If Winter Soldier continues to be good i'll have to pick up the trade, same applies to Green Arrow despite DC's trade program taking forever to roll volumes out.

ALL TIME

i need to get a hickman FF tattoo when my first son is born

So I need the four FF volumes and Fantastic Four Vol 5 and 6? I was just going to start at FF 1 and Fantastic 600 which is in Vol 5. I want to start reading now so I hope I don't have to wait until I get 570-588 if those are essential to the story.

This whole Rotworld thing continues to be a disappointment. Oh what could've been....

Shit has just taken way too long to go anywhere. My biggest complaint about the New 52 overall is how slow all the writers have been. It feels like with most of the story arcs you could cut 1/4 - 1/2 of the pages and the story would flow so much better. Animal Man is a prime example of this. While I've enjoyed the book, it feels like its moving a long at a snails pace. Felt the same way with Rise of the Third Army, and even H'el on Earth. Just feel like there's so many wasted pages not moving the story along.

All the issues are essential to the story.

What good graphic novels do you guys suggest? I'd like to look into Pride of Baghdad since it looks interesting, and I'm tempted by some video game tie-ins (is Dead Space: Salvage any good?), but I don't really know where to start.

I had to share it. Put a big ol' smile on my face first thing in the morning, so I had to share it.

I like how DiDio decided that it was DC's fans that were making it weak, and has created diabolical and ingenuous ways to kill us off.

I only hope they realize that it's our familial bond, our connection and our shared experiences of what happened before, that make us strong. Before it's too late...

Also, realizing the Ho-Yay in the relationship between Bats and Joker is being played up 300%. I don't deny the crystallization of their connection, but I like it without the 'look of love' camp. Take it back to Joker being the embodiment of darkness and chaos, forever testing the limits and being kept in check by the embodiment of light and justice.
Nahh, that's what led to all this crap in the first place.

Take it back to Joker being an actual criminal who commits crimes to get rich or flout society's corrupt laws, and NOT because he's an obsessed stalker who does crazy things to get Batman's undivided attention because he's secretly in love with him, with Batman enabling him every step of the way. The idea that the Joker is Batman's arch-nemesis, that he is the yin to Batman's yang, is the worst thing that ever happened to both characters -- CRIME is Batman's arch-nemesis. The current Joker is just a nuisance.

Dang, that's well-put.

Theres no shortage of ''criminals who commits crimes to get rich'. I'm ok with the Joker being more than that. That's the point of an arch enemy; the connection is better if it's a little different.

Of course it's essential. Why would volume 1 NOT be the beginning? It's all one continuous story. You'd be starting way into the plot if you read from there. Half the stuff wouldn't make sense.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I think taking things to SAW levels with The Joker recently has kind of ended his character for good though. Theres no rational way back from any of this like stitching loads of people together human centipede style. Its death penalty, or someone in that universe kills him, or the whole worlds suspension of disbelief falls apart.

But thats comics I guess. I mean I remember Doc Ock dying a hero back in the 90's, but here we are and he's fucking mind-swapped with Peter Parker and wanking to all his memories. I can't even remember how they retconned that one, was it the "OH NORMAN OSBORN HIRED AN ACTOR" plot?

Oh here we are:
the original was resurrected by a branch of the mystical ninja cult known as the Hand.[30] Upon his resurrection, it was revealed that he had no knowledge of Spider-Man's identity. The reason was that the memories he gained came from a computer chip provided by Carolyn Trainer; that recent memory had not been recorded at the time of his death.

Guys I heard Lord of the Rings is really good but only only have chapters 6-19 of the Two Towers, is that enough?

I was thinking of starting to read some superhero comics again, and one of the books I'm looking at is All New X-Men. I was planning on picking up the first hardcover when it comes out, but then I saw that the first one is released in April and the second one in June. Does anyone know if they're going to keep up this pace? I'm not sure if I want to start a series that has a new volume every other month.

Welcome to Marvel comics man :) They've been shipping it nearly three times a month, it's madness. Luckily, it's an excellent book and unlike milk, it doesn't go bad if you don't consume it right away. Read the first vol. If you like it, read more at your own pace.

Right, different. It's... different all right. o_O

Joker stabs, shoots, beats, slices, gases, skins, explodes, sews people together, for literally no reason other than "Come play with me, Batsy! Pay attention to me [lover]!" And Batman literally drops everything he's doing, dons his best scowly face and says in that fake gruff voice "Joker MUST be stopped!" Off he goes, running down the breadcrumb trail dancing to Joker's tune, fueled by his outrage at each atrocity Joker commits just to keep him running. Eventually Batman will catch him, and roughs him up, and throws him in Arkham, and Joker plots and schemes and fantasizes about their next encounter, because this one worked out so well for him... he got so much undivided attention from Batman out of it, after all.

