I'm really interested in the occult aspect (the lovecraft themes in Locke and Key sound interesting) or psychological kind of horror. I heard hellblazer was good so I might check that out as well. I just finished I...Vampire not too long ago so I'll probably check out Locke and Key next.

If you like Lovecraftian themes, you might want to look into Fatale and Nameless.

Thanks again. Didn't know Brubaker was writing Fatale. Oh and Grant Morrison on Nameless.

Wytches sounds like your kind of thing.

Yup it looks interesting, trade is out soon too.

Just came across this in Busiek's Avengers and found it hilarious. It's even better with no context.

Locke & Key is one of my favorite comics of all time, and also simultaneously has one of the most disturbing panels I've ever seen in a book.

I'm reading Rocketeer Hollywood Horror, the blood bug hardcover version, and these old fashioned pulpy kinda fun but kinda too calm stories aren't for me. If only there could be more hijinx. Great paper quality though.

I had read the Cargo of Doom mini and that was a little better, but still not that great despite

Art on Death of Wolverine #1 is awesome, they always bring out the big guns for these big events dont they? The book itself is fine, intriguing enough and a neat / inevitable idea since they took his healing factor.

Wolverine #1-12 were also ok, but turns out you dont really need to read them if youre just looking for the death, all you really need to know is that he lost his healing factor (hell it happened before thus new volume anyway) and its open season on a killable Wolverine

What about the gun? Does he use it?

So, I finished off the 2 books in the first Don Rosa duck collection and the first volume of Sunstone last night (was already pretty far into the duck stuff).

The Duck stuff was quite interesting as expected. Lots of creative stuff, and the collection is great. Big nice hardcover books in a solid slipcase and a crapload of extras. It was cool to see that they even went so far as to include a story that was never properly finished, was only a storyboard essentially. But yeah, a ton of cool, creative stories that aren't really written like your usual comic stuff. Just taking a creative idea and running with it, or making a big adventure. Admittedly there are definitely some stories that are just okay. Even they aren't bad, just nothing too special. But again, probably the significant majority is stuff I'd call straight up classics. This would really, really be a great book to give kids when they're growing up, seriously. And I'm definitely going to grab more when it comes out, as well as looking into the Carl Barks stuff as well.

And Sunstone... you guys were totally right. It was a definite build-up, though. Like, I'm not into BDSM myself, and I was kind of uncertain at first. But it just kept drawing me further and further in, and now I'm totally looking forward to reading the next volume (which I fortunately have sitting here), and kind of sad no more are out yet (though of course there's the deviantart). I'll have more thoughts later probably, but for now... I was surprised at just HOW risque it got. Like, this is definitely the most sexual thing I've read that I wouldn't call porn. But yeah, more thoughts later, probably.

Interesting to say, though, that these comics actually did have something in common: they both feel like something completely different from the norm (and are both great). Though I still wouldn't say that BDSM and anthropomorphic ducks go together, unless you have some very specific fetishes...

So I totally forgot to say this the first time around, but I really like the choice of title and its context in the story for Sunstone. I hit the point where it came up and I was just like "oh man, that's really cool/clever and totally makes sense." Also, since such discussion feels relevant here, Ally is definitely my favorite as of the end of the first volume, at least.

I shall read volume 2 very, very soon and definitely have more to say tomorrow.

#TeamAlly is strong. She is the best. I'll reply more when I am not in a waiting room lol :(

Who does the art in the first arc of Avengers? It is amazing.

Sorry. Filthy Muties.

Ringing endorsement, i see.

Finished Empire v2.

Well then.

Inclined to believe that when out of ideas, Waid just straight lifts inspiration from Miracleman.
I think the hardest Miracleman ripoff I've ever seen was JMS's Supreme Power. I think at one point it almost goes panel by panel. 'homages' don't have to be good I guess

Messi, Opeña's output is pretty low. He did a bit of work on infinity and he did rage of Ultron or rather part of it. He also did the first arc of uncanny x force if you go back

I've been eyeing comic book pages, but man that's not something I wanna get too into yet

Of course I'm also keeping tabs on every artist who's going to SDCC that I wanna get commissions from

The few art pages I've seen that make me want to get one were all going for $1000+. No way am I getting into that.
