IST has updated!
Woooo

Edit: Oh! Manhattan Projects OHC is today!
And Ellis's Moon Knight! Didn't realize that was out so soon.

Lol. I'm playing Lego Marvel Super Heroes right now on PC, and there's a part of the game where you get to go to Marvel HQ and see Alonso and Joey Q, I can't wait to get there and take frustrations out on Mr. $3.99.

I wish TT (the devs) had the balls to make an achievement referencing One More Day, it would have been a really funny dig at Marvel in a game full of goofy humor.

I don't get why you think pricing is an editorial decision rather than, y'know... one made by accounting or something.

and it's done

Beautiful

That's not my Spider-Gwen!

(Though it's obviously well drawn.)

Yeah I like the "baggy" aesthetic more from Spider-gwen, don't like the dude make it the old tight spandex looks.. does I can bombard dude's twitter? the face is pretty tho.

So preparing a file to be colored in Photoshop is incredibly tedious work when it's not large enough to where the thinnest inked line isn't at least 3 pixels across... I spent about 3 hrs just trying different prep methods. Anything with shading is basically impossible for me at this point in time, so don't expect to see any colored Harley pages from me any time soon, Messi. :(

Well, artists generally work with images that are much higher-res than that.

So many IST orders for me this month. Fables Deluxe 9 is also out, taking the collection to the end of the War.

Will order Ellis Moon Knight but do you guys think this is a decent collection?

Moon Knight Epic Collection TP Bad Moon Rising

WEREWOLF BY NIGHT (1972) #32-33; MARVEL SPOTLIGHT (1971) #28-29; DEFENDERS (1972) #47-50; PETER PARKER, THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN (1976) #22-23; MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE (1974) #52; MOON KNIGHT (1980) #1-4 - plus material from HULK MAGAZINE #11-15, #17-18 and #20; and MARVEL PREVIEW #21.

Oh, I know... I've just had a hell of a time finding files large enough to practice on.

Well hopefully I'll have something for you to practice your coloring on whenever I start feeling better and can bring myself to do more drawing! As of now, the only thing I'm capable of is planting myself on the couch and watching Top Gear.

I also did finish volume 2 of Elephantmen since it's a light enough read that I can get the full enjoyment out of it even with my head being all foggy.
I'm pretty sure I won't be ordering any more volumes of Elephantmen though. There were a few high points, but overall, the writing and the art were just amateurish.

I know that it's probably Alan Fine (he's the President after all). The orders come from the top usually, with accounting making the suggestions. Still, those two are the ones in the game so I might as well screw around (plus I am not a fan of the senior editorial board "old boys club")... :P

I totally get the comic books are expensive to make these days, I just find it funny that Marvel tries all these elaborate things to get the movie audience, when it's price and organization keeping them away. I've talked to a bunch of friends and family with some mild interest and they tell me exactly why they don't touch monthlies or the latest trades. But hey, why don't DC and Marvel take the next step and increase Canadian prices to fit with the weak dollar, everyone else is doing it!

Did you check out dexter vines deviant art account? He's got plenty full res inked pages on there

Yeah and thank you very much for the heads up, I saved a few of his images and a few more from Ryan Sook's website, who also has files up of a similar size. Unfortunately, I'd optimally need files almost 2x bigger than even those... it's crazy but true.

So why is no one talking about Fraction and Zdarsky's sex tips book? This is gonna be hilarious.

I am definitely getting this bad-boy on release day. Nothing like getting sex advice from comic book creators... this century sure isn't gonna be much like the last one!

You take care of yourself, friendo. Comics superstardom can wait a few more days!

Ales Kot signing tomorrow out of nowhere. Oh shit.

Anyone going, please ask him for me if he has any plans for Black Widow and Bucky, please and thank you. I know he's the Man On The Wall and everything, but still.

Rafa and Kipp, you guys are going places, but don't forget to relax! Can't have the next Young Guns burn out over stress and WalMart overtime shifts.

On my way to Eeeeevil Richards, finally got around to reading Ultimatum and the surrounding issues.

Fucking hell, the fuck was marvel doing at the time? That was absolute trash on a horrendously grotesque level. The x-men at the time, with all of that "logan is the first manufactured mutant. Also, logan blood is mutie cocaine and everybody gets claws. EVERYBODY." are an absolute embarrassment. Ultimatum itself..... yeesh.

