I didn't really enjoy the first two volumes of Uncanny Avengers that much, certainly not enough to continue on. It's not the worst thing I've read from Remender SIXISSIXISSIXISSIXIS

Caught up on All-New Wolverine and man this book is so comfy, I really enjoyed the annual. Issue 11 though...please don't...

Ahhhaah I haven't even checked out all new wolverine bur had to laugh at Toby Maguires pathetic face.

Nearly got this basket finalised for Monday. Ended up with like 25ish books so I might split it into two rounds.

Cmon though marvel. The vision. 1-6. £9 okay. Gwen 1-6 £9 okay.

Old man logan. 1-4. And an old mark Millar issue. £9. Wtf. That is not cool. Do not do this. Either sell me 1-4 for cheaper, or wait and sell me 1-6. I do not want old issues from previous series in my trade, I don't care who wrote it. I don't want it.

interesting to see so many people reading UA now

i gotta read vol 4 but i don't really feel compelled to right now

My Hero Academia is so damn good. It's pretty quickly cemented itself as my second favorite Shonen manga (behind One Piece). Now, it's just a matter of how long it can keep it's quality up to see how it stands.

great, i'll keep it up.

btw - what happens after i read volume 5? can i read the story weekly via the 99 cent magazines on CMX?

All-New Wolverine is probably my favourite ongoing right, so much fun. I hope Logan never comes back and they just keep the old dude and Laura.

Only 4 issues and a reprint of Millars run? yeesh that's pretty shitty. 6 is the magic number for me but I find more and more that I'm waiting for run to be collected if I'm not following digitally. Marvel seems to be pushing books put with 5 issues a lot more these days or maybe they always have and I'm just noticing more.

It's because the first arc is four issues long and I guess they didn't want to up issues of the next one in since that's four issues as well.

You know, I'm not sure. Maybe it's something to do with my IP (I'm out of the US atm, in Pakistan), but I can't even access My Hero Academia search results on Comixology, nor the app.

I would say more often than not, I have found this with marvel over the last year or so. DC tend to just wait then put a good number of issues in there if necessary, both with their main books and Vertigo. Image you might find it's 5 or 6, but 32 pages of story will make for a beefy ass read.

It's because the first arc is four issues long and I guess they didn't want to up issues of the next one in since that's four issues as well.

Like I say man, give me 4 for £6 or something, or sure, I'll wait for 8. Plenty of books I have have waited for a better value content amount and did the trade at 7-8 issues. 4, 6, or 8, I'm not necessarily picky about that, it's the paying for old stuff that's been used to pad the trade out, that bugs me.

I think I'm the only person in the world that liked that first arc of Uncanny Avengers. I remember it getting tons of hate back when it was first out but a lot of that seemed to be from the delays due to John Cassaday.

Haha, well I didn't read it during any delays, it was the trade I read, so that was definitely not a factor. It was the writing style he went for, I remember thinking it was god awful. I got rid of the book so I can't really go back and pick anything out particular now but I think it was prose-y text added in that was literally saying everything the art should of been saying itself, the dialogue too maybe although not sure. It was something along those lines, but I can't say exactly what now.

Happy to say I've had similar issues with Remender though. He does a looot of overwriting in my opinion, he puts so much of himself in the book, it really relies on him being on point because if he's on a roll, it's a lot of good, and if he's not, it's a lot of bad haha.

Yes, this has definitely been an issue so far. Often times, it's almost exactly describing the art but without any actual style or flair in the writing. It feels like simplistic writing at times and I'm not quite sure what it adds to the book.

At times, I feel like even Remender wasn't quite confident enough in the art of the book with his usage of said text.

I remember when the rumours of the Marvel NOW creative teams were coming out and they had Opena on the series instead of Cassaday. Wonder how different it would have been if that happened.

Just bought my first physical comics. Woo!

Opted to go for tried and true things I've read to start my collection. All-Star Superman and Watchmen. Can't wait for them to arrive, and for me to get home to see them.

I started Batman Eternal earlier and am about 5 Issues in and man, this books throws a lot of plots and subplots at me. Smh.

Thats really the only way to keep a weekly series engaging. Look at the number of stories in 52. Trinity is the only weekly I can think of that had one main plot and it realllly dragged in the middle.

Haha, not yet. Think I'll need to pick up a new shelf since I don't really have much space left.

I'm gonna need to think of something, since I plan on picking up some classic manga as well.

Need some help with a few things before I launch the "You should all read The Omega Men" thread now that it's out everywhere and on CMX:
  • An actual title. I'm thinking about "The Omega Men: Our generations Watchmen epic" but need more suggestions.
  • US links to places where people can buy the book. I have the EU links sorted.
  • What pages should I use to hype apart from the cover? Thinking about 3 or 4 pages max.
  • Sites you like or trust where the book won awards and one small quote from each. Have AV Club/The Onion sorted.

The Omega Men:Go fucking read this book!

