its clear that the judge is a apple fanboy ...

I wonder if apple will send something to the judge... Like a new iphone or something like that.

( fail trolling:( )

The thing is, that's their main purpose. Their purpose isn't to spread the iPhone just for the sake of it, if they can make more money and yet have less people use the iPhone they'll do that.

We talk about a company that is defending itself with utterly ludicrous patents (and getting away with it), they don't give a shit about the consumer, they care about money. No one in their right mind with a decent understanding of algorithms or design, of patents or ideas in general can actually agree with this.

As a mathematician I'm absolutely disgusted by these decisions. They make me sick, because the possible implications are gargantuan and horrifying.
As a computer engineer I understand you being upset but some of the infringement from samsung was clearly willful and shameful.

Scorecard so far:
* Jury finds Samsung infringement of Apple utility, design patents for some (though not all) products
* Jury finds willful infringement on 5 of 6 patents.
* Jury upholds Apple utility, design patents
* Jury upholds Apple trade dress '983

People got a second job for it. Like the PS3.

I owned one back then and it was the best time to be an iPhone owner. Now even your grandmother owns one.

so... with pretty clear prior art no patents were invalidated?
I hope you're not referring to pinch to zoom or the bounce back, because those "prior" devices functioned wholly differently. The former wasn't object oriented, it was just a zoom. The latter didn't function nearly the same - there's a reason Samsung didn't actually bring that pad to court as evidence.

It's silly for us to assume this is wholly bad for the industry. Some of these claims are absurd, namely the icons and such. The trade dress appears wholly intentional to me - particularly with the Fascinate and the first Galaxy S line.

I'll say this, Samsung has a less than sterling reputation domestically in Korea as a company that steals and competes on scale rather than quality. Vis-a-Vis, as a Korean, I assume that they're in the wrong when it comes to legal disputes in this sphere. Brand confusion seems to be their MO in other industries - the washing machines that looked more and more like the Maytags, the fridges, the top opening freezers made popular by other smaller Korean firms, etc.

The country as a whole has strange relations with the Chaebols (Samsung, LG, Daewoo, because they're effectively state-backed monopolies that get caught every 3 years bribing somebody. Not to mention they have horrendous employment cycles, where they cut through anyone over 40 all in one go and hire up recent grads to take their place. At the same time, it's a point of pride that a Korean firm is actually getting to the name recognition of a Sony or such.

This is seriously one of the worst days in software history. My mind is melting on the software patents they upheld for Apple. What a farce.

You will be alright Samsung. Just keep on pumping out those commercials depicting all iPhone users as dumb hippies. Those were such genius.

Samsung is doomed! Software development is doomed! Black rectangles are doomed! Innovation is doomed! Competition is doomed! We're all doomed!

The hyperbole and bitter tears in this thread are amazing to watch. It seems like some of you guys are really losing your shit over this.

Yeah, a lot of the stuff from Samsung was blatant. Some of this stuff seems completely ridiculous in Apple's favor though, mostly the stuff that seems to be even ridiculous to exist as a patent. In any case though, Samsung is totally fucked.

There we're 700 charges. Are you telling me that if you did your job correctly you could get it all done in 3 days? Fucking cases over much smaller issues take longer then this farce.

Perhaps they didn't find the decisions to be very difficult to make? Or it's all a sham! Yeah, that's the explanation! They came to a conclusion you don't like so clearly they did it wrong.

So maybe Nintendo got a chance to sue sony and MS for using a controller to play videogames on a tv screen?

If not nintendo invented the videogames then I guess the company that did could sue the shit out of Sony, Ninty and MS :)

Apple, Love your phone but hate your damn company !

What enrages me the most is that Apple DID NOT FUCKING INVENT most of these things, but this jury is buying that they did. It's like when Steve Jobs first revealed the iPhone, and outright lied everyone in the face by saying "we invented this amazing thing called multitouch". No, Steve, you didn't invent that, nor did anyone at Apple. It existed long, long before you ever put it in the iPhone. And that's the way it goes with most things Apple claims to have invented. It's all bullshit, and that's why I'm so fucking pissed off at Apple. I don't deny that they made the smartphone market something it wasn't before the iPhone, but that's beside the point. They're still assholes.
