Corpse Party Book of Shadows |OT| Soup is Good for your Eyes.

We already kinda knew Yoshie had appeared in the real world before, thanks to the opening of the first game -- remember, the story Ayumi told before the ritual was pretty much the tale of Principal Takamine Yanagihori killing himself, and Yoshie "slipping and falling" down the stairs, haunting the halls at 7pm on rainy nights afterward.

Despite being established, though, it was never really known for sure that it was anything other than an urban legend.

-Tom

That's true. I also remembered that if you die in HHE all traces of your existence are erased in the real world, so no one would even know if people have gone missing due to Yoshie (I'm assuming that being killed by Yoshie in the real world has the same effect?).

I also noticed the old woman kills Yui a bunch of times in the Wrong Ends but the voice usually changes to Yoshie so I can only assume from this that Yoshie was simply masquerading as the old woman or Yui was simply imagining it was the old woman until she actually got close enough.

In the real ending Yoshie grabs Yui's arm and injures her leaving a bruise. After waking up from the supposed "dream" she still has the pencil case which she rationalized away but the bruise does pop up again on the rooftop which pretty much seals the deal as the encounter being real, perhaps the old woman's beat down on Yoshie caused her to be confined to HHE? Resulting in events changing so that they were perceived as a dream (I have a strong feeling that Tsukasa was lying when he said he didn't remember anything, perhaps so Yui wouldn't be worred). When Yui finally wakes up from her flashback, you can see the bruise on her arm in the still image with her, Mochida and Monet.

I'm speculating that since Mayu and Nana had similar dark bruises on their bodies and experienced deaths related to those bruises (they more or less acted like markers), Yui's going to experience something similar once she's in HHE again. I'd like to think I'm wrong as I would like her to survive this time around but the precedent they set in the previous chapters is telling me not to get my hopes up.

Just posting my thoughts here so I can confirm right/wrong once I've covered the related subjects in later chapters.

Am I the only one who noticed something a little odd?
It seems that students across different time periods get put in the same instances regardless of when they actually exist. Time seems very fuzzy there.
When people die in there, it marks them as dead no matter what you do afterwards, even in time loops. However, something was different this time, but it does seem to have taken place after the first death somehow. I wonder if you could take advantage of HHE's time fuzziness to go to before the first death in the first instance and prevent that, causing the death sentence to have never existed?

Ow, my head. Trying to comprehend HHE is hard.

I think blind spoilers are considered in bad taste.

No idea what your spoilered text deals with so if I haven't covered the appropriate chapters I've have spoiled myself on whatever you're talking about. Just a tip for the future.

Just finished Chapter 4.

Sachiko has more influence in the real world than I originally anticipated. It seems to me that Naho had the best chance out of everyone at somehow defeating Sachiko considering how calm she was when Sachiko was in the recording room with her and Sayaka plus her knowledge of the occult. When you think about it, Sayaka got absolutely screwed. She went to HHE for what? To help Naho find Kibiki, except she didn't see Naho at all after warping there. She basically went there to die after days of wandering. And Nana's death was made even worse here. That image of her lying on the table with her mouth filled with blood is probably the most disturbing one I've seen yet.

Looking at Chapter 5, 9 possible endings. I don't know how I'll get them all without a guide. At least the one at GameFAQs only covers up to Chapter 2. I guess I'll manage somehow.

That spoiler's just an observation about Heavenly Host, it's not even really a spoiler, just a question about how the time loops work.

Also, I believe a very stomach-turning revelation about how HH works is made in BoS.
That a victim continues to feel pain, and can't 'black out' to avoid it, only death frees them, and technically that doesn't either.

Re: Chapter 4 -

Naho never had a chance of stopping Sachiko. The Darkening took her, and she murdered Hibiki.

And I believe the Darkening took Naho because of what happened to Sayaka because of her.

Jesus Christ,
Chapter 3 seemed like it was never going to end. I thought I was playing Xenosaga High School Edition >_> yeah there were some scary/adrenaline-inducing moments but that could have definitely been cut (at least) in half...

On to Chapter 4!

Well, first, Seiko isn't a guy—and for good or bad, a guy making those kinds of advancements on a girl, and a girl doing the same, are often looked up differently in society.
Late reply but, yes, I agree that this is true but what I'm saying is that I think it's for the bad.

