Marvel's NYCC sale is actually pretty good lol.
-Standoff
-Apocalypse War
-Black Panther
-Spider-Women
-Gwenpool
-Steve Rogers Captain America
-Punisher
--Moon Knight
-Thunderbolts
-International Iron Man
-Black Widow
-Mockingbird
-Mercs for Money v1

Huge Marvel sale too. Standoff was terrible, but $10 for the entire event? Tempted.
Ok.
Jesus, someone needs to do a Tigra solo book already.
The problem there is that you're probably the only one who would buy it. It would be interesting to see what they would do with her costume though.

That latest Black Widow issue by the way.

Quietly one of the best books on the stands.

Hopefully more noise once it hits trade, I'm looking forward to getting it then.

Not a book I get crazy buzzed over, but now I know low vol 3 is out, I do want to know what's up next in Stel's optimistic journey.

Guess it's time for me to read some Gwenpool. I hated the idea of this character at first then I learnt you guys actually like her. Time to give it a try.

I wish Image would have included Rumble in that sale. It's a ridiculously good book that can use every sale it can get.

They also didn't include Manifest Destiny but I'm getting used to that.

Crosspost from the Marvel Now Shattered Dreams thread.

Okay, I think we can play this game. Which books will fall to the pit of canned and how long will they last? 12 issues is the touchdown.

Alpha: 6

Wait, Alpha had a 6 issue series? How? Huh?

Just read through that part of Slott Spider-man the other day, and... the whole point was that he sucks and is pretty quickly shelved. And it also sucked pretty hard, and was probably the worst bit of Slott Spider-man I've read thus far. But, like, he only lasted 3 issues or something in Spidey. What... what did he even DO in his own series?

I still remember when the whole Spider-Fancommunity thought that Alpha was the Superior Spider-Man 😂

His book was actually good from what I remember, but his initial story in ASM made the the character DoA

Cage #1

Hory shit this was gooooooooooood. like I had fun reading this, smiling the whole time. Loved the cameo
Scott being scott made me lol

The lingo makes sense for the time period , and as a black nothing offended me.

I would be more offended if I was Asian reading this tbh. The drawing of the asian guy didn't feel quite right.

but yea yah had me worried for nothing

5/5 this shit is my jam. hell yea.

I'd buy batwoman monthly if I didn't think it was just going to be another book for large batverse crossovers.

um what?

Monster Men is dope as hell

Also, DC is doing a super good job of having every book impact one another so DC might be a bad bet for you until they somehow stop selling well and they have to scrap the whole initiative.

The synopsis of her Rebirth series ties directly into plotlines set up since Batman Rebirth.

Catching up on last week's stuff before I dive into this week:

Spider-Woman and Sam Wilson's Cap were really good. Sam's book in particular continues to be a standout title. I love how conflicting his situation is and how he's getting pulled from so many different directions trying to do the right thing. And the last few pages made the whole US Agent aspect quite tragic.

Death Of X #1

outside of the art, pretty solid issue. This is how you convey two opposing factions. The inhumans seem likable, yet the Mutants have suffered a great loss.

Hoping Scott has learned from AvX going into this. Blackbolt don't take kindly to threats.

I'd prefer "Scott". He bears no resemblance to the established character.

I think the last crossover i've liked was Sinestro Corps War, including Marvel, so i do try to steer clear of books that i know are going to end up in crossovers. The only DC book i'm currently buying monthly is Wonder Woman and it's been a boring origin story and regular story so far, dropped Batman and Suicide Squad. I might pick up the first Superman trade though.

ahhhh yes, another fun Title. art work was iffy in some places but the overall heart, and dialog of the book shone through. I just love these characters interacting, and based on the next issue young Cyke is about to do what he does best.

There's also a Boom linewide sale.

I don't know how to compare that to Valiant.

Anyone know if the spire is out in trade yet? I haven't no boom books, but I want to read that and the woods. The Orlando book when it comes out too. They own archaia and do a lot of kids books, they're cool for that.

If archaia are on sale too, then check out mouse guard peeps.

Jessica Jones #1

Just damn...I didn't want Bendis to do this but if anybody does it..it has to be him.

and yea tons of cameos, but the best part was hearing Jessica motherfucking Jones give her POV on these heros.

for example
calling Strange by Porn stache

but damn JJ is out of shape. she hasn't been in the game in a while.

