Yes, I was left unsatisfied by Frances, so I downloaded some porn and achieved release. :lol

Grenada got shelled. Looks like Dominica avoided a bit of a catastrophe. Jamaica is about to catch a root down, and seems the storm might miss Florida altogether now. No punk ass pinwheel's gonna rain on my parade. :D PEACE.

Well it is almost time for me to leave Miami, getting tired of South Beach anyway.
I will be pissed if I go back to Connecticut and some damn storm follows :(

Man, that Earth Observatory photo is mind-blowing. Awesome photo even w/o Ivan!

P.S. I love how the track now is pointed at Tallahassee...

ivan is way smaller than frances or Charley, the hurricane force winds only extend 35 miles from the center.

This is due to the eye wall replacement Ivan is undergoing, that why the speed shot up to 160 mph. The replacement is done, that why Ivan winds now extend out 50 miles and the winds have droped to 150. Also Charley was much smaller than Ivan, even when it was 35 miles out.

EarthWindFire: you seem pretty knowledgable about hurricanes.... what else is happening or likely to happen, with Ivan? is it likely to get significantly stronger before it hits Jamaica?

looks like its headed for me, again. :p Hopefully it'll weaken significantly over jamaica/cuban mountains/south florida and by the time it gets here it'll be vat 1/2 or something.

Sorry I actually know very little, I am just repeating what I was told by someone else on another forum.

now we had the power out for 2 days from Frances, and we're 150+ miles north of Panama City...what is this thing gonna do if it makes landfall on the panhandle instead of the pennisula??? :/

well, some good news, there is a high pressure area to the east of Florida getting stronger which should steer the Hurricane by Monday away from Florida, but there is a High Pressure area over Texas coming from the west to east, so a corridor is being made where Ivan is heading for north Florida/Alabama area.

look again. Ivan IS there. lower right portion of the photo, on the horizon :D

Yeah I saw it -- I was simply saying even without Ivan in the photo, it still would have been amazing.

it seem the WORST of Ivan has just missed Jamaica, thankfully. the eye did not actually make landfall on that island.

Ivan now headed to the Caymans and Cuba.

Maybe it's just me....

"TWC just reported that Ivan is now a Cat-5 once again. 165 mph winds."

:/

And it's heading right towards the panhandle...great.

yeah it weakened from Cat 5 down to Cat 4... and I thought it would weaken more down to a Cat 3... but instead it strengthened yesterday to a very strong Cat 4 with 155 mph winds. then it started weakening again, down to a midrange Cat 4... then within the last few hours it strengthened back up to Cat 5 with 165 mph winds / 914 mb pressure that is stronger than it ever was before (160 mph / 920 mb was its previous high)

Yep, and now its strong enough that it could retain hurricane strength by the time it reaches Georgia/Atlanta. Time to check on the insurance.
