Demon Knights was awesome, really sad that one ended. Swamp Thing and Animal Man have had highs and lows. They started off great then rot world DRAGGGED, now Swamp Thing is back to being awesome, and Animal Man is alright.

Seriously you bought Hawk and Dove you could have bought Demon Knights.

I bought Hawk and Dove as a complete set for fire sale price. It wasn't on my initial New 52 pull list. I had zero interest in the "Dark" stuff. So no JLDark, no Swamp Thing, no Demon Knights. Animal Man as a concept just sounds dumb. I also didn't originally get Birds if Prey or Green Arrow but went back and bought the back issues during one of my LCS's half off sales.

I'm a sucker for complete runs and once I've written off a series it's hard to go back and change that. I also don't do trades except in hardcover and only for storylines that I really like.

I'm becoming more convinced by the day. Last night I wrote: click

Rich just wrote on bleeding cool:

It makes sense! Things aren't looknig peachy for Dick anyway her,el ooks like he's peering deeep into the black mirror

I'm okay with anything that takes Dick from street level hero to Justice League material.

I trust neither Tynion nor Johns to bring the goods tho.

I agree with a lot of what you said re: Swamp Thing, Animal Man, and Demon Knights. However I'm only quoting the image because it's glorious and more people need to see it. The freaking Metal Men drawn by Ivan Reis!!!

Kipp

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Just reading Chew and I love how consistently funny it is .

Consistantly the best comic out now.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it.

This would probably be a good time to mention that I read Godzilla: Gangsters and Goliaths last night - which is also written by Layman - and I was thoroughly entertained. It was a great read and had a much better story than you'd expect for a Godzilla comic.

NYCC rumor confirmed today, James Robinson is relaunching Fantastic Four with Leonard Kirk as artist.

Interesting. The art style reminds me a lot of Ryan Ottley's work on Invincible. I'm not really familiar with a wide range of artists though. Looks good from what little there is to see, hopefully won't be as dull as the MF run has been.

Started reading the Black Glove before bed last night and I felt like I was reading Clue with Batman and a strange cast of characters. I didn't even make it to the halfway mark before it was lights out but I have no idea where this is going.

I'm sure you're right that reading NOS4R2 first would be ideal, but Joe Hill said on Digital Spy."It's very much a standalone story, and it's my intention to craft something that can be loved by people who have never cracked the cover of NOS4R2, while hopefully giving those who liked the book a new Charlie Manx tale to enjoy."

.. Which is nice because I'm interested in trying out the comic but the novel not so much.

Oh right! I wasn't aware of that. That's good news, thanks for letting me know.

Agree with the consensus that the Fantastic 4 logo is bad. The A/4 thing is pretty cheesy, but the fact the "IC" at the end reads like a "K" is just not a good look.

I don't read Fantastic Four, but didn't they get rebooted with Marvel Now?
No, nothing got rebooted except the numbering scheme. The trend in comics toward "season" storytelling means you'll see more of this from Marvel. The Fraction series itself was a direct continuation from Hickman's run.

That's a shame, because early on in the N52 the "Dark" stuff was some of the best books. JLD, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, and Demon Knights really kicked off their new 52 lives very strongly. Much better than some of the other stuff that was out there.

What's the point of another #1? They just did it a year ago. Ridic.

I guess that makes sense. But they're more than happy to revert to the big milestone numbers when they reach them. Shaking my head.

Turns out I have a little mroe cash than I thought I had this week. In addition to the other dark books I ordered earlier in the week, I was considering a) the first JLD collection by Milligan, b) resurrection man volume 1 orrrrr suicidal option c) buy and struggle through phantom stranger volume 1 so I know what's going when the Dematteis trade arrives and I can try out the series for real.

Anyone want to advocate any of those options/laugh at me for considering the third? For catch up, earlier in the week I ordered Frankenstein vol 1, JLD vol 2, Demon Knights 1-2 & I,Vamp 1-3.

Also, read half of Green Arrow Year One. I like it. It's a quick read though, I felt like I destroyed those three issues. Also, while I like that's its more realistic in how he ended up on the Island and what's happening there, I like how the show actually shows slowly how he gained his abilities. In this, he's just suddenly backflipping off trees etc. Looking forward to reading the rest.

The Fantastic Four just need to be put out to the pasture for a while. They are relics of a bygone era. Sucks that we won't be getting a FF companion book, that has been the more interesting angle the past few years.

And fucking Fedex lost my DCBS shipment for last week of October. Brahs just need to stop tracing it and admit fault.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
The Thing in prison for murder. Johnny Storm powerless. Dragon Man sentenced to death.

GRIMDARK, MY FAVOURITE! Marvel has no idea what to do with the Fantastic Four post-Hickman. Oh oh, make sure you bring back DR DOOM ARMOR MADE OF FLESH too!

My experiences with UPS and USPS are that they never fucking admit fault. EVER. Even with Batman-like detective work and evidence build-up. I've never had an issue with Fed-ex but I imagine it's the same.

That's one perk with Amazon. At least from the customer end, they rarely question it. You say something got lost, they will replace it.

The thing is you can tell from the tracking it is lost. It hasn't updated in over three weeks and Ive gotten a package every Friday for the past year. Need Sadman Overture and tens of other goodies.

Stegman on Wolverine? Da fuck? Get that brah on a 2099 book by rising star Dennis Hopeless.

I've since added JL:D to the pull list as well as Constantine, Pandora and Phantom Stranger. I'm still not interested in Swamp Thing or Animal Man, however. Don't know what it'd take for that to change.

Just to interject here for a minute, if you had any interest in Animal Man or Swampy I wouldn't start with the N52 stuff anyway. For Animal Man I'd point you to Morrison's run and for Swampy I'd go with Alan Moore. The N52 series are fine for what they are (and I really love Lemire on Animal Man, probably more than I should), but neither will likely end up as classic interpretations of the characters. Especially that Rotworld mess, ugh.

Started up that Black Glove business. It's interesting but took a little time. Not done yet!

Also got through the first five issues of Sandman. Yeah, gonna see this one through and buy more.

Parallax

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"
Marvel Zombies is the best miniseries that Marvel has ever done.

I'm not even joking.

Finally getting caught up on the few I hadn't read.

read it as a self contained series with the first volume and the crossover arc from ult f4. the sequels really fuck it over.

Issue 4 of Sandman, when Morpheus confronts Lucifer and the triumvirate in Hell, is one of my favorite issues in all of comic-dom. I think that's when the series really relayed what it was going for, and how truly well written, well thought out, and just how important it would be.

Keep coming back with updates, brotha--I don't see much discussion of Sandman around here and I'd love to keep it going.

i mean, the 90s tv series was great, but the 90s comics were so unbelievably shit that they're illegal substances in 45 states.

and i swear to god if that "mortal" teaser is another powerless wolverine reboot.... fucking marvel
