i may not have made a female character in DA 3, but 3 out of 4 party members are now girls since i got new people to join my team and the girly hijinx can commence.

I'm almost the exact opposite. Rocking a Dorian, Solas and Cassandra party at the moment with my male human warrior. Think I need to swap my party around a bit more.

Solas has been my go-to character for using Barrier. Made it a lot easier in the earlier parts of the game but I doubt I even need him now. I took Vivienne's rejections to heart.

Bitch Planet. Massively disappointed. Gratuitous nudity that should have been used more thoughtfully to show the vulnerability of the characters. Art was horrible, like one of the fill ins they would use on The Massive. Just an awful comic. Save us apretty Deadly.

You guys are insane, benching Solas. He's DA BEST. Actually when I first started playing I couldn't wait to get another Mage to bench Solas, but I warmed up to him a lot. I think when I noticed he approved ANY time you asked a question about anything I started warming up to him. My main party throughout the game was Cassandra, Solas and Iron Bull. Though I used almost everyone except for Sera. Didn't use Vivienne much either, actually. I got to a point where I started burning out on the game and kind of just rushed through to the ending, and now I can't help thinking about playing it again.

In comics news I should be getting an iPad mini 2 for Christmas and finally dropping my floppies for the digital future. Just gonna keep getting floppies until the current story arc I'm reading is over. You guys know of any essential comic apps? Outside of Darkhorse, downloading that first thing.

Marvel, Image and DC are essentially all in the Comixology Eco System.

I prefer to keep the Apps seperated for a better Overview, also on iOS you cant buy Books in the Comixology, so I recommend using the seperated Apps.

Expecting "more" from KSD is like expecting Greg Land not to trace his favorite Porn-Star-Of-The-Month at the height of her orgasm.

I am all in on this opinion. My thoughts exactly brah. Let down.

Guys what is after Indestructible Hulk?

Just finished. Cliffhanger left me legit shook. I need to know what is next.

EDIT: Also started Brubaker Captain America. Far better than I expected. Good stuff.

It's hard to say it serves no purpose the way it plays with the exploitation genre.
The thing is, it doesn't play or say anything about the genre but merely parrots it. Look, some of this stems for my frustration of not being apart of this industry while others that have the power to do more do nothing. I mean the shower scene from Starship Troopers had much more raw emotion and social commentary then this ten minute issue.

if they had a prison entrance scene with people wearing any clothes it would have felt inauthentic as fuck. that's prison, man.

i think the only real slight i had against it was that hewed a little too closely to oitnb

I think it does subvert genre conventions quite cleverly, though, partly with its structure as pointed out above.

Today's SiP reading is done and my recap is posted in the Book Club thread. Hopefully others will catch up and/or join in. Good stuff and things are about to heat up.

Now back to trying to catchup on my weekly comic backlog

Just read the first 6 issues of Amazing Spider-man. I feel a little lost having not read Superior but I know the premise of Superior and they are doing a pretty decent job of giving short refreshers as needed. I am loving Ramos's art. I think it might be my favorite part of the book. It is the kind of art style I want to see in my cape comics. Clean and a little cartoony. The only problem is that his style sometimes makes characters look too young. One panel showing Captain America made me think he looked like a teenager.

If you like Ramos's art, check out Guardians 3000. The artist on that is good friends with Ramos IIRC, and it has a very similar art style (little messier but still very exaggerated).

Yeah, I love his style, due in part to nostalgia. I had a much earlier attempt at getting into comics about a decade ago, with a couple of issues of Spectacular Spider-Man (#3-4, from the storyline "The Hunger"). Ramos' artwork left an impression on me, especially the over-the-top way he drew Eddie Brock and Venom.

This was my first exposure to either Brock or Venom, for the record.

There is a $20 surcharge to enjoying Ramos' art. Please send a certified check to his address so he can afford the trip to his next con.

December votes are going to be due by Saturday (Dec 27) so I can get the EOY thread done. I know that cuts off a week of December but a) it's the last Wed of the year, historically there's not much out and b) I'll allow inclusion of those books in the January vote.

Plan accordingly.

I can't think of a whole lot of shit to fuss about in December. What the hell came out this month? Batman was cool and Walking Dead was fun. Samdman is always awesome so there is that I guess...

It's all paint by numbers. #1 Batman #2 Thunderworld, and there will be quiet votes for Sandman. I think I just saved everyone the trouble.

Robin Rises and Grayson Annuals still to come out. That, with Batman, is going to be top three. PREDICTIONS. BELIEVE.

rip in peace Deadly Class #10

So after 6 issues where they went on a road trip and had like one issue that actually had anything at all to do with the school, I dropped off the book. Just now, out of curiousity, I went to read the synopsis for #10...

Even teens training to be the world's coldest killers need a day off, so Marcus and Maria hit the streets of San Francisco.

Fucking lol.

Yep. Liked this book so much better when I thought it was going to be a book about an assassins school in the 80s.

You didn't get the memo bro? We are a Marvel centric community that shuns dc comics.

I love what Deadly Class has become.

Same--way more interested in the human element of it. I don't need an Assassin Harry Potter book. The book won me over during the Vegas trip.

Cassandra, Sera and The Iron Bull.

I only have Solas aswell but fuck him.

I play a female Qunari at the moment, and I've got Sera and Cassandra along. Dorian is my mage. I'd take Vivian for Team Girly Hijinks, but I really hate her personality. She gets bitchier and bitchier throughout the game.

WAT!?

WAT!?

I can't believe you're saying this Rafa. Bitch Planet was awesome, and it seems that most of the industry agrees.

Worthy books for Book of the Month so far:

Bitch Planet #1
Catwoman #37
Sex Criminals #9
Uncanny X-Men Annual #1
Gotham Academy #3

I didn't love Bitch Planet but the complaint that the nudity is gratuitous is a bit weird to me. Within the comic it's pretty clearly a method to degrade and shame these women... for being women essentially which is pretty obvious, I think. On a creative level it seemed to me that it's taking this traditionally sexualized depiction of naked women in visual media and de-sexing it. It's not like the nudity in Bitch Planet was titillating, right?

The art on that is much better than anything Ramos has done on Spider-Man. I really dislike Ramos' art though.
