Sad that my LCS was shorted on East of West #2 so gotta hunt for that along with FF#2. But I got stuff today lol.
Do you have a pull list? I got mine, picked up my stuff around 2.

Also their new sign is so amazing. Spidey and "collectibles" isn't spelled "collectables" anymore.

Jesus Christ-if things weren't bad enough in Uncanny Avengers with OnslaughtRedSkull coming to kill everyone "soon" this new issue introduces a new threat that makes that seem paltry.

Gotta tell you guys, I reread Uncanny X-Men just now and I'm really liking this issue.
They realize there's a problem, that there is someone who can fix it and decide to go there
. I mean, it's refreshing that they actually thought of it. That said, shit's getting real and it's fun.

Matrix

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.
wtf now Mark Andrew Smith is inviting me to like pages and shit on facebook. I wish I never backed his kickstarter. He's like a stalker.

Yea, it's nice, but it's a huge tonal shift from the first few issues.
Going from Mutant revolution to demonic possession is quite different.

Don't get me wrong, I like where it's going. And I really dug the art in this issue a lot.

So. Eh.

Jupiter's Legacy
Just a bunch of talking heads standing around talking? Kind of disappointing on the art front, like the preview suggested

GotG #2 was excellent, except for Rocket's "catchphrase". This is Bendis's new thing I guess. He keeps trying to give those annoying kids in Uncanny X-Men catchphrases.

Yah, Derek was short for even the Pull Lists. Overshipped New Avengers & undershipped East of West. I don't pick up until 6:30p or so.

That sucks. East of West was so good.

I'll bet. Hopefully I can locate a copy... I was looking forward to reading it.

Got these at least:

today was the last day to update your dcbs pre-order manually...i caved and added:

GLC #21, New Guardians #21 to see how the new team does
Fatale #15
Superman Unchained combo

skipped Wake #2 for now, might trade wait, Uncanny X-Force until i see if 1-5 sell on ebay, and skipped Batman Superman #1 altogether since it's pricey and i'm not that interested. Also skipped Inhumans OHC and Daredevil End of Days OHC for now, even though bother are half off. Maybe Daredevil will end up on Marvel Unlimited and i have the paperback unread for Inhumans. Marshal Law Deluxe Edition was the only collection i got this month :O

The art in FF was actually really good. Baxter Building layout was too legit.

Oh man that was amazingly cool. I was just like, wow.

Deadpool continues to be funny and good. It looks like we've traded dueling narration boxes for
a sassy black woman
. I am a little disappointed that we aren't getting as much Ben Franklin as we did in the Dead Presidents arc. Glad he's sticking around though.

I just read Avengers#10 and I don't understand what the hell just happened.

It was part of the aftermath of Ex Nihilo and what he did in issue 1. Another team went in, got fucked so the Avengers went in after them. Apparently it showed them
their own evolutions over the next 30 years
. Other than that I think it'll eventually tie into the events in New Avengers,
if one of the solutions is destroying the Earth then it might make sense that fundamentally changing it may be a solution as well. Ex Nihilo may have been inadvertently fighting the incursions.
Of course we don't have nearly enough info so I'm just grasping at straws for that last comment.

I just don't understand the time frame issue I guess-and the whole
evolution scene. Did it really happen or was it like a vision? Why was there so much footage and how was the footage in different time periods?

East of West #2 was great. Is this book a lot more pages than most comics, or does it just feel that way?

Do you guys recommend anything by that Mark Millar guy? There was an interview/ad for him and Jupiter's Legacy at the end, and now I see talk about him in here.

I don't have anything against digital comics, but I am always going to be a print person. I get way more satisfaction out of it. It sucks that it inconveniences people, but if he's willing to give up a lot of potential sales in support of print I think that is pretty respectable.

if digital weren't insanely priced i could see myself going digital only and forgetting about selling my print issues when done. I was just thinking about how i'm several months behind on some titles and if i were digital only, i'd only buy books when i was ready to read an issue and i wouldn't have a pile of singles all the time.

When I started buying digital I found my tolerance for B-grade crap fell through the floor as well. It's a lot harder to justify Good Solid Comics when you see them priced individually.

Alright chaps. Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good/overlooked standalone graphic novels. I'm thinking more along the lines of an original story in long form like Ghost World, Maus etc rather than something that's collected in a single volume (Watchmen, V For Vendetta etc) but I'm open to those too. Any thoughts?

Well there's a lot of quirky indie stuff out there, depends what you're after. Stuff like Fun Home and Pedro and Me are great autobios. Laika is a wonderful telling of the first dog in space, will make you cry. A lot of Adrian Tomine's stuff is quite nice, although it's pretty maudlin. I read half of Palestine by Joe Sacco recently and it was fantastic, I need to finish that off soon...

I don't know, there's a lot. What kinds of stories do you want?

I think I've heard of Laika before, I might give that a shot. I wouldn't mind something quirky, or sci-fi, or anything with time travel/alternate universes. Or horror, actually. I'm not so keen on fantasy stuff. Nothing too depressing for now, need some summer fun time reads.

