Yeah Bachalo owns but sometimes he phones it in on panels where people are just standing around doing nothing, his strength really lies in more hectic pieces and scenes where he can cram a ton of details (which I'm hoping becomes the case for Uncanny more often, the sentinels were a nice start).

Reading Journey Into Mystery now on MU, i'd probably have thought better of Fear Itself had i read JiM at the same time....and if Fear Itself sucked less. 626.1 was a horrible issue though.

I love Bachalo (even read Uncanny X-Men #1 for him) but he has Jim Lee-syndrome where he can't design a costume to save his life.

Nu52
-Originally was going to be a complete reset.
-Changed it to "mostly a reboot with a few things carried over."
-Then it became "we really don't know wtf we're doing, but you'll buy it anyway so fuck it."

Actually, most indications are that it was merely intended to be a relaunch with a few continuity tweaks, and only became something close to a full reboot not long before it was announced.

How would you guys rank the Spiderman 'runs' based on the author?
I'm reading JMS' run right now and really loving it with how fun Peter is.

JMS/JRJR run is really good I think, if you can swallow the whole Spider-Totem thing. He gets rid of most of the supporting cast and rogues, but he makes some fun new additions, and his Aunt May/MJ are THE BEST. Seriously, his MJ-Peter stuff made me believe in that marriage.

His Peter is really good, too. Funny, charming, intelligent, adult, selfless, caring, flawed as hell; I love Dan Slott's current run, but his Peter seems like a child in comparison

FF is Future Foundation, or Fantastic Four?
Hawkeye #1 was fantastic, for sure!

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll read Saga and East of West.

Future Foundation. Although Fraction writes both FF and Fantastic Four, and FF branches out from the premise of Fantastic Four ( you won't be lost if you read FF but not Fantastic Four so far, 4 issues in), FF is great whereas Fantastic Four is very bland/bad.

Future Foundation is fun and crazy, kind of like Hawkeye, how waid's daredevil started, or the better parts of Aaron's Wolverine and the X-Men, whereas Fantastic Four doesn't have any of that charm and feels basic and uninteresting so far.

The Spider Totem thing never bothered me tbh and I found it an interesting twist to his powers. If anything, it seems more that Peter never cared about it nor let it get to him.
This run may just have my fav. JR Jr. art too.

I like Romita, Jr. quite a bit (more than most people, I think?) but my favourite is still Man Without Fear. Cap looks fucking great though, and has got the best script he's worked on for a while. Dug his WWH stuff too, which was pretty much the only good thing about it.

Huh, given all the horror stories I've heard of his Superman run and the like, I've usually assumed the worst of JMS, or at least of his more recent work. How long ago was this run?

Oh, don't worry. There's plenty to shit on in his Spider-Man run too. It was during the days of NuMarvel - 2001ish - and ended with One More Day about 5 years ago.

If you skip issues 509-514 and stop at 543, it's actually quite a good run.

Just forget those issues I mentioned exist and you'll be fine

Actually, speaking of Man Without Fear: Remender is totally channeling Miller in Cap. The latest issue is pretty much him doing Man Without Fear's last issue.

Yea I like Bachalo's more action oriented stuff, but when he has to draw characters standing it's like how I use to draw when I was a kid...feet pointing down....like the ankles broke or something.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Batman #12 - what's that thing that Batman shoots out when he's on the boat fighting Tiger Shark? I couldn't figure out what it was or what, if anything, it did. It was like a projectile airbag or something.

No Scrubs
Oh the Sins Past arc? I rather liked that, will give them a re read again to see if my stance on it changed.

Honestly the runs sort of falls apart for me after Romita Jr leaves the book. Everything after that and the magic shit, I just don't like. JMS does a good job with the characters, but like 60% of the stories aren't any fun for me.

Whatever you do, don't buy any more issues of Detective. Get Batgirl instead.

This is a bummer, I actually enjoyed Detective #1. Im just buying a bunch of New 52 #1's on comixology and will then stick with a few for now and catch up on the rest later. Will definitly be continuing to get Aquaman and Justice League though.

No matter what people say about certain series read what you enjoy.

To your previous post; Comics can be pricey once you start getting in deep. Best bet is to give yourself a budget per week and stick to it. If you don't mind being a month behind, digitally, you can get DC's books for $1 less, which could afford you an extra couple series.

Books have lost a page or two over the years if I am not mistaken.

As also mentioned read what you like: opinions are valuable but in the end if you enjoy it, it is worth your time and money.

This is going a bit off-topic, but I'd just like to say how much I've appreciated reading through this thread. Some of the other shit I've seen in other places makes me want to punch someone in their teeth. Nothing "company vs company" related, just dumb classless shit. I'm glad there's none of that here.

Yeah, I agree. I came into this thread a while back asking for recommendations, twice actually, and both times I got people giving genuine advice that was really helpful. As I've stayed in the thread I've seen how that happens a lot, and each time there's always people happy to recommend stuff, always being inclusive rather than pushing away people who are new to comics or have taken a break and are trying to come back. It's great. Not only that but I never feel like I can't join in the discussion that goes on around all that, even when I've not been following the actual comics for as long. Good people, here.

Welcome to the X-Men. Also Bendis. He writes in a really decompressed manner, it can be fun if he does it right, but still really slow. Judging from solicits Uncanny X-Men is going to get pretty awesome soon enough.

This too. You really need to read both.

ANXM and UXM definitely have to be read together, otherwise the books make no sense. Great for profits, but I don't understand why they don't combine it into a single book :/

Also, as much as SSM gets a lot of flak, it's superior (lol) to the xmen books because significant plot points get resolved every issue. There's clear development and change at the end of every book, which is more than what I can say for UXM.

So I decided to try out the first three issues of Cable and the X-Force, and I actually like it. The lol-worthy costume redesigns from the original promo art are given tongue-in-cheek explanations in book, and I am interested to see where the story is heading. I don't even mind Larroca's art that much in this title. Definitely going to grab the other 4 issues out and decided after that if I want to continue the series monthly.

Is World War Hulk worth reading when you just read the 5 main issues?

It looks interesting but I don't really wont to buy all those extra ones just to make sense of the story.

"Worth reading"? Arguable - the nature of the shared universe means the most logical/satisfying outcome, that the Hulk just fuckin' kills everyone... doesn't happen. "Readable"? Yeah, more or less. It's just got Planet Hulk in the background which basically has the end result of "Hulk is pissed off at the Illuminati."

Ah, thx. I think I'll grab it.

As to your first comment, you answered your own question - profits. Plus, I guess Bendis has a lot of content he wants to get across.

As for Superior Spider-Man, I've been enjpying it so far, and I don't quite understand why some people dislike it as much as they do. At least Marvel is trying something different with it.

i have a feeling Dimension Z is a hyperbolic timechamber and the 10 years cap spends there is going to be like 10 minutes or 10 hours in the real world.

Yeah but Cap has aged that time. I either think that the Cap we've been following is a clone-or there's some kind of timey wimey mumbo jumbo going on. His body is all fucked up.
