Court set to rule on Apple vs Samsung case in a few minutes

Odd that the Galaxy Tab has so far avoided most of the charges, I thought everyone said the case was strongest there?

As an aside there seems to be no consistency at all as to which phones were found to be infringing and which are not.

Do you really honestly believe that?

Also I'm really enjoying all of the live tweets that have "?" at the end of them. This is gonna take a while to get everything straight.

Do you honestly believe that?

I do. Apple wants its stuff in the hands of consumers. Nothing touched the iPhone for awhile but Apple still pushed to get the iPhone at $200 for all the poors who couldn't afford it at $600. Competition is good, of course.

This reminds me of how people attach to trivial non-issues and boogeymen instead of discussing and resolving the big picture problems. Apple, Samsung, Google, etc are all companies living in a terrible world of bullshit patent law, and rooting one way or the other here ignores the real problems in order to have a good guy and a bad guy to help you mentally parse and compartmentalize your opinion.

The difference is that Apple actually likes the US patent system (one of their final remarks to the jury on the last day of the trial was something like "if you choose to decide in favor of Apple on these matters, you will have reaffirmed the US patent system") - which I guess isn't very surprising, since it's serving them so well. Google, on the other hand, thinks the current system is stupid and inhibits innovation, just like the rest of the world.

What a lot of people cheering apple in this thread don't realize is -what- is being awarded to Apple right now - it's software, not even software design - software utility, like tapping to zoom and shit.

That's fucking horrible, a horrible precedent.

Invalidity now.

Are the patents valid?

RECTANGLE INVALID PLS. K THX BYE

Seriously, if they don't invalidate rectangle, shit is FUCKED UP

Ah yes, google. Lol

Assuming they don't have free Iphones waiting for them at home after this.
Apple is gonna quintuple their prices now, no freebies. Haven't you been reading this thread?

It's all bullshit that such things can be patented.

All patents are valid

I find this extremely fascinating..

How will Samsung conduct business with Apple now? Money doesn't heal everything, Samsung will be bitter for years.

Ok this is clearly a terrible decision now..

They should have at least invalidated the two patents with clear provable prior art(bounceback and pich to zoom) if not more. There is no way those patents should be valid given the idea was around a decade earlier.

Software development doomed, confirmed. :(

For serious. All the stuff people have been clamouring about that is 'blatant copying' seems to be getting a pass.

All the stuff that -really really really- shouldn't be awarded to Apple is getting awarded to Apple.

"Unregistered iPhone 3 Trade Dress - Yes
Unregistered Combination iPhone Trade Dress - NO
Unregistered iPad/iPad 2 Trade Dress - NO"

I don't understand?

Prove me wrong. They had 700 decisions to go through and they did it in three days? This thing should have taken at least a week if not more to settle if they we're doing their job correctly.

Prove you wrong? Hahaha. The burden is on you to prove such a ridiculous statement right.

Go for it!

Ofcourse Apple likes it. Apple created some brand new markets that almost instantly got ripped off by other companies in record time.

Nothing wrong with that, but it's easy to see why they have the upper hand here.

If Samsung really wanted to compete they would have innovated instead of trying to copy Apple.

But the finding is that Samsung was (mostly) NOT innovating...

(Not making a judgment of whether this is a good or bad thing. Just stating a fact.)

Hahaha hilarious how emotional the response to a patent case is. It's bizzare. Popcorn.gif

You all listen to this and get back to me in an hour:

Scorecard so far:
* Jury finds Samsung infringement of Apple utility, design patents for some (though not all) products
* Jury finds willful infringement on 5 of 6 patents.
* Jury upholds Apple utility, design patents
* Jury upholds Apple trade dress '983

Apple wants the same thing as all companies.

Apple wants as much money as possible.

How much did they make when all the plebs couldn't afford the $600 on contract iPhone?

Damn, feel bad for Samsung. I certainly agree on some of these willful infringement verdicts but to have it be a row of yes's.. Damn.

Wait wait wait, apple trademarked the bounce-back? Why on earth would a system allow such a thing to be patented. That's like saying Henry Ford could have patented the auto-mobile and we would be here in 2012 with far inferior cars costing twice as much.

Let me guess, the patent office isn't a 'non profit' organisation?

im sorry whats the "bounce-back" this better not be a "return to home GUI screen" or something

This jury fucking sucks. They clearly don't know what they're doing. I'm not saying Samsung should have one every issue in this trial, but them being crushed this badly? No. This is a travesty.

I don't understand?

There are a lot of weird selective verdicts flying around. Such as validity for one variant of a phone but not another. AT&T vs. TMO's variants for examples, they all looked the same.