I've read most of the big superhero ones, and some Chris Ware and Daniel Clowes. I've got a few 'collected' graphic novels, Alan Moore and Frank Miller stuff etc, just looking for something new/different and was wondering if anyone had any particular favourites that they wanted to share.

Somewhat tempted to try out vol. 1 of Uncanny Avengers from comixology. Yay or nay?

You know how every story of Geoff Johns' Justice League has tried to be big and crazy and over the top and important and stuff without ever really being that? Uncanny Avengers is exactly not that. It's the Big Crazy team book where Big Crazy things happen, with the appropriate super flowery narration. It's had its weaker beats, but when it's on, it's on.

I read a really cool horror book by Abnett/Lanning with b&w by Peter Snejbjerg, it was creepy as fuck. Called Lords of Misrule, no idea how easy it would be to find now. Published by Dark Horse. Also there was a Vertigo book by Gage and Samnee called Area 10 that was pretty fun. Dat b&w Samnee art.

It took a while to get there, but Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man finally has what feels like a great origin story. Issue 22 was phenomenal, just absolutely fantastic.

Here is my interpretation of the events. The whole thing ties back to the last arc. Avengers 7-10 and New Avengers 1-5 spoilers follow:

We know that the "System" that governs and watches the development of the multiverse got broken because of the incursions. This leads to the situation where both the time and space axis of the multiverse is out of control. Now it get's fussy and I only use the information in the book: The incursions started happening sometime between the end of AvX and the start of Hickmans run (The ironman suit used by Tony during therescue of Hyperion gives that away and the first NA arc is before the first arc in Avengers).

Ex Nihilo tried to use a special variant of their "bombs" - which were based on designs from "the universe" and thus are also linked to the multiverse and the system that guarded it - to kick start human evolution and the evolution of earth. This happend and the last white event was initiated to give society a chance to get through this forced evolution. These events combined with the interference of Night Mask and Starbrand lead to a jump start for rebuilding the system based on something that seem to be the remaining blueprints of the last system. And during the rebuilding process the new system is reaching out across time and multiversal space to rebuild itself. Consequence: Time and Space are ruputured explaining the difference in time passed and the people exposed to it get "unhinged" from the reality they are part of - in regards to both: time and space - thus we get to see alternate universe versions and possible future variants of the 616-crew.

I hope this is not too confusing - but I love Hickmans run and trying to puzzle it all together :)

Yeah - first post :)

Superman has upped it's game in the last two issues. Good jumping on point for anyone new to the series. Not a lot of action this issue but the dialog is pretty funny and it somewhat ties into what's going on in Wonder Woman.
Orion might be my favorite new character. "I have to save the universe, sorry I have to kill you baby... uh, Hector Hammond... uh, I mean Superman!"

It's a collected series, but based on what you said you're interested in, I highly recommend Warren Ellis' Planetary. The main series is collected in four volumes and there's an additional volume collecting three crossover stories. The crossovers aren't integral at all, so start with volumes 1-4 (All Over the World and Other Stories, the Fourth Man, Leaving the 20th Century, and Spacetime Archaeology in that order).

All Star Western #19. Huh. Gave it a chance because of Booster Gold. Was not disappointed. Not sure if I'd stay after Booster is gone... but I'm on board for now.

Reading the crossover books is really interesting. The writing quality varied so much in Marvel books of the eighties. Like you'd go from reading Jim Shooter's generic over excited dialogue where every! Sentence! Ended! With an exclamation mark! And go straight into Chris Claremont's overwrought angst and then into Power Pack and then back into an issue of Secret Wars where he's hiring prostitutes. Just a weird mish mash but damn did I love it when I first got into comics.

But damn did it piss me off they included that issue of Deadpool in the Secret Wars 2 omnibus. That issue was hot garbage and had nothing to do with anything.

Beyonder was an intresting character that was wasted by the fact he had to be generic enough for thirty writers and artists to carry his story along.

I was pretty bummed about 75% of the way through the entire thing when they decided they had to give him an evil turn. I really liked the first 3/4ths of the whole run because he seemed very genuine and curious, even when they churned through all sorts of different existential stuff.

That Power Pack issue hurt my soul though. God I hated Power Pack. SO MUCH. Secret Wars II is definitely far more ambitious and a better overall story than the original, even though the original is quite the classic.

I really liked Jupiter's Legacy. My local shop, Webhead, even won the little contest thing in the back of the issue. I might go track down the regular Quitely cover because I ended up with a variant I'm not too crazy about.

I'm confused about the time frame.
The past was in 1929, but the current setting is 2013. That's alot of time. The math just doesn't add up. How could the kids be their kids? They'd have to have had them in like their 70s.

The daughter makes mention
that guys are always hitting on her mom, even though she's 100 years old. I'm guessing the island powers age them slow or something? Given how honorable the elders seem to be they probably debated weather or not to have children for decades.

Didn't Ra's al Ghul have Talia in his 600s? They probably age slower due to their powers or something. The one girl mentions that her mom is around 100.

Yeah I guess this makes sense. Just seems weird.

I made the mistake of reading an issue of Power Pack from Marvel Unlimited to my four year old, and now he wants to read more Power Pack every night. I know a lot about Power Pack.