I really can't think of anything to show pages wise that isn't a result of built up emotion or giving too much away. If anything I'd think the first couple pages of issue one. It definitely had me saying "what the fuck is going on" in a good way.

Also maybe show off the awesome covers.

You should invest in some big. Maybe a storage locker for your other stuff. You're on a slippery slope now!

Sorry about the football guys. Not being ignorant here, just Scottish (which might mean ignorant anyway?),I wouldn't have the first clue. Sounds like a laugh though.

Include some stuff about about Tom King's Secret CIA field work.

Why did nobody tell me Marvel had an awesome week 2 weeks ago? (Yeah I know people said it)

Spider Woman, Mighty Thor, and Uncanny Avengers were all great. All new Wolverine was probably the worst of the series so far but it was still ok. I just continue to hate Carol and this dumb ass CW bullshit.

I'm really enjoying the Civil War Wolverine tie ins. Logan has some serious PTSD and merging that with the Civil War fuckery has been cool. Plus we've had some really sweet moments between Logan, Gabby, Laura and even Johnathan. Love this book.

DC did free a sneak peak issue IIRC. Might put in that, collection cover at the top and another cover as the end of the first post.

It is a crossover between both books or just logan coming over to wolverine?

Nearly at the end of geralds game, then back to comics. This book is like reading a car crash. It's horrible and sad and even a little sick but I can't not go on reading every detail. Think I'll grab joe hills latest novel alongside the new comics next week.

Break week for Rebirth means a super light week for me. :/

On the plus side, Van Lente has yet another new joint at Dark Horse called Witcherfinder that I am very excited to read. Seems to be a lovecraftian-type book, as opposed to the funner books he's been putting out for the last few years. I'll give it a read and report back.

er, ok, comixology straight up lied to me. It's actually by Mignola. wtf?

Tell me about it. I'm still scouring several websites for comics to buy. I really wanted Pax Americana (in Hardcover) to compliment Watchmen but I don't think such a thing exists.

Anyone have any good Omnibus recommendations (or the like)?

I'm mostly fine with it and the tie-in has been great for the character just with this and the Banner stuff it shows that even if they think they're doing the right thing they're doing it in the worst way possible. Two people that have been prone to losing their shit they sent everybody possible after them. It's just so dumb.

Planetary, Green Lantern by Geoff Johns (three omnibus volumes), Multiversity Deluxe Edition (has Pax Americana in it), Green Arrow by Lemire/Sorrentino Deluxe Edition, Swamp Thing by Scott Snyder Deluxe Edition

If you're in the US, hamiltonbook.com has the DC One Million omnibus for $29.95. I really enjoyed it.

It's actually chris roberson scripting too hahah witchfinder is cool though, especially the 1st series with Stenbeck on art. That last trade with Tyler crooks art was decent too, worth a look :) it's probably the Mignolaverse book that's had the most upheaval volume to volume though in terms of talent

Apparently this is the pitch that actually got him the other work he's doing on the mignola books so hopefully be cool

Oh god. Thanks for reminding me.
Even though I read that issue like... a few hours ago.

Also, I don't like Acuna as an artist to begin with (same face syndrome) but can generally ignore his presence on smaller, more contained titles where there isn't a huge focus on action. But I find him extremely unsuitable for the epic sort of scale Remender is going for here as it actively detracts from the action he's trying to present.

Even characters like Genocide lack the presence they did in X-Force due to the art.
Acuna's style is very pulpy and at times you feel like your reading a classic Avengers story from like the 60s. I dig it.
I did not get into the DC writers workshop. Which sucks 'cause my WW story I had planned will blow your knackers off.

DC dodged a bullet.

Multiversity Deluxe Hardcover would be a good pickup. It has Pax in it.

For actual omnibuses, I would recommend Doom Patrol. It's a big book but it is amazing.

Also, it's as Written by Mignola as every other non-Hellboy Hellboyverse book. He wasn't completely uninvolved.

Haha well that's why I said scripted, I wasn't trying to imply it's Roberson's book alone. I was more just adding to Launchpad's exasperation that's it's not even that it's by mignola; another guy is involved and that's not Van Lente either haha.

Although, to be, since you pointed it out yourself, it's an interesting talking point, and certainly my biggest insecurity with the universe as a whole going forward. Mike said this himself at SDCC (as per the comicsbeat write-up):

All three series will be written by Roberson, in collaboration with Mignola. But as Mignola relayed to attendees: 99 percent of this world will be under the control of Chris Roberson.

“Will there be more Hellboy? That’s my job.” Roberson said.

I don't think we'll ever get to a point where Mike is uninvolved and books are still coming out, I think he'd just stop new material at that point. He makes it seem that for this next batch of books though, he's about as uninvolved as he's ever been. I suspect its because this current batch of books are all very much fill in the gaps books in terms of the largest continuity. Proper tales of their own right, but not furthering the overall plot. I guess Mike will get more involved again when that time comes again/the apparent third and final major arc of BPRd, following Plague Of Frogs & Hell On Earth.

clicky link for a good panel write-up