Meanwhile every drug kingpin, safe-cracker, shakedown artist, and mugger in Gotham pretends it's Christmas because the Bat is too busy playing with his "girlfriend" to notice. And Catwoman is stamping her foot impatiently on some socialite's expensive Persian rug in front of an unlocked safe, and wondering aloud when Mr. Tall, Dark, and Gruesome is going to show up so THEIR date can begin.

...

Can you get a restraining order from the courts using only an alias?

You know I always wondered why didn't Batman or Arkham every think of lobotomizing the Joker as solution it wouldn't be killing him but it would take away his most dangerous weapon. The only reason I can think of Joker = $$$$$$.

You don't have to be an ass about it. It's not my fault the proper reading order is only found out thanks to Jon Bones. Yes I'm going to be mad I have to buy four other volumes before I can read the one I bought. Marvel didn't help at all with their numbering and not mentioning what would be the recommended reading before starting FF.

That is true that Fantastic Four changes numbering twice throughout that story, not to mention fitting FF in too.

But I think the general point is you shouldn't expect to not have to read the entire storyline if it's by a single writer the whole time.

Prophet #21 is the beginning. (for some reason Image kept the old numbering from years ago)

Latest issue is #33. So you're not that behind :)

YES YES YES

Also i kind of agree Joker being this spurned lover is lame. he needs to be the embodiment of chaos. Remember how awesome emperor joker was.

Spike's my hero for posting this. It's one of the reasons why I've stopped caring about Batman since he's got a great rogue's gallery, but the one villain that's been griefing him for ages is the Joker yet he'll do NOTHING about it really.

Ugh... It's getting old and I just want more interesting plots with the other villains.

Also, saw the JL8 comic last night on tumblr and wondered why Diana stepping on Bruce's head looked familiar lol.

Soooooo Jupiter's Legacy #1 ships in April, but i'm a little reluctant to order the series in print since it's a ten issue, bi-monthly title with a break after 5 issues.

That's going to be a terrible reading experience...

when the time gem goes missing.... aren't the other gems mislabeled? tricksy hickman...

I ended up ordering 570-588. Dark Reign:FF was out of print so I'll just read up on that.

FANTASTIC! i urge you to read the dark reign mini digitally via comixology - then you can get started today!

i know it's confusing, and a pain in the ass to find the right books in the right order but this particular run (which you will have to read twice to fully appreciate) is Perfect. so worth the effort. massive science fiction wrapped tightly around powerfully relatable familial issues. godspeed, son.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if that was a big artist error or something intentional.

Oh man I didn't even notice that. It seems like it would be something hard to screw up so it had to have been intentional.
Maybe those were the alternate reality gems or whatever.
Otherwise the color-er messed up big time.

Meh, that's not isolated to one character and is pretty standard for superhero comics. Every storyline's focus is more important than anything else happening in whatever city, and doubly so when it's one of the character's 'arch enemies'.

There have been Bats stories with the common 'criminal just trying to get rich' and there will be again. That's just the way it works.

I'm sure some writer will take Joker in a slightly different direction (I'm fine with it being a little less gruesome) in the future too, but I doubt we'll ever see much 'common criminal' Joker (I don't really think he's been that for a long long time anyway) and I'm fine with that. Lots of superheroes have that villain that's focused on more than others and every new writer wants a crack at. Comes with the territory

What are the quintessential and essential Black Panther stories to read? I've always loved his character in Avengers, but never read his own stories.

New Avengers #1 went over my head a little:
when black panther went through that portal thing, where did he go and what planet was blown up?

Also, bleedingcool spoiled Injustice on the front page since they are jerks. You don't put a spoiler in the title of an article and then put (spoilers) after it. THE TITLE IS A SPOILER, I THINK I FIGURED OUT THAT THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

RE: New Avengers
he went to an alternate earth. its explained more in issue 2 but the gist is that 2 dimensions cross paths and that only one can survive. so the planet that blew up was an alternate earth.

I never noticed it either - nice catch.
I'm assuming its not a coloring error, so my theory is that someone uses the Time Gem at some point to steal them away and replace them with flawed duplicates right after they are used.

I do not have the same interpretation of the Joker-Bat thing AT ALL. It's not a matter of love, and anyone playing that aspect up is stupid and terrible and dumb. The thing about Modern Joker is that he's all about symbolism. His thing is that he wants to prove that nothing in this crazy fucked up world makes any sense. That it's all a big joke. And Batman stands in direct contradiction of this ideal. The implausibility of costumed crimefighting not whistanding, Batman is all about methodically putting stuff back in order. Everything about him makes sense.

With that in mind, the Joker's endless taunts and provocations make sense : either his elaborate deathtraps kill Batman, thus removing the guy that stands between him and his dreams of turning everyone into insane psychos, or he actually gets Batman to kill him, thus proving that Batman is just as messed up and corrupt as everyone else, and therefore winning the ideological battle.