And, I'll be honest—when I was in high school, I had friends with whom we'd mutually do things that could now—or by an outsider—be considered some form of sexual harassment. Some friendships exist where things like that happen, and it's something both parties are okay with, even if one side seems to protest. I never get the sense that Naomi is legitimately bothered by Seiko's antics, or else those antics might bother me.
I think this is just where we'd have to agree to disagree - my impression is that Naomi tolerates Seiko's behavior but does not welcome or enjoy it, not even deep down inside underneath a veneer of protest. Her protests read as pretty genuine to me, but Seiko just bulldozes right through them and tends to win over and she's the dominant personality in the friendship.

From what I've seen so far Naomi seems confused about their relationship, she remarks early on about how outsiders might see them as a couple.

She and Seiko do have a deep relationship, but considering
Naomi's decision making was affected by the Darkening it doesn't seem like we'll get an answer on her true feelings. Or maybe we did, since I'm only on Chapter 5 I have no idea if there are more interactions between the two (somehow) and I don't really want to find out until I reach that point if it exists.

Based on Naomi's internal monologue during the start of Chapter 1, I think it's at least a little mutual.

Just finished chapter 3. Really great.

As much as I liked the first game, I'd put BoS above it in every way. It's really, really excellent.

I would say the same thing after finishing up all of the endings of Chapters 1 & 2... with the following comments.

I'm hoping (and am confident that I will) to see scenarios play out that aren't just
dead character from the first game getting additional development only to die in a far more excruciating fashion than they did the first time around
.

I'd also like to see
the deja vu plot device actually result in a dynamic course correction scenario with meaning
before this game is through.

I'm also not enamored with the generic sound effect they've got in place for a character vomiting. For some reason, I actually remember a character wretching and acting out that unpleasantness in the first game and not some lame water drop sound effect that signifies that a character puked. It's cheesy and it takes me out of the game.

Lastly, I'm a little tired of Yoshiki Kishinuma being such a cliche "earnest guy without any faults" trope. He's easily the weak link of this cast. I felt that way in the first game and his involvement in Chapter 2 of this one has done little to alter that perception. I suppose it's kind of essential given what a nutbar Ayumi is... but still.

Aside from those minor gripes, I'm very happy and looking forward to diving into the remaining 5 chapters of the game.

Incidentally, playing this game with headphones is so essential, I'd almost want XSEED to make it mandatory by eliminating audio for people who play without them.

So I JUST finished Book of Shadows.

...You guys are working on Blood Drive already, right? RIGHT?

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Blood Drive isn't out yet nor has there been any official details.

How do I get endings 6 and 7 on chapter 5?

Also, that chapter was crushing, particularly when you watch the extended ending for it.

Short answer, if you can guess where this goes: Pick [To the Second Floor].

Shangri-La Ending 6 and 7:

While playing as Nari and Chihaya, play as normally until you reach the room where you find the camera battery. Instead of picking it up immediately, move away from the room, then come back and pick it up. Lightning will flash again when you re-enter the room.

Events will play out differently this time. [Pick To the Second Floor] when prompted.

Aha. I would have never guessed that. Cheers!

..Huh, actuallly, I just redid that without picking up the thing how I said to do so and I got the altered thing anyway, so maybe it was something else. ._. Report back if it works though!

It did work. I think you just have to play through again after you clear the chapter though, because you get an extended version of the normal ending too. The extra endings were as horrible as I expected.

That chapter was weirdly frustrating in a couple of spots.

The Xseed staff must have stomachs of steel to write down some of the stuff, because I was pretty disgusted and horrified for a lot of the descriptions.

Vomit inducing at times. I can't handle extreme gore and violence.

Spoilers for the final chapter obviously:
Ahaha, someone finally got there. I figured the final chapter would have to end on a cliffhanger somewhere after they introduced it as a Prologue, spent the whole chapter waiting for it to end... didn't think it'd end THERE though. Only when they've witnessed that ending can people understand why there was so much rage when the romantic comedy spinoff thing that is 2U got announced instead of the actual Blood Drive game.

Such a good last chapter though, even if it ended on such huge cliffhanger. The rest of the game lacked the levels of tension the original did for me because it's a mix of either not canon or you sort of know who gets out alive anyway, but it all came flooding back in the last chapter when you're back in completely unknown territory and have no idea how it'll end.
That was an amazing ending.

Am I correct in interpreting that
Hinoe's appearance at the end of the Book of Shadows resurrection ceremony was essentially her sacrificing herself in order to save her sister and Naomi
? I'm finding it hard to perceive it any other way.

