Just bought The Invisibles Omnibus. Jedeye Sniv I am holding you responsible if it doesn't live up to the hype. 1500 pages for $85 is not a bad deal though.

ha :p it is really really good. It goes places. Bear in mind that I read it at about age 16 and it blew my mind. Have you got the book yet? How ... wieldy is it?

Boy I hate reading comic book threads on GAF outside this thread. All the pretentious annoying elitist OT posters come out of the woodwork

I completely agree. Reading other forums about the Havok/Remender kerfuffle made me want to stab my eyes out. You can sort most of the people on those forums into two types: insufferable elitist too cool for school types, and then people who will write 10,000 words (sans paragraphs and spacing) about how Dazzler was written out of character based on something that happened in 1982 but don't know who their congressman is.

Dazzler is my congresswoman.

Also, reading Uncanny X-Men 1-3 now and i'm not following what's going on.
Why did Magneto have his powers lessened? My understanding was that the phoenix five had their powers mess up after the phoenix force left them as an aftershock, but Magneto wasn't a part of that soooooooo when did this happen/why?

Pretty sure some of that was explained (poorly) in All New X-Men before Uncanny launched. Basically Cyclops messed up their powers some how. It's just a plot device.

with that i checked through All New #3 since it had Scott on the cover instead of x-babies, the "explanation" was there.

Uncanny X-Men #3, Bendis couldn't resist his pompous grandstanding dialog between cap and scott that he fell in love with in AvX. Shame on you captain america! SHAME!

Come to think of it, the fact that there isn't a "new mutants" book full of people who will be forgotten by the time a new "new mutants" book comes out is p disappointing imo.

Mutants newer than the Claremont era of X-Men are just cannon fodder. I think X-Fans accept this fact by now.

His new mutants are so bad, I don't know how I could actively dislike them within 4 issues but he's managed it.

Just pretend they are all of spider-man's children gathered up from parallel earths. I prefer Aaron's take at having a mutant cast in WATXM. It's diverse and interesting.

Scott Summers only cares about saving the pretty mutants; he'd never try to recruit an Eyeboy or a Sharktits.

Watch, Illyana's gonna end up with goat legs again after this next arc, and Cyke's gonna kick her out of the band.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I wasn't aware there were multiple new mutants in Uncanny and not some fusion of Bendis and Multiple Man to explain why they all have the exact same grating fucking "back and forth" speak. New Xavier School is the special school to Jean Grey's School For Genuinely Gifted Youngsters.

I wonder how this Captain America arc is going to end. Remenders gone pretty hogwild with it, which I've enjoyed but the BACK TO REALITY moment is soon a'coming...

I get into comics every once in a while and then I realize how expensive it is and then I usually lose interest after a while since I feel the need to really start fresh with a series. but sometimes it can be a bit confusing where some of the more popular series start (Superman, Batman, etc...)

With that said I am interested in the new 52 stuff since it started recently. And I feel like I can realistically start fresh with these.

Is the new 52 basically just a reboot of the DC comics line? Do they still publish Justice League, Batman, etc... outside of the new 52 series.

With that said what are some of the best New 52 comics? I bought the first issues for Justice League, Aquaman, Detective and Action comics on Comixology. Comics seem alot shorter that I remember them.

The New52 reset everything. As for what to read, Batman. That's all you need to know.

Aquaman is a bright spot in an otherwise bland line of rebooted super heroes with generic stories dictated by DC editors. (Outside of the usual suspects, Batman etc)

Besides the bat titles, I would say Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Earth 2.

Also the first 8 issues of Deathstroke, or before whatever issue it was that Liefield took over.

I find Wonder Woman is the best you can go with. It has no crossovers with other books and has an amazing story that requires little to no background knowledge on the character.
Batman, B&R, Dial H, Batwoman and Aquaman are also superb.

For Batman, no.
It was just a compression of his timeline, with most other details just pick and choose.

Nu52
-Originally was going to be a complete reset.
-Changed it to "mostly a reboot with a few things carried over."
-Then it became "we really don't know wtf we're doing, but you'll buy it anyway so fuck it."

