Sometimes, the conversation goes in that direction. But I can show them the page where Batman bangs Catwoman.

I love that page. It's like All-Star Batman without the irony.

What? Like "Why the hell did you spend $xx on that?"

Seriously, 52 #1's means there's absolutely no continuity from one story to the next. And in a book that big, what's the point?

also 52 issues is 1000+ pages of DC's terrible hardcovers. Marvel's NOW omni will be shit too but at least that shit is going to be sewn.

It's probably a nice way of finding a new series but it really doesn't seem like it's worth the money

God, I remember that. Love to forget, but I can't.

So horrible. "Catwoman, you need to stop this reckless and dangerous behavior, because I'm Batman!" '" Why don't you try and make me... with your DICK."' "Oh, Selina! You're a bad girl, and I just can't say no to you! Let's get it on!" '"Score."'

Oh man, that was so bad.

That's a... yeah, that's basically a condensed version of the exchange.

...Thanks for bringing that up again Spike, I had practically forgotten about it. :p

cracked open the Prophet vol 1 tpb and read the first issue. Good stuff so far, very interesting beginning issue. Although
when that space alien thingy wanted to mate with the lead character.....yikes. Must have been a long time underground indeed

k apologies if this has been discussed to death already, I'm still catching up on a lot of stuff, but I follow Batman and the Batman & Robin comics and I reached this "Requiem"... what's it all about?
Just all of a sudden Damien is dead?! Huh?

He died during stuff in Batman Inc.

Oh man... do I have to start collecting another series?!

Oh my goodness, where do I begin....
The current volume of batman inc is the final part of a long-ass story arc that's been running for ages. Every batman story written by grant morrison from the trade paperback "batman and son" til now has been building up to this. I have no idea how enjoyable or understandable this current arc is if you haven't read the previous ten or so volumes of story. This apparently was the plan for damien from when the character was invented, and the mission statement of the current "batman and robin" run was apparently to develop the character to make us as sad about this as possible.

I see... thanks for that...
maybe I'll wait for the omnibus :p

is stumptown any good?

Children's Crusade...i was excited when i bought the OHC but that quickly changed to rage, really didn't like it at all.

Also, Marvel Unlimited updated their app to allegedly have fullscreen view of comics! Butttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt now the app is sluggish and won't load any comics for me :p Soon this will be a great app.

No "on the bull horn" this month? Is there going to be one next month Spike? Those are the best part of the OP.

I did a comic swap with a friend so I got to read the NOW FF. How is Fraction doing it? It is way better than it should be. Also the Allreds are magnificent in it too. It's like they actually understand what children are supposed to look like, which I thought was a huge problem in Hickman's run.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
I would like to take a moment and pimp a great new book written by a friend of mine. It's a huge accomplishment because he's been a comic book fiend since we were kids and it's amazing to finally see one with his name on it.

It's called Amala's Blade, and it is very awesome.

Seems interesting. I read this conversation between Steve Horton and Brian Wood last night.

Speaking of, just finished The Massive: Vol 1. Really dug it, which isn't too surprising considering I was a big fan of DMZ. It brings me back to the late 80s and early 90s when there was a genuine concern about global environmental issues. I always loved that part of the old Archie TMNT series.

Also interesting that the back of the book gives rough dates for the next two volumes, in December and June 2014. Those are obviously guessable, but I like the show of confidence and commitment.

It's not bad. Worth reading if you like Rucka or detective fiction at all.

I didn't really know much about it, but reading the review of #1 and the general premise, i think i'll skip this one in favor of money for other books. Lazarus #1 for instance :O

It really is very good. I love the art in this and they way the whole thing comes across.

Captain Marvel had some slick shit back in the day-

I bought the collected Shazam a few years ago, I was astonished to see Billy Batson disguise himself with blackface to get on a boat in one story.

Pics here, I don't want to post them inline as they might be found ever so slightly offensive and perhaps not worksafe depending on where you are.

Right chaps need a hand, I used to read comics loads, probably picking up at least 10 a week but this was back in the Civil War arc, got every series linking to this and absolutely loved it. However this is when I stopped reading (mainly for going to Uni and not being able to afford all of them).

I'm thinking of getting back into things, obviously not on the same level but want two or three runs to be getting however I don't really know where to start and when I head into comic shops it always seems like the series are mid-storyline and I don't have a clue what is going on.

Any help would be appreciated! Mainly a Marvel fan but did enjoy Batman series. I have just picked up Gotham Central on recommendation from a friend and am loving it.

'Sho'nuff?' Billy Baston Keepin' it real since 1940. No offense intended but I found this to be funny ^_^;

What're the name of the books that collect the original Captain Marvel series from the 40s BTW?

Gotten up to issue 7 of the Runaways omnibus so far, and good god is this series addictive.
Already, we're up to a "mole in the team" subplot on top of the awesome, which I really hope doesn't turn to crap, somehow. :p

Also, trade haul from yesterday:
Dial H vol. 1
Hawkeye vol. 1 (I know I wanted to wait for the omnibus, but it was a cheap impulse buy)
Wolverine and the X-Men vol. 2

Shazam Archives, there's 4 volumes. The stories are of course indicative of the times and values but reading it 60 years later was a bit jarring. It's funny as the solution is kind of ridiculous but not something I'd expect in a backup feature in JLA nowadays. I think Dial H had something about an Indian character that would be more radioactive nowadays than Hawkman was recently.

Marvel's new stuff is all really good for the most part. Avengers, New Avengers, All-New X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Hawkeye, FF, Thor, Young Avengers, Uncanny Avengers... all great books. Since you've been away from floppies for a while you might want to wait just a little bit and get the trades as they start coming out. Either that or just jump in. You know comics, you'll catch up.

"Why the fuck did you buy that?"

"errrrrrrr"

For good or bad, the reboot of the DC universe was an historic event. For a nostalgist like me, its a time capsule of that month in Sept. 2011 when everyone was talking about the reboot.

Also the creators brought their A game for the #1s. Im some cases the results were still not good, but even the bad stuff (e.g. Catwoman) is interesting. There are only a few uninteresting duds among the 52 issues.
