I was reading some books regularly before I started college, at which point buying comics became a luxury beyond my means. I was balls deep in Blackest Night, reading every book under that heading (at the begrudging of my wallet) but wasn't able to finish before getting to college.?

New 52 Green Lantern is relatively unchanged by the reboot so you could dive into any of the current series (Green Lantern, GL: Corps, New Guardians, or Red Lanterns) relatively easily.

Wasn't too impressed overall with it. Pretty mediocre with the exception of issue #13 which is one of the best single Supes issues I've ever read.

I thought Action #9, President Supes, was the zenith of the run. That issue was incredible for the sheer amount of logic and rationalization that went into "what would the paramount influences be on a black Supes". It's a single issue that's smarter and more well thought out than entire runs of comics and it provides the briefest look into an incredibly interesting parallel universe.

Man, I thought they were going to go somewhere really interesting with this Iron Man arc but then
it turns out no, it won't centre around him paying for "killing" the Phoenix Force but instead he was just being used to allow for an easy genocide for TBD.

So, DC has apparently decided to bring back fan-favourite character and daughter of the Joker Duela Dent back into mainstream New 52 continuity.

This being 2013 DC, things inevitably get hilariously fucked up in the most ridiculous comedy of errors and terrible design possible.

Peep at this shit and tell me it's not silly as fuck.

edit: OF COURSE IT ALREADY HAD ITS OWN THREAD. FUCK. But seriously, THIS IS FUCKING TERRIBLE AND EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE IT.

I already slammed my head against the wall for an hour over this. So fucking dumb, this eclipses all other dumb comics shit.

Next week is the real deal, wow

I think I counted 12 books that I am picking up between Marvel, DC, and Image.

Not sure why Marvel scheduled every single Avengers title to ship in the same week. Well, I guess Avengers Assemble and Secret Avengers shipped this week, but still. 6 Avengers books (counting A + X) in one week is overkill!

What is the general consensus here of Marvel Unlimited on iPad?
A huge back catalogue for only $60 a year is mighty attractive, though I hear the app is bad?

Nova was cool. Still cant seem to care about avengers. This whole arc has been very Claremont-ish and not in a good way imo.

The app isn't great, but it's not bad bad bad bad. The main faults i have with it is the lack of a full screen viewing mode, which is ridiculous, and some gap between issues of a series. Two weeks ago they made a massive update fixing a few of those gaps, but there are still some.

If you can get over not having a fullscreen mode, there is a lotttttttttttttttttt of good content.

Hmmm, thanks for the info, I think I will sub for a year. Just tried reading one of the free comics. It's acceptable enough to read. The amount of comics available makes it worth it. I never keep up with new comics so the 6 month delay sounds fine with me.

Hopefully there are more improvements to the app since it only came out a month ago.

Also yeah, hopefully there aren't heaps of gaps anymore. I want to be able to finish most of the story arcs at least. I don't even know how gaps can happen when they're uploading a series.><

MU has the full 12 issue Nextwave series available, the best "funnest" Marvel comic in years.

Will read!

I'll be following this thread to start: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=421242

Just need some recommendations for anything good in 2011-2012 that might be on MU.

that's a good thread, i wasn't aware they had the full Whedon Astonishing run up there, that was fantastic. Ultimates 1 and 2 as well, several other books up there they recommend.

I'm currently reading Kieron Gillen's recent Journey into Mystery Loki focused run from last year, they have almost all of it up now outside of the very last issues of the Mighty Thor/JiM crossover finale, they even put up the exhiled one shot and new mutants crossover JiM arc.

Yeah first impressions is that the search is pretty borked. Couldn't find Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane with the in-app search so I had to look it up on the marvel website from my browser, then add it to my library, then it would appear on my iPad. Though I'm pretty happy I can now read Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane on my iPad!

Who was that dude?

In the Preview?
Terrax from last issue.

Beaten!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised given the types of characters Hickman seems to gravitate towards, but New Avengers is way better than regular Avengers. I have liked a few issues, but I'd say that Avengers is now behind Uncanny Avengers and Avengers Arena for me. Young Avengers hasn't been out long enough to judge. The others I don't read.

FF and Hawkguy are close but I have to give the nod to Hawkguy. Love that damn book. FF is definitely amazing too. Hawkguy readers who aren't picking up FF are FUCKING UP.

Just bought The Invisibles Omnibus. Jedeye Sniv I am holding you responsible if it doesn't live up to the hype. 1500 pages for $85 is not a bad deal though.

Have you read any other Morrison? It's a hell of a series, and it definitely requires an investment on the reader's part, but shit, it's some incredible stuff.

I have the massive fridge of a book sitting at home, but I haven't gone through this version and I'm curious as to whether the original letters sections made it in. Those are (were) super illuminating when read in conjunction with the issues. Especially the worldwide call to masturbate in order to charge a magik sigil that would improve sales over Thanksgiving.

Not really. I read WE3 a couple months ago. I like weird/avant garde kinds of books though. It's not a comic book, but I just finished House of Leaves last week. I can't imagine anything being harder to get through than that.

I hope the letters are in it.

It's prob. because I'm a Morrison fanboy but I liked his Action Comics run a lot.

Right so I'm reading Simonson's Thor run but so far it hasn't 'clicked' with me, as in it's not keeping me interested a lot sad to say. I understand this is considered THE Thor run, but I'm still willing to keep on reading and seeing if I'll like it.
One thing I did like though was seeing Nick Fury being so cheerful and actually smiling, he's been grumpy in just about every comic I've seen him in since Bendis' Secret War.

If the Simonson run doesn't work with me I'll re-read JMS' Spiderman or Peter David's Hulk run.

So six issues in to Fractions Fantastic Four, I really can't get in to it at all.
I'm going to have to cull it from my list as it doesn't seem to be heading anywhere.
Reading FF as well but not finding it to be anything amazing either, may soon be culled.
