Court set to rule on Apple vs Samsung case in a few minutes

S2 and similar got a few no's there.. its their more popular handsets where they'll want to be found less infringing.

The software stuff inherent to using a touch screen... God damn. That's all I'm going to say. There will be kickback to all this. I hope google drag them over the coals with Motorola patents, I really do.

Damages mean nothing. That's not nearly the amount Apple was asking, but it's not like either company are hurting. The real gut of this are the infringement claims.

A lot of people in here arguing about these decisions being bad for the consumer, but why is it bad for the consumer for companies to focus on creating innovative designs? Probably going to get crucified for saying it, but that's how I pretty much feel about this whole ordeal. There can be competition without every phone having to be a black rectangle with the same touchscreen mechanics.

A jury in the US is never going to go against Apple in a case like this.

That's just the truth.

If this is so bad for Samsung that means everyone is getting boned by Apple. This is not good. Not sure why the hell Google cant team up with Samsung and co and go against Apple.

Though really... 1 billion isn't that much is it? I think Samsung is thinking "Worth it" right now. They are by far the biggest Android phone manufacturer and they have some good mindshare with consumers. They sell millions of galaxy phones.

What enrages me the most is that Apple DID NOT FUCKING INVENT most of these things, but this jury is buying that they did. It's like when Steve Jobs first revealed the iPhone, and outright lied everyone in the face by saying "we invented this amazing thing called multitouch". No, Steve, you didn't invent that, nor did anyone at Apple. It existed long, long before you ever put it in the iPhone. And that's the way it goes with most things Apple claims to have invented. It's all bullshit, and that's why I'm so fucking pissed off at Apple. I don't deny that they made the smartphone market something it wasn't before the iPhone, but that's beside the point. They're still assholes.

Apple is the Thomas Edison of the electronic world!

Pinch to zoom is pretty obvious, yet its a patent. How do you get around that?

Willfully misleading a consumer with the visual appearance of a product or it's packaging.

For example, if RC cola put out a can that looked just like a Coca-Cola can.

Shape of the can is the same. I'm cornfused.

One BILLION dollars... Wow.

Seriously?

What the fuck.

Can't believe they got nailed for Pinch to Zoom and the scroll bounce back. HOW ARE THOSE PATENTS?

The patent system is garbage. I'm not saying Samsung is innocent (The original Galaxy phone was definitely a rip, especially with the touch wizstuff). But jeez.

EDIT: $1.5 BILLION? What the fuck.

Kinda funny that $1+billion is likely the least important part of this verdict. Maybe this will be something of a bump for Windows Phone GAF.

Some people ask "Greatest pc guy of all time, Gates or Jobs?"

I say "Wozniak." ;D

I don't get these damages numbers. Why are the damages so high on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 but the damages for the Galaxy and Galaxy S were 0 when they were found to be infringing more things.

Seems like the Jury just flipped a coin.

Didn't Google sort of throw Samsung under the bus not too long ago on this? I doubt Apple will make the mistake of taking them on in the same fashion as Samsung.

i dont think google gives a shit about samsung on trade dress or whatever else they did to their OS to copy Apple. It was pretty clear that at least 2 of Apples patents should have been thrown out for prior art, so the appeals will be interesting.

Combine that with the same phone but on 2 different carriers one infringing and one not infringing, this verdict seems... dumb?

The black rectangle ish wasn't an issue. The -software- is the issue. Software patents get a lot of software devs on the forum worked up in a froth.

Dude. Apple is not some evil fucking overlord taking over the planet. Just a tech company with good ideas that gain a TON of traction. Other companies directly respond and get burned by your shitty patent system.

"Samsung and co go against Apple". Hilarious.

Agreed, but it seems like (hard to say quite yet) that some of the things that got upheld in Apple's favor are completely ridiculous, set a really bad precedent, and will probably cause issues with people being afraid to do something that could be construed as similar because they don't want to be sued. Or alternatively, having to pay high licensing fees.

Apple/Samsung ties are over, you can't demand a billion dollar check from your partner and just grin as if nothing wrong happened.
