Awesome - there's already some interest from you lovely people, so I'll start drafting up a thread, which I'll try to have ready to post this weekend. If anyone has an suggestions they're more than welcome - please PM me.

I'm down to start with something like All Star Superman, maybe something longer like From Hell. If you guys want to do something more obscure, that would be cool too.

Down for this comic bookclub idea. Good way to steer away from just speaking about the Big Two's books and for getting others involved in this wonderful medium (possibly).

i have a touchpad and i want something HD-er, so now i have a choice between being armlocked into a really expensive apple ipad. If the build quality is solid on the fire hd i'll probably go with that.

Gotcha and you should jump once build quality is confirmed. HD comic on Comixology are gorgeous.

The Hawkeye pic I posted yesterday was a screencap from my iphone and then compressed by photobucket. On my ipad, the same pic was probably cleaner than even in my floppy copy.

Also, I wouldn't mind the comic club as I usually read manga (though I've been lazy with Bakuman & Silver Spoon) and occasionally from the Big Two (UXF I read via trades and Hawkeye is the only monthly for me after I kinda stopped with nu52). I used to read Powers back in the day but stopped once it was on a break and never picked up again after it started up again.

speaking of HD comics, i might have to wait for Comixlogy to confirm that hd comics will be on Amazon HD Fire too?

If the app is available (I'm assuming it is), once you launch the app you can usually see a little logo on the bottom of the cover saying that it's in HD, at least it does on the ipad version.

No experience with the other tablets, but I'd guess it's similar for some of the Android tablets as well.

Ya I'd really be interested if it was more about smaller books that don't get a ton of buzz.

The comic book club sounds cool. I don't see anything wrong with featuring longer stories like 100 Bullets at times, but you would probably have to limit it to the first trade. People who enjoy that can pick up the rest if they want. The podcast Comic Geek Speak used to do a book of the month club when I still listened to them. I liked how they would rotate their focus depending on the month. Like, month 1 was Marvel, Month 2 was Independent, and Month 3 was DC. Maybe do something like that, but make it even less big 2 superhero focused?

Like:

Month 1 - Superhero (Marvel/DC or Creator Owned)
Month 2 - Crime or Espionage
Month 3 - Sci Fi
Month 4 - Horror
Month 5 - Fantasy
Month 6 - Miscellaneous

People would need time to buy the right book, so I would make it either monthly or bi-weekly.

If you want some suggestions for non-superhero stuff, I'd recommend Queen and Country, Scalped, Essex County, and Lone Wolf and Cub. Some of those may be out of print though.

New Teaser.
Most likely Punisher

Yeah, I wouldn't want to do a whole run because that's a lot of time to put into one thing.
Definitely agree on keeping things varied - there's a lot of variety out there so absolutely no need to bury ourselves in.

I'd also be interested in the comic book reading club. I've been getting back into comics in a big way the last few months after quitting around Secret Invasion.

If we're doing themed months, I'll shout for IDW's Dungeons & Dragons series in the fantasy month.

Yeah, we do need time to pick it up. So maybe the first week will just be us deciding the schematics, whether it's themes or whatnot.

damn I want to switch up to the hd one...

both versions also include.....ads on the lock screen and the bottom left corner of the home page. This bugs me a lot since i like to put comic art on my homescreen and don't want it cluttered with ads :(

Unrelated:

New Guardians #12: Well that's over.

Invincible # 94: Did not see that ending coming, still didn't really like how Kirkman handled Monster Girl and Robot's story arc though , but i did like the ending of this issue and the previous one.

Earth 2 #4: a little better than the previous issues because it doesn't have several pages of awful " you must be the hero!" speeches. Not sure if i'm continuing though. The book does feel unique though in the DC Universe.

I'll reserve judgment until all four issues are out but Space Punisher might be the best comic of all time.

Sounds like the later years of Smallville to me, focusing on Wonder Woman when she's just starting out the hero thing. Probably has a better chance on CW than it did on NBC since they've had success with both shows starring female protagonists and genre stuff. Hopefully, they learned from the disaster of the NBC pilot.
And budget constraints won't allow Greek mythology shit! We may see Diana in every episode.!

Hold on there, brah. They could do them Azz style, wearing suits and dresses and shit. lol

Also, TV Steve Trevor better be awesome. (Justice League has made me fall in love with him)

Don't do that to me brah, I don't to see Smallville style cosplay every episode. And I hate to go all bleeding cool up in here, but I have a pretty good feeling the Fourth Wave will be announced tomorrow.

Funny you say Smallville-style cosplay, because I totally see Diana's suit in the show being something like Wonder Girl's (cause let's face it: that's what her suit is. lol)

IDW is re-releasing Torpedo in softcover format.

I'm a hunka hunka Bernet love!

That's how you draw comics people!

Planetoid is pretty awesome. Fun story and good art! It's like Image publishing a Heavy Metal book.

Saga is getting dropped. See above Bernet examples, then reference what they're trying to perpetrate as comic art in this book. If your page can't survive sans a healthy dose of Photoshop I'm not interested. Story just fluctuates from fun to dry far too often for my liking.

Avengers 1959 = Comic books colored for tablet devices. Shit is too damn dark on the printed page. Editors keep your colorists in check!

Neonomicon - Had to stop reading it. It's a bummer Alan Moore has to slum it with D-list cartoonists. :(

Saga of the Swamp Thing - I rejected Moore's take on Swamp Thing as a kid because I liked the story of the man trapped in the body of a monster, plus you couldn't beat the Wein / Wrightson run. Age has mellowed me a bit and I can now appreciate what Moore did with Swamp Thing, proving you can do interesting stuff when you turn the status quo on it's ear.

Godzilla The Half Century War - Wow! It's not Arthur Adams, but Stokoe delivers the goods even if some of the dialogue is mildly anachronistic.

Archer & Armstrong - Interesting. A little too political to follow in single issues, but trade may be an interesting read.

Big money (for a) side gig on the table if I don't fuck this up. Possibly available at a (REDACTED) near you! Commissions on hold for the time being. Folks in queue will be handled in order received. :(

I'm liking the book club idea, and this format looks good. A variety of genre is real good idea. I'd like to see a mix of old and new too.
Maybe one or two trades per month, or a miniseries, or a story arc.
Perhaps IamMikeside could pick 3 choices for each next month and we could PM a vote.

Comixology sale! Morning glories! Gladstone's school for world conquerors' , and Strange tales of luthor strode.

Buy buy buy

Sounds good to me - The thread will be up over the weekend, I'll link it here and there'll be a week to vote for our first read :)

I agree, that's a great sale!

Also, I ended up liking Green Lantern #12 more than the Annual. I am finding it hard to get behind the guardians, or even relate to their thought patterns anymore.

That's the point, you're not supposed to relate to the Guardians or get behind them. At this point they're no better than Krona.

Are the Omnibuses from Marvel the Oversized pages, or just regular height? I saw some video on the Invisibles Omnibus and it's the same height...

You never know. He might have like some kind of stroke and forget the last decade and be able to draw fun cartoon comic books again! The next big thing in comics isn't rebooting the books themselves, but the actual brains of their dubious creative team members.

I like Larroca. :'( Then again I got back into comics with Claremont's xtreme xmen so I have a soft spot for him.
