I gotta say, the response to the ANAD Mahvel lineup sort of goes a long way towards explaining why the industry is as insular as it is. I mean, it's one thing to be unexcited for books from known, crappy talents, but the idea that unknowns == boring is telling.

I finally found the last two issues of Unwritten. Time to read how it ends.

On my trip over here I finally sat down and read volume 1 of Low. HOLY.FUCKING.SHIT. What an absolutely stunning book from beginning to end. I am fully invested in this world and its characters. I felt pure sadness, rage, excitement and happiness. This is why I read comics. I was left itching for more but with how well this trade read I think I will keep with the trade waiting. It feels like a great conclusion to the first part of the story but leaves a hook out there that you want to follow.
Oh man the art. I know this art is love it or hate it but I absolutely LOVE the art. It has such a great sense of style and it is so colorful. The design of Stel and her son and daughter are really great (story spoilers from here on out)
I cannot wait for more. Thank you to Zombeen for reminding me to read it. This arc is going straight into my fav comic volumes.
The world feels alive, parts of the world feel seedy and dirty and pushing stels eternal optimism into that setting is really facinating. I love that she just won't give up in the face of ever increasing odds. She always believes.

It is so rare that a book actually angers me but I hate Roln. He is an absolute piece of shit. Having Stels daughter refer to him as her father disgusted me. He is a villain that just gives off this massive air of arrogance that when he finally gets what is coming to him (and oh boy does he get what is coming to him) it is a massive fist pump moment. I smiling from ear to ear.

if I've read a book with Ramos drawing it in the last decade, it is almost always because the writing is strong. His work does nothing for me. He was good on Spider-Man when he was with Jenkins.
Now tell me how excited are you to see Land on X-Men

Last Days of American Crime is actually getting a reissue in hardcover. It was supposed to be out this month but got pushed back to mid-August.

Great! Sorry about the binding though. You can probably fix it with some glue but its still readable. If you do like it I recommend you get the Library Edition.

Mine, too. It was ready to go earlier in the week, but they were waiting on the first Usagi Yojimbo omnibus.
IMO it is neck and neck with Deadly Class. Before reading it I had an idea in my head what low was about but I was totally wrong lol.

You know what book isn't good?
Wicked + Divine.
It's a book that seems like I should like it, and maybe even seems like it's pretty good.
But I can't fucking keep any of the damn characters straight, nor can I tell why there are so many of them when practically all of them read like the exact same character.
It's just.. blah.

Yeah, pretty much. I read the first issue and I was like "Oh fuck, Gods in modern day, this is my shit"
Like you said, every character reads in a very similar way. And I dislike the main character.