So far this is my favorite release of the week(Marvel wise)

5/5 Bendis better tread carefully

Mouse Guard is indeed included in the boom sale. Fantastic series by David Petersen. He writes and draws the main series himself with painstaking detail. Some of his method blogs where he shows scale models he built of entire areas (areas may be an excited exaggeration, think buildings) from the book are incredible. The legends series features some great creators doing their own short stories set in the world. Take a chance if it interests you at all, they are awesome. The world building and history/lore is especially great.

Continuing Luke Cage with E11,
and goddamn is Diamondback the goofiest motherfucker. He's so damn silly.

"This is my favorite part."
"What?"
"When the panties drop."

Like, what the fuck? And we lost Cottonmouth for this goofy motherfucker? Shiiiiiiiiiiit.

Also, comics:

Oh I've always wanted to read those

Alas my backlog is a bit too unwieldy at the moment

They're really strong and take everything we like about cape books and get to the core of what makes them work in a way that only Waid and Busiek really can.

In terms of DC titles people would like to see announced:
JSA for sure (is it possible that that's what Simone will write as Wildcat would fit her cat hint, and she made some reference that could be interpreted as Johnny Thunder).

Legion if done well (which seems unlikely based on recent history).

I'd like to see either Zatanna or Power Girl get a fun title (like they both had pre Nu52).

Shazam

Booster Gold hasn't done anything in a while and could be interesting.

I wonder if DC will try to do anything that expands the line. When they started Nu52 that was a real focus for them as they had war, horror, western, and fantasy titles. I think the quality of Rebirth is much higher on average, but it's also much more focused on core cape books.

Damn ha, if not for the Kanji I could sound that out. I have been miserably lazy with Kanji though. I am a heathen (regarding the wolverine panel above).

Sunstone is part of the sale, i've read the first three volumes and wanted to continue but right now i'm tied up with other series.

Okay JStein, based on what you've told us -

-Citizen Jack if she digs politics, especially if she hates the Donald. That book can be cathartic. And scary.
-House of Penance if she likes weird creepy shit and tense stories about the nature of madness. One issue left technically but one to keep an eye on
-Klaus just finished so the trade isn't quite out yet but should be soon. This is Morrison at his most accessible...it starts simple but gets pretty crazy by the end. A good choice if she likes fairy tales and a great Christmas gift
-Six-Gun Gorilla if she enjoys off the wall weird but fun stuff and experiencing joy
-Weavers if she likes creepy Lovecraftian monsters and mob stories. One issue to go on this book as well
-Wytches if she wants something Halloweeny. There's another volume of this launching soon but the story in the first volume is self contained.

That's all newer stuff, here are a few of my all time favorites:
Persepolis
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Asterios Polyp (this I think has a high chance of being a good fit)
Maus
The Nightly News

Unless I dun goofed somewhere, these are all short, self contained, single volume stories. And no capes! I hope you see something she might like. :)

This was a really great post, thank you for taking the time with it!! Going to be looking into all of these, because you made them sound great. I went ahead and bolded some stuff she's really into too. Thanks again! ComicsGaf is incredible.

True Story Swear To God.

Youre welcome

Thank you!! Looking into it!

She's actually finished reading Infinite Jest? Lock it down, put a ring on it.

Well, at some point, have her read All-Star Superman to make sure she's the one. That's not a comic recommendation for the purpose of your post, just a life rec.

She even has an infinite jest tattoo!
Thank you for the life rec, puts a good perspective on why I would give her that book haha

You're very welcome! I'm glad you found it useful, we love recommending books. :) Make sure to stop back in and let us know what she thinks of whatever she reads!

That sales got me all caught up on Giant Days. Now I've got volume three and issues 13 to 19 to read.

Anything else from boom that I need to pick up?

If you've got kids, there's:
Bee & Puppycat
Golden Vance
Over the Garden Wall
Steven Universe
And Ryan North (Squirrel Girl) run on Adventure Time

If you want non-baby books, check out:
Jonesy
Grant Morrison's Klaus
Oh Killstrike
The Spire
Welcome Back

Echo, have you read any of Culbard's lovecraft adaptations? If not, you'd love those, going by house of penance. He actually did the king in yellow recently too
