Avengers vs X-Men #7 and #8: A few good moments i liked
Namor breaking Red Hulks arm, that was a neat visual
but overall this event is still horrible and we are horrible people for reading it. Eight issues in and its not even a popcorn movie, it's just the popcorn. This is another event that exists to move on to the after-event, with very little thought or desire to tell a good story. If you did not receive a discount on these issues, you've just paid $32 for a book without much of a story and very little action. But hey, maybe the last issue will endcap by Norman Osborn shooting the phoenix in the head and taking over as President.

Worst dialog of the month: Captain America throwing his shield at Namor
when Namor attacks Wakanda
and saying " Shame on you, Namor"

I suspect that Wacker is being a bit disingenuous; considering how recently the project was announced and how much it was being hyped as of just two weeks ago at SDCC, I have to think that there was some sort of behind-the-scenes drama. But who knows?

They probably want to hold off on the Thanos hype machine until we get closer to the release of Guaridans of the Galaxy and Avengers 2. I've noticed Disney/Marvel is trying to get all their divisions (Film, animation, comics) synced together lately.

Been reading uncanny X force and I just finished the apocalypse saga. It was pretty good, this is one of my first comics ever(started superman birthright and supercrooks since i'm a fan of the artist(lienil yu) so it's kinda hard to follow. but I liked the ending of the saga and Opena's art was great(the main reason that I'm even reading comics is to see more artwork by my favorite artists.) . This next arc i'm not sure if i want to read. They changed the artists and I do not like the art much at all. Wolverine looks way ugly. Can anyone tell me if Opena comes back and if i can jump to the issue he returned without much confusion?
When you say Apocalypse Saga, do you mean the first trade or until the end of the Dark Angel Saga? If the former, then Opena does come back in the 3rd/4th trades (Dark Angel Saga Books 1 & 2.) If you don't like crappy art then definitely skip Deathlok Nation and Otherworld trades.

If you're an Opena fan, be sure to check out the Avengers in the Marvel NOW! relaunch as he will be one of the featured artists.

Wowowowow The latest issue of ASM was way too cheesey, felt like a Marvel Kids team up comic.

The brah mentioning Opena on Avengers, he's only doing the first two issues, earliest you'll see hima again is issue 10 will the artisit lineup already announced.

Don't they tell you that in the beginning of each AvsX book? If you want story then pick up Avengers VS X-Men.

Speak for yourself. I am an amazing person and I love this book. My life is filled with joy and happiness and bring those things to the people around me.

AvX has been slightly entertaining, pretty fluff for the past 8 issues. Goes in one ear, out the other, almost completely forgotten about the moment you put the book down. But next issue has the Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine creative team where Spidey saves the day, so here's hoping for something good.

What do you love about this book? Do you just like seeing the characters you like in action and some of the more entertaining moments are enough? I like bits and pieces of AvX overall but it just hasn't come together in any meaningful fashion for me and the twelve issue thing bothers me, i don't think there has been 8 issues worth of content yet. Even the in 7 and 8 with the Avengers "stalling" the x-men for time just rubs me the wrong way, like with Kirkman's Negan speech
playing up how mundane the walking dead as gotten
, it feels like Marvel is stalling in reality because they don't really have any content for this book. The first half of AvX was spent going after hope back and forth back and forth, then they get her and they are stalling the x-men until they know what to do with her. This saga reads like it exists only to set up Marvel Now. Stalling for an ending/continuity shift while making lots and lots of money off the hype.

AvX is already irrelevant and it's not finished. Marvel has showed us what's going to happen with their restructuring of the Avengers and X books. All that we don't know is what "major" character will be killed off, if that.

I didn't read anything with Mysterio in the entire Ultimate Spider-man run, so can anyone answer this about Spider-Men?

Is Ultimate Mysterio really just a robot that Classic Mysterio controls from the old dimension, or is it just a copy that regular-ass Mysterio is using?

Issue 3 was alright but I hope 4 is really good.

I don't agree. I think it's doing a really good job of paying off stuff that's been setup since like Bendis started Avengers PLUS playing up the differences between the two teams and how humankind looks at mutants (thus paying off a lot X-Men storylines).

I don't know. Having read all those books for years, I really enjoy that sort of thing. It might not be as good for someone just checking in to see the next big Marvel thing.

Also, when I close my eyes and think of it, all I see is Copiel's Tony Stark, which is cartooning at such a bravura level that it can sustain even 30 more issues of nothing else happening.

But that doesn't make me an awful person, sorry to burst your bubble. I am the best.

Yup. We know what's going to happen to the Phoenix and Utopia and the Phoenix Five and the Iron Fist and...

Oh, no, wait....

I just realized that's a completely wrong hypothesis.

Guys, I love Birdie to death, but he also really liked Fear Itself when everyone else in the known world thought it was a pretty piece of shit. Just have to keep that in mind that it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

We definitely disagree on most everything AvX related, but the horrible person stuff was hyperbole, i don't begrudge people who like AvX....much. Art does never save a book for me, i'll always think " this art is amazing, if only it was in a story that was good" or i'd want to buy an art book of that artist. And i did remember you liked Fear Itself *runs*

I do think the actual story is great. Flipping the script on The Avengers and making them hated and feared is fantastic.

