Dumb question time!

I have a 550 watt PSU and this only supports a load of up to 275 watts. What does this exactly mean in my situation? Is it essentially worthless since it doesn't support my total wattage or will the battery backup time be extremely limited.

Thank you very much for the help.

Are you thinking of replacing your 550 with this 275? Don't. No reason to go down in load support. I'm actually thinking of getting this not for our PC at home but for some other components... we tend to have brief outtages in my area alot(redout? grayout? I've forgotten what they are called).

Thanks for the quick reply! Also thank you for posting a nice deal.

So essentially this is worthless to me (not replacing PSU at all). I have no option but in purchasing one that supports atleast 550 for my PC correct?

EDIT: Thank you very much DarienA, you've been most helpful.

From a FAQ:

How do I determine what size UPS to get?
UPSs are sized by their volt-amp (VA) load. To calculate the VA load of your system check the UL label for the operating voltage and amperage drawn. Add the amperages of each component to be powered by the UPS and multiply the number by the voltage (120V for US applications). This number is your VA load and the minimum size required. It is good idea to size your UPS at least 30% larger than the minimum VA load to leave room for future needs.