Also, curious to find out why
Naho and Kibiki still have records that prove their existence after dying in Heavenly Host Elementary. Naho would make sense for her blog to spread the Sachiko ceremony but Kibiki has no corollary reason to not have been erased like the others
.

Despite Blood Drive being in a holding pattern, it would appear that Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient is on track for release on Japanese PCs in a couple months. The trailers I've seen for it are pretty sweet... hope it gets ported to the Vita and adapted for release by XSEED at some point (no doubt before Trails in the Sky 2).

Anyone know if Makoto Kedouin is creatively involved at all in that project?

There's also the 2U Sachiko's Birthday game (which I'm not expecting to see get adapted) and a number of ongoing manga series (I believe Book of Shadows and Another Child are still being released). Plenty of stuff to scope out to pass the time.

Lastly, are there any concrete details out there on what we can expect from the Tortured Souls OAV series being released this summer? It's looking like just an animated retelling of the events of the Blood Covered: Repeated Fear that we're already familiar with. Could be interesting if this 4-part series is successful and localized as it could be the first time we see Corpse Party characters get dubbed in English.

Why would it have to be ported to the Vita? We've already released PC games through Steam, after all. No reason we couldn't pursue Dead Patient for a Steam release! In fact, I think Brittany and I very much plan on holding Ken hostage until he agrees to let us do just that. ;)

Oh, most definitely. He's been involved in every Corpse Party game to date -- even 2U, though to a lesser extent than any of the others.

Dead Patient is being developed by Team GrisGris directly, though (albeit under the name GrindHouse), so he's definitely directly involved, since he pretty much IS GrisGris.

Just finished. Bonkers ending. Mitsuki is the best of the new characters. Surprised how little Mochida showed up. Still hate Yuka. Chapter 8 was amazing.

I think it'll be in my top ten for the year. Really enjoyed it. My one complaint is that it never really lives up to the astoundingly good opening video,

That would be fantastic. :)

Still hate Yuka.

I didn't hate her as much as in CP1. It really helped to know what she actually was thinking all the time.
And her role as
"big sister" of Sachiko for a few hours
also helped her being less whiney and annoying.

I just finished the last chapter, really loved it. Enough to semi-necro-bump this thread in fact. It's interesting how it seemed like there was much more new art in the last chapter than most others, even if though it was on the shorter side. Of course, it just leaves you starving for more. Which, needless to say, I'd buy for any platform at a high price.

I also really liked the "soulful testimonies", especially the log rant by Asami Imai and Gintoki's Tomokazu Sugita's "Darkness Bath". Everyone should listen to those.

Oh, and since wyrdwad is here I'd just like to say that I love the writing in this game (and Blood Covered for that matter). I can't put the finger on what exactly it is that makes it stand out to me compared to other games, but it does. The only slight issue I could point out is that in just a few cases, dialogue as written doesn't sound like anything anyone might actually say, particularly not a student. I don't know if that's an issue with the translation or with the original source material though. In any case, those are rare cases and don't really distract from the generally high quality of the writing.

LTTCP! Bought the game day one but for whatever excuse I have been prostponing this one for far too long!

Completed chapter 1. Endings weren't exactly hard to get but the sheer amount in the next one scares me :0. Some of the stuff in the chapter was a lil cringeworthy (in a non horror way!) but I shall forgive cause it is Seiko after all! So good to see her again :3

I'm also pretty late to playing this. I planned to buy and play it when it first came out but never got around to it since I got overwhelmed with work and so many games at the time that I never picked BoS up. I watched half of it on youtube and now that I'm beating the first game with my friends(I already played it but I wanted to get my friends into the series) I'm going to finally buy BoS and of course, beat it with them.

There should be a Corpse Party community thread or something to discuss the whole series in :p These threads have been pretty dead though I guess it doesn't help there hasn't been any information on BD(though I should avoid it until I beat BoS)

Hey guys, I just finished this game last night and I loved it, specially the extra chapter with that tweest (
poor onee-chan
). I got all the endings, all the music tracks, all the interviews, but I missed ONE cg artwork, just one ;_;

Can anyone tell where can I get it, please?

Thank you!

So Memories of Fear did a translation of the prequel manga to Blood Drive.

It was a free preorder bonus, so can it be shared here?

Freaky stuff. Continues right after

the death at the end of BoS' true ending.
