ongoings and my general understanding of the concept made it seem like it could go on forever, but if it has an end in sight, that'll make it easier to pick up.

Yeah, but its closer to 8 issues. There's 3 acts, each act having 2 six issue minis. We're currently in the last act with 2 more issues to go in the first part and the final arc to start and maybe finish before the end of this year

TMNT #7 was great this week
KRANG!

I need to catch up with Empowered someday XD.

I don't think I'll ever read Preacher, one can only stand so much of Ennis' gore, but I do know it's a good book so I'll recommend it whenever I can~

"awful"ly amazing that after all those years slaving away in the business for little monetary and reputative gain, Adam Warren has finally achieved a modicum of success with a wonderful concept like Empowered, which has thus far racked up sales of over 100,000 print copies and continues to be an uproariously funny, sexy and endearing series with one of the most lovable female superheroes in comics today?

I know, right?!? :D :D :D

You hit the submit button before you could finish your post, btw. It happens, I know; sometimes you just get so excited to be posting about Empowered, that your brain's running faster than your fingers can type. The next thing you know, you've gotta hit the "Edit" button.
