I stopped reading this after the first Inifinity tie-in arc. Does it get better? Is there good pacing and characterization, or more of the same?

It always had great pacing and characterization, just crappy Land art until the past two issues so…

more of the same I guess? You should skip it if you don't like Al Ewing's already stellar work.

Did it? My memory of the first arc is meh at most. Maybe I will give the second arc another try. I remember the resolution being the kind of hand-waving mumbo jumbo that some writers, Bendis for example, like to throw in. Maybe that soured it a bit for me. That and I ve never been too invested in any of the characters, although more Monica Rambeau is always welcome.

I think I stopped reading after #16 because it seemed like things were dragging on and on without anything really interesting happening to keep me interested. Maybe it was because I was following it month to month and the wait kind of made it hard to get back into the flow with each issue. I read Echo in it's collected edition and spent a weekend devouring Stranger's in Paradise (should never have tried to just sample and buy piecemeal, as I wasted money once I broke down and just bought the comixology bundle) and loved loved loved it all so maybe I should give Rachel Rising another chance. Maybe once it's done and I can just go through it all at once. For some reason the two leads just didn't capture me like the leads in his other series did.

This- the bold specifically- surprises me. I feel that intriguing- often surprising, shocking or moving- events unfold every issue. I am reading in trade, though. I've read the first two volumes (through issue 12) twice each. Perhaps you don't particularly enjoy mystery? I don't usually like mystery as a genre but in this case I find it a fun challenge to track all the moving parts and try to tie them together.

In any case, I'd be happy to take your RR floppies of your hands :)

Me neither, to be honest, but Ewing has gone a long way to doing a good job with them so far.

Anyone do trade-ins at cheapgraphicnovels before?

I want to switch out my Thor: GOT and Indestructible Hulk vol 1 paperbacks for hardcovers, but will just hang on to them or give them to a friend if it's not worth it.

No, I think I really enjoyed the first dozen issues, but then maybe the last few up to #16 dragged a little? Especially with all the
deaths and possession-jumping and revivals
it seemed like random stuff. Actually kind of reminded me of American Horror Story: Coven where shit happens but doesn't see to amount to or mean anything. It could just be that I got impatient with the monthly wait and kept forgetting things though.

I do love the premise though and I love both Terry Moore and horror, so maybe now that I have a lot of issues to catch up on at once I should dive back in.

Me neither, to be honest, but Ewing has gone a long way to doing a good job with them so far.

Ok, I'll check out the second arc. I like what the mission statement for the series was when it was announced and maybe I'll like it without Infinity clouding everything.

400 dollars. All Hellboy Libraries and BPRD, Invisible Ult 7 and 8, all of Rachel Rising, Scott Pilgrim Color 2-4, Manhattan Projects 3. Wanted Skottie Young books and 100 Bullets but that was my complete guilt limit.

Haha good lord Rafa, that's a lot of stuff. Some really great picks though, well done.

What is comics GAF take on Powers by Bendis? Debating picking up a few of the hardcovers.

Really like it, and as far as I know those hardcovers are fairly cheap for the amount of pages they contain.

Damn, nice work. I have spent like $120 there recently and feel really guilty, lol.

Wow Hawkeye was excellent, finally some real plot advancement, that cliffhanger.
I hope Barney isn't dead, we all know Clint will make it out of this
.

Also, Rocket Racoon ongoing? With Skottie Young? I'm fucking in, no Bendis is a godsend.

Damn Rafa, you're gonna have to work overtime at Wal Mart. No superstar writing for a while.

Brah I've been dropping $50 dollars on IST every other week since December. The trick is to pace yourself.

Some awesome stuff though, I've been eyeing those Hellboy libraries.

Brah, take a guess at how much I spend at DCBS every month. I desperately want to be a part of this industry. Guilt will drive me there.

I dunno who else reads the Doctor Who comic books, but Titan Books announced the creative teams for the books they're putting out this summer - "The Tenth Doctor" and "The Eleventh Doctor"

Titan Comics has announced its first "Doctor Who" ongoing series following the announcement it had picked up the license in January, and has provided CBR with an exclusive first look at the covers and solicitations for "Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor" #1 written by Nick Abadzis with art by Elena Casagrande; and "Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor" #1 written by "Mighty Avengers" scribe Al Ewing and "The Royals" writer Rob Williams with art by Simon Fraser.

Nice haul, brah. I dipped in on the Hellboy Library Editions a while back. So worth it. I need to catch up on Invincible as well actually.

Also just ordered Rachel Rising volume 1. Gotta check that out.

Big floppy beach hat Mera won the vote for the Bombshells statue :D

Kinda wish she were sitting though just for the sake of variety - Ivy is the only one so far.

Have you read hellboy before?

Nevah.

