"@ales_kot: If you give comics work to Nathan Edmondson while knowing enough about his past actions, don't bother trying to get me. I will not."

"@laurennmcc: Edmondson is an abusive creep, and @Marvel KNOWS he is. They have proof that he is. But they still hired him."

Yeah, I just heard about this and just came to post that it will not end well.

They probably think putting a NA artist on the book is all it takes.

I know Edmondson doesn't do the art, but whenever I see his name I think of the bottom panel:

Man, not even going into the sexual predator thing, why the fuck would you give your ever-so-rare book with a Native American lead to the guy who had a racist as all hell Punisher run that's unironically into the idea that basically jail is too good for brown people? How would that be a good look even with a writer that's 100% about clear enthusiastic consent all the time?

See, this is a really good point. The fuck's up with that?

Because Edmondson pitched Marvel an idea for the book that they thought was good enough to publish, even though a book about a D-list Native American hero that virtually nobody's thought about in 40 years has "risky endeavor" written all over it?

I don't think being a Native American is relevant to the book being a "risky endeavor" as you put it...

I realized a big reason why I started buying DC graphic novels way more than Marvel and thus sealed my destiny as a bit of a DC fanboy: DC's graphic novels are for the most part always cheaper. Anytime I see a $15 DC graphic novel on Amazon, I know it's going to be like 300 pages long. A ~150 page one is normally about $10. This isn't a strict rule, but it is easily the norm. For Marvel, a ~130 page graphic novel tends to run closer to the $15 mark.

Thus, I was getting better value with the DC stuff, and since I am on a fairly strict budget, I gravitated towards them. I then starting learning and loving the breadth of DC characters that were mostly foreign to me a few years ago (other than Batman and Superman).

Yeah I was surprised looking at infinity gauntlet's page count and price. I think when I finally sit down and veg out on Marvel I'll just go for marvel unlimited and pick up the trades that really resonate with me.

In a similar token I didn't realize image books were so cheap either. Wytches was like $5 for the first volume.

As a Native American I can say lol what.

Wow, you jumped on that one specific part of my comment like I bolded, underlined, and highlighted it. A book about Red Wolf isn't a risky endeavor because it's about a Native American; a book about Red Wolf is a risky endeavor because it's about Red Wolf.

Unclench.

EDIT: Zombine's post was apparently just bad timing. I'm sorry.

No Spike...I was talking about people being upset on behalf of something I don't care about. Lol. Like "GOD THOSE POOR NATIVE AMERICANS BEING HELD BACK BY COMICS! BOYCOTT!" As one I can say I don't care. I don't even think I'd be upset at a book called "Andrew Jackson Was Right- P.S. Fuck The Irish Too."

My comment wasn't even directed toward you. I generally agree with your musings lol.

Any DC book that is a hardcover and around or close to 200 pages is usually $25 at full price. But they give you about 5-6 issues of meaty content.

Marvel is best read with a Marvel Unlimited subscription.

I DO think Marvel Unlimited is a FANTASTIC value. I just hate reading digital comics. Not a fun experience to me. That would possibly be different if I had a big thin and light tablet where I could comfortably read each page without having to zoom in or do smart panels or whatever. But with my phone, even being a 5.5" 1440p screen, I can't stand it.

Not Marvel's fault, though. I wish I enjoyed it because the value is amazing.

Yeah digital reading on a phone is useless. It's amazing on a tablet.

Yeah that may be. I haven't actually looked at list price on this stuff, since places online don't sell at list price. Plus, I never buy hardcover, even though I would LOVE to (just not in my budget). They tend to be $15-20 on Amazon for a 200 page hardcover, and even a little cheaper on InStockTrades, though.

Thanks for your perspective. I'm sure all other Native Anericans agree. We can all move on now. 👍

To be fair, the unlimited app isn't all that great.

But yeah, I read digital on the 10" iPad Air 2 and it is glorious.

i still do like a good trade though, especially for stuff I really want to keep and put on the bookshelf.

I expect it will be a rare occurrence for me to buy a floppy single issue ever again, save for something to get my kid interested.

I could see it being awesome on the iPad Air 2. I just can't make myself pay that much for one when I know that I won't use it for anything other than comics lol (I've had plenty of tablets in the past, good and bad, and I always went back to using my phone for everything after a couple of months).

I'm thinking my plan to buy an ipad pro for giant comics reading is not going to happen once they throw down a $1000 price tag. I've been making my way through Atomic Robo vol 3, while i don't love the plot so far Robo's dialog is constantly something that i enjoy reading.

Also, don't forget about Colbert's Late Show premiere tonight in an hour, Jeb! is going to be on.

Seriously if she ends up being Fun-der Woman for the entire thing I might have to pick this issue up. Knowing Ennis though, I'm still sort of dreading that more awful things will happen to her than a hammer to the face and a personality adjustment.

Kyle knows what I'm talking about.

Bueno's already got another subplot. I can't really see Ennis doubling up, because while his sense of humor can be juvenile as all hell, he's not a bad writer, and he knows how to make use of limited space.

Y'all need MGSV in your lives.

I've been playing all the MGS V I can handle. At 25% completion right now.

What book is this again? I think I might need to check this out.

Man, once I'm home from work the phone gets put aside for the most part. My tablet is one of the most used devices I own. It's like everything I'd do on the phone i just do on a bigger screen and nicer device. It helps that the Air is extremely light and thin.

I suppose one of the larger screen phones would help somewhat, but still....I also had the Nexus 7 for a couple of years and it's fine....but even then once I got the larger tablet again I put it aside too.

I totally get that. I've never had a tablet that had those three perfect aspects (big, thin, and light). I've had big tablets, but they weren't very light. I've had thin and light tablets, but only small ones.

I'd like to get a nice one someday. Maybe not an iPad Air, but something on Android with a 10" screen that's really thin and light, since that would most likely be cheaper.

Yeah, that's the reason I bought both N7s. Wanted to try an Android tablet, and they were very good devices for the price. Screens were awesome, which helped alleviate the smaller size a but. But to be honest the Android tablet situation wasn't great and if you find yourself gravitating to your phone now they probably won't change that. There seems even less initiative by neither Google or devs to actually build things for a tablet form factor. The N7 was the most 'feels like a big phone' tablet I've ever owned. Even comixology just stuck their phone app on it and called it a day.

I want to get an iPhone 6 Plus and I'll probably read comics on it once I do get it. I can read things on my 4S so I'll be okay.

Oof...yeah if you can handle reading on a 4s you won't have any problems.

Seriously, Ocelot named the dog Deedee? Fuck is this, dexter's lab?

Who wants to be on the losing team with a bunch of losers? We should build a wall around them and make them pay for the bill.

I am very pro military though, my cousin (who is like my brother) is in special forces.

Always knew you were a socialist.

I've read pretty much everything ever put out by Ennis, and i'm struggling something fierce to remember a single nice female character ever done raw by him. Even when he has Something Terrible happen to them, there's a proper in-universe justification, and usually some balance afterwards.