Spidey was sorta good, tho, and the issues showing samuel l. jackson's, hulk and cap's origins were okayish.

How the heck did this event go past the editors? Dear gods...

What size are you setting up your files to?

Optimally 600 DPI, but 300 DPI would be sufficient in most cases... even the larger scans I've found (such as the ones you posted) are 150 DPI or under. Honestly, the file size can vary depending on how thick the thinnest inked lines are, but I basically want to be able to remove any non-black pixels from the image so the inks can lay over the other layers (which would be my colors). If doing so makes the finer lines too jagged, the file can't be used properly unless I wanted to digitally retrace the inks myself, which I don't have the skill or patience for. I'm going to try a new method of isolating the inks tonight that may allow me to work with files closer to 150 DPI.

holy shit at that punisher "what". what is this story about anyway, ironman with super villains? is this Axis?

oh, right! I need to submit my comic votes for this month -- missed last month due to PAX.

If you ain't readin the Sex Tips at the end of Sex Criminals you're missing like half the joy of the book. One issue had Chip making fun of a guy who wrote in in bottom the margins. A recent issue had a real life sex educator answering letters, so it's not always dick jokes, too.

600 is overkill IMO 300 is standard for print resolution. I'm confused as to why you want to remove the white pixels from the inks layer. Why not set it to multiply or darken (assuming you are using photoshop)? You wouldn't be able to remove the white pixels from the image cleanly unless the image was just black and white pixels with no grey

Bendis text bubbles tend to be interchangable, which I think is the biggest failing of a team book. Characters have to have distinct personalities that stand out from the other characters, especially with page counts getting divided between members. Claremont's Uncanny X-Men had is pretty overbaked by modern standards with the wordy dialog and the accent he would build in, but its damn effective. Storm's "Be that as it may, we cannot stay in this building any longer!" doesn't sound like Wolverine's "Quit yappin' bub, the whole flamin' building's coming down!" doesn't sound like Rogue, "Ah hate to interrupt ya'll, but this whole place is quakin'!" doesn't sound like Nightcrawler's "Pardon me Mein Freund, but might we take this stimulating conversation to a less dangerous environment?". Its exaggerated, but the superhero team book is an exaggerated form. The great ones(Suicide Squad, Secret Six, the good Fantastic Four comics, Morrison/Case Doom Patrol, Copra, etc) can practically take out the visuals, look at the dialog bubbles, and you know who's talking because of the voice that's been defined for them. Hell even We3 has distinct characterization for each member, and that's all "ST1111NK BOSS!!11" and "uh oh".

I remember reading one Rick Remender interview, he said for Uncanny X-Force he would have a hundred different topics, like favorite pizza toppings or abortion, and then write how each of his character would respond. I thought that was a fun exercise to get in the head of his cast, how they would talk, how they feel about things compared to others, and that's where the interesting team dynamics come from. That's how you get the drama within the team when you can talk about the consequences and morality of a self-appointed hit squad when everyone has clear, defined voices and motivations colliding with each other.

Reading some more Avengers, I think it exactly boils down to this for me. All the character's lines seem to be just setup's for that one "cool" panel in the next page. It wouldn't be too much of a problem if that "cool" panel wasn't just one of those 'he's standing behind me, isn't he' type of throwaway ones.

I haven't read any Rick Remender books, but I have Fear Agent vol 1 coming in tomorrow.

Am I the only on here who doesn't hate Bendis. I read all of Uncanny X-Men vol 3 last night and in still waiting for the point that it apparently goes to shit. But I am really enjoying it. I think I like this set of characters more than All-New X-Men.

I don't hate Bendis. One of the first non-European comics I read (and loved) was Powers. I love Alias as well. That's what made GOTG so disappointing for me.

How have the Green Lantern books been? Ethan Van Sciver posted some of his art for Godhead on Twitter and that shit is looking tight.

I love it, but I was a big fan of P4A. I've only played online all day.

:(

Cheska interested in saving money? WAT?

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but I can't stop.

So real talk, last week we paid off all of my credit cards. I agreed to be more conscientious about my spending. So until I beat the games I'm playing now, I'm not going to pick up much of anything else. I'm hoping I'll have some done by the time Bayonetta comes out.

Cheska got in trouble. XD
