oh, VJC /was/ being literal. ok

its like finding porn of Aladdin and Jasmine, drawn by the official Disney artists who worked on the film.

My mind doesn't know how to process this shit

edit: Red Romance is another good one, Joe R. Lansdale wrote that one, forgot about it

Since we're on the topic, can anyone recommend some good feminist-friendly comics? Other than Strangers in Paradise, obviously.

For those of you who won't look it up, it's just vanilla sex and there's a pannel of some old dude suckin on some girl's nipple. He looked like he was enjoying himself.

Is it worth picking up the pocket edition of Bruce Timm's Naughty & Nice even though it doesn't have the licensed character art? The older edition goes for ridiculous monies.

My new friend is interested in giving comics a shot but she's also a women's studies major and I don't want to scare her away from the start. So far my list includes Ms Marvel, SiP, Saga, and maybe Velvet.

Oh man, they misspelled Kieron Gillen's name in the credits to Darth Vader #1. :(

Great book though.

Spider-Gwen might be a good one when it comes out. Really, it depends on what she likes. Have her read a variety of stuff to start and I'm sure people will have more recommendations based on that.

Yeah, Sunstone actually might be a good choice... she's not a prude, but she's even more sensitive to depictions of women in media than I am, so that should give you an idea about how tough it is to find something that won't immediately turn her away from the hobby.

One thing that has always bothered me about comics (and this isn't necessarily aimed at anyone in particular) is when people ask for Good Depictions Of Women or quote unquote feminist conics people always trot out these lists of dudes.

But I guess that's the world we live in!!

It's really unfortunate, but if we're lucky we'll continue to see an influx of talented women writers (and artists) in the coming years. The more the industry begins to welcome females into creative roles rather than supportive ones, the more diversity we'll have in what's being released... win win!

Also, the industry needs to start pushing back against people like Brian Wood rather than trying to sweep it under the rug and give him plenty of writing jobs.

Hell no. Level with her and show interest in her field of choice. Tell her you study women in your down time, and pull out a copy of Naughty & Nice.

Haha, I'd need someone to record that so there was documentation of the consequences. This is "lets just be friends" girl... she figured a dude that looks like he should be a stunt double for one of the Duck Dynasty guys wouldn't be her type of dude, but she saw the err of her ways and things have been sogood.gif ever since!

edit - I love you, Ed. Great list of recommendations!!