Your're in for a treat. I got into Hellboy by getting all the Library Editions off of Amazon and then burning through them. Same with BPRD. Now I'm desperately waiting for the new ones to come out. If Dark Horse was on comixology I would probably be unable to resist catching up, so it might be a good thing they're not. Library Editions are so sexy.

They take trade-ins? Cha-ching!

Srsly, though. You've got my attention. How does it work?

Sounds pretty straightforward, just wondering if anyone's done it before and if they have pretty decent trade-in values. 20% doesn't sound too hot but if I'm not gonna do anything with these books, might as well be a guinea pig. Or I may just take them to the buy/sell/trade thread.

Guide to trading in your graphic novels:

(1) E-mail us a list of the books you would like to trade-in, including:
- Book Title > please note if you have an older edition if applicable
- Book Type > Hardcover or Paperback
- Cover Price

(2) Upon receipt of your email we will send you an ESTIMATE of what we will give you for your books (a very general rule of thumb is about 20% of cover price, although this number may vary based on popularity of book, condition, number of copies we have on hand, etc.) – this amount will be paid in store credit, for use on the CheapGraphicNovels website, NOT CASH. Please note this estimate will be based on books being in Very Fine/Like New condition; lower condition books will receive a lower amount of store credit. We will notify you of your actual store credit after we receive your books and evaluate their condition - by sending books in you are agreeing to our condition evaluation of the books and accepting our final judgment.

(3) Our offer is good for 30 days after we email you. If you decide to accept our offer you can pack up the books (carefully, as remember condition we receive them in affects their value) and ship to our brick-and-mortar store:

Enjoy! I just read through it all myself a month or so ago.
It will probably take a month for me to get it. IST and USPS are super slow. Good thing I get my DCBS shipments in two days.

Man Im still reeling from all those announcements yesterday. Rich said there would be some today. Damn, liar.

GAF, I need some advice. I've been out of comics for the last few months and I'm playing catch up.

Here's what I'm currently interested in pulling every month:
Black Science
Daredevil
Hawkeye
Invincible
Lazarus
The Punisher
Rat Queens
Saga
Sex Criminals

Here are a few I'm interested in but not 100% sold:
Captain America
Chew
Dead Body Road
The Manhattan Project
Ms. Marvel
The Planetoid

The Punisher and Daredevil are my favorite Marvel characters, so they're pretty much a lock. Saga, too. Everything else is flexible.

If you like Saga and Black Science you should get Manhattan Projects, Prophet, and East of West. The 5 best sci-fi books on the shelf right now.

I've made one whole order with IST and I think it took about a week to come, but felt like forever. I'm definitely spoiled by Amazon Prime and living so close to a warehouse.

Alright brahs, gonna dive into Six Gun Gorilla, I may have thoughts later on it.

I used to hate that they weren't, and I still do on a certain level, but the bundles they have on digital.darkhorse.com are like a 24/7/365 sale.

Ya. And with a username such as yours, I must assume you read it, too. If not, ya should.

Yup I read it.

So if I went to the trouble of typing up a 500 word post on the Manhattan Projects would anyone care and/or read it? This theoretical post would be saved for the March thread.
I would love to read it since The Manhattan Projects is one of my favourite ongoing series. And if you've already written it you can make it an OT and post it in off-topic. It will certainly attract more attention there.

Maybe I'll read it tonight also and have a discussion. Also, you are right, waiting sucks with IST but you can't beat the prices if you go over 50 bucks. I got 6 books for $53 when it would have been close to 100 at Amazon.

Right, so I've decided that to make this work I'm going to just wait for all my Marvel titles to show up on Unlimited. Not a financial hardship, but I feel guilty dropping more than $30 or so a month on comics. I'm also far enough behind on Daredevil, Hawkeye, and Captain America to make this work.

My new list looks like:
Black Science
Chew
Deadly Class
Lazarus
The Manhattan Projects
Sex Criminals
Saga
Rat Queens

I'll give these a shot:
East of West
Prophet
Zero

Dat Image.

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Goodness, Rafa. Can't wait to see the picture of the massive stack of books.

Anyways, does anyone have any recommendations for a dystopian future/Blade Runner-esque comic? Reading Martha Washington has got me craving something like that.
Has anyone read the Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep graphic novel? Obviously that would fit the bill, but I'm kind of put off by the fact that it contains every word of the novel. If I wanted to read the novel, I'd read the novel. Does the graphic novel actually succeed though?

I knew that they had a digital store, but I just can't see myself buying comics across 2 platforms. I need a one stop storehouse for my digital collection. But that means I'm always really behind on Dark Horse stuff and rarely check out anything new. Such a shame (not for my wallet).

Old City Blues is quality cyber punk, innit?

The talk of Prophet reminded me of how much I loved the first 3-issue arc. Man, that's good comics.

I'm going through withdrawls. I may not get my comics haul until a couple weeks from now because I'm dropping most of my disposable income on the Superman and the Legion of Super Heroes Heroclix expansion.

Must be strong.