(And I don't think you actually think I'm horrible.)

Was the " people hate the Avengers now" stuff in other tie-ins? I didn't get much of a sense of that outside of Cyclops saying it to be fact.

None of that matters. That's what sucks about this. And don't you mean "Phoenix Four" now?

I also love that we had a trilogy focusing on Hope over the years, building the character up to be someone important, then Marvel trolls us and makes the character irrelevant after the Phoenix chooses its current hosts.

I'm NOT saying that the character couldn't come back and play an extremely-important role at the end of the storyline, just that the last number of comics and tie-in books have had no or almost-no focus on her whatsoever, and what they've done with the Kun-Lun backstory in New Avengers felt pointless after you had the AvX books showing who was chosen.

They also have Magik shown to be particularly-brutal with her Phoenix-enhanced methods of dealing with the Avengers in one tie-in book, but nothing is mentioned about it elsewhere. I've found most of the tie-in stories much-more interesting than the main AvX book has been.

Man this Lemire brah turns everything to gold. He legitimized JLD in one issue and has made it a top five book in three. Write a Lagoon Boy ongoing next please brah.

Eight issues in and its not even a popcorn movie, it's just the popcorn.

Heh.

Heresy, JLD was already a fun book before Lemire came on.

True, but Lemire's taken it to another level. It's easily the most fun thing I've read from him, and my favourite DC book right now alongside Swamp Thing (which has really come along). Milligan had everybody saying Constantine was a bastard but then he just acted like a regular superhero all the time with maybe a little more complaining. Lemire actually nails the bastard part.

Why would you think all that's irrelevant considering where they're keeping and training Hope?

Guys I need some advice on which ongoing DC/Marvel titles I should read.

I am currently following Batman and Uncanny X-Force and absolutely love these them. I used to follow alot more comics, especially after DC started with New 52, but got burned out some time ago (around march) and stopped reading the majority of the comics apart from the titles I mentioned.

The DC comics I used to follow apart from Batman were Dedective Comics (which went downhill after the first arc imo), Batman: The Dark Knight (didnt enjoy the first issues at all), Justice League and Justice League Dark. I am thinking of giving Justice League another chance and was wondering if you guys are reading it/enjoying it at the moment. I might also start reading Justice League Dark, since I actually enjoyed it far more than the regular Justice League before I stopped reading them. I'm not really a fan of other DC characters so that's the reason I haven't given them a chance.

When it comes to Marvel comics, I've was thinking about reading Uncanny X-Men and even picked up the first issue, but didn't continue since I heard that it was going to get canceled. I tried to get into Wolverine & the X-Men, but I believe that it isn't really my thing. I'm thinking about giving Avengers or Secret Avengers a chance too, but cant really decide if it's worth the time. I know that Remender has taken over Secret Avengers, but don't know if the title has been as entertaining as X-Force. I am also interested in All-New X-Men and Uncanny Avengers (since Remender will be writing it too) which will come out in a few months.

I guess I'll start with picking up the Avengers vs. X-Men comics since it seems to be the big thing going on in the Marvel universe. I'd love to read your suggestions and hear about what you think of the titles I mentioned since I am mostly interested in those at the moment.

I am also really tired and will be going to bed now.

Do you guys care or get turned off to a comic if the art isn't to your liking? I've been reading X-Force vol 2 and I just don't like Clayton Crain's work. It's off-putting and I'm considering just jumping straight into Uncanny X-Force now.

I care, but if the story is good enough i'll keep reading, like in FF/Fantastic Four when it goes through a bunch of different artists every issue and i dont' like a few of them, or Uncanny X-Force has the same problem.

Of course, comics are a visual medium so the art is certainly important. Sometimes only strong writing or strong art will be enough, but the best stuff has both.

The main AvX storyline feels like it's been the same filler story for the past few months. The tie-in comics have been much more interesting reads.

Sure, but if the story is still good enough, I'll stick with it and hope that another artist comes on board.

Same fil -- Namor got depowered and Xavier is all --

You know what, forget it. You don't like it. I do. Everything you're complaining about has been addressed in the actual comic. You don't like it, that's fine, but I'm not going to point out what's actually in the comic. That's what the comic is for.

AvX is absolute shit. End of story. That's the problem with marvel they are always hyping up whats coming a couple months ahead of time but never focusing on making their stories strong enough in the present.

Can we talk about how Cray-zay Morning Glories is? Stop making so much sense.

New Avengers' Iron Fist tie-in was pretty boss, but ultimately didn't mean shit. The rest is just lame. Marvel events are getting worse and worse.

Does anybody know anything about this "Comic Store Heroes" show? Seems like it'd be an interesting watch but I can't seem to find the full first episode online or really anything besides the trailer.

I just didn't want to sound like a comic snob (which I am far from). I don't expect everything to be Jim Lee quality but sometimes I question what companies were thinking with certain art directions.

Can we talk about how Cray-zay Morning Glories is? Stop making so much sense.

The latest issue at least gave us more insight into Miss Hodge and Miss Daramount. I know it's pretty wacky but I am hopelessly addicted.

YOU CRASY! His art is amazing.

Overall it may be, but his work on X-Force isn't appealing to me.

well not really...yet

If the art is shit, the comic isn't worth reading
