Couldn't watch the game as I was working. Saw penalties though. So I take it Italy played a pretty good game? A lot of missed chances, though? I'm actually surprised we took it to penalties as I wasn't expecting much from the team today.

It does give some idea of the strength of the teams competing. I think the people who participate are the winners or top contendors of their continental football regions.

Organizers think of it as a world cup prep. I think players do as well. As a fan it can take months to get over a world cup loss (or even never) but when Italy lost to Spain here a few days ago I got over it in a day. Even some teams benches have been laughing after a goal has been scored against them. I don't think a lot of people take it seriously.