I dunno, I'm kinda liking Uncanny X-Men because of the new people, or at least the gold balls guy.

I'm new to getting back into comics, so I'm catching up, but the new Captain America is bad ass! Each issue (I just finished #3) ends in a cliffhanger. Loving it so far, I hope it keeps it up.

The biggest thing that didn't get touched in the reboot was Green Lantern. Probably because there was so much shit in the last volume that Geoff Johns would have cried. But I think they should have anyway. I mean, did they ever explain how it was that Sinestro was suddenly a GL again?

Oh man, I've been catching up on Daredevil after seeing it recommended here and just got to issue 9. I can't believe that they have
Daredevil sniffing his fingers after talking about being with Black Cat
. Amazing, haha. Second best thing after "Look! It's Red Batman!"

I really want to start reading this. How much of it is out in trade, and how many floppies would I need to buy to catch up?

Whatever you do, don't buy any more issues of Detective. Get Batgirl instead.

i have a feeling Dimension Z is a hyperbolic timechamber and the 10 years cap spends there is going to be like 10 minutes or 10 hours in the real world.

Four trades so far, I think:
Volume 1 (#1-6)
Volume 2 (#7-10, 10.1, ASM677)
Volume 3 (#11-15, AvSM6, Punisher #10)
Volume 4 (#16-21)

It's up to issue 25 now. I'm reading the trades and enoying it quite a bit.

Detective Comics #1 actually seems like it was meant to be the most important comic of the relaunch considering there still creating plots out of that issue (Death of the family, Joker's Daughter, etc.)

I've also seen also an oversized volume one that includes the content of the first two hardcovers.

#1 was ok as it goes, but the Joker plot is dropped quickly and an incomprehensible Penguin story starts up after that.

I don't keep up on GL but weren't they hinting at Sinestro going back to GL corps pre nu52?

Esad Ribic on Thor is just..... no words

Love seeing Avengers taking on X-men foes and vice versa in Uncanny Avengers

Read Cap, shit is killer, reminds me of something Kirby would do in terms of the world building

Please buy JiM, art is fantastic, don't want it cancelled

Yep, exactly. I am kinda figuring him finally going back down the tunnel and it'll be like he never left, at least to those back in the real world.

I like Uncanny X-Men. The gold balls guy is kind of a one-note character IMO, but I like that Australian girl. The real problem for me is that Emma Frost (who is just a regular person with no powers now?) and Illyana have the exact same costume.

I haven't seen that lady, is she in Uncanny? I haven't gotten #4 yet.

It's my first and only X-Men book, so I have nothing to compare it to, but the whole thing feels like a soap opera. Everyone has crazy superpowers, but they don't use those, they just argue.

Psht, just because they're both blondes dressed in black with thigh high boots and belted underwear doesn't mean their costumes are the same. The boob windows are completely different! (And Mastermind has bare shoulders! And leggings!) :p

As for the powers though, the plot only broke Emma's psychic skills. Her diamond form should be fine.

She's not in uncanny (yet?) but she is around. She's been in ANXM recently.

You should read All-New X-Men as well. Many feel it's the better of the two, but they also complement each other. If you only read one or the other, you're going to be left with some blanks.

Welcome to the X-Men. Also Bendis. He writes in a really decompressed manner, it can be fun if he does it right, but still really slow. Judging from solicits Uncanny X-Men is going to get pretty awesome soon enough.

This too. You really need to read both.

I'm enjoying it too. Scott and Emma's talk in #2 was a cool moment, I always enjoy to see how their powers can affect the smaller details in a relationship. I'm looking forward to whatever is going on with Illyana too. The new kids have potential I think, but I have to say I rolled my eyes at the "POINK is the new BAMF" title, how about earning it with an interesting character before making the gimmick intentions too obvious.

Magneto controlling the Danger Room with an iPhone in #4 was pretty funny. The book totally feels like an optional companion to ANXM for now though, we'll see where it goes from here.

Their new suits all suck unfortunately, Cyclops new "visor" doesn't make sense and doesn't look good, sleeveless Mags looks dumb, and so son. Hopefully they're short lived.
