Crysis 2 |OT| This is what happens Larry...

Hahaha oh man we have got to have the option to use the MAXIMUM guy in Spanish, German, French, and other languages. Praying there's a way to extract and substitute the files

So....where do we throw molotovs for the lack of a preload on Steam? Crytek or EA?

I'm pumped for the game. I guess I'll leave the wife explicit instructions on how to download tuesday morning. =(

Also, do they honestly need to have a suit voice detailing objectives?

Maybe the difference between the soldier you play and some of the low IQ enemies, is having a suit telling you what to do all the time...

Wrong. You should visit this thread sometime.

Ironically the last three pages has vanilla Crysis screens :)

And dont tell that those arent representative, because if i had game installed i could make much worse.
And they dont even show aggressive LOD, like for example rocks pop-in 20 meters in front of You in Crysis 1, or LOD models/textures change in Warhead 5 meters in front of You.

Those are perfectly representative because they look phenomenal. Are you actually trying to suggest otherwise?

Right because shitty jpeg compression has absolutely no effect on image quality. Nice job pal.
First 3 are .png and if You compress bmp to jpg [even with 90% quality setting] You almost cant tell the difference between png and jpg.

They do look good, but I think the single player shots of Crysis 2 look quite a bit better.

No that's pretty close to what I remember the game looking like (at least the day time shots) and I was playing it near max settings.

Well I was following the line of discussion where it was suggested that vanilla Crysis was "nothing special" anymore, which is of course preposterous.

Crysis 2 has vastly improved lighting and IQ no doubt. Image quality has always been an issue with Crysis and was a tradeoff for the complex foliage and texture effects it was pushing.

Only after spending over a minute switching between them and staring closely at every inch of those shots have I determined that the only difference is that the orange signs are eeeever so slightly blurrier than the other.

edit: the red tower is also slightly faded

Steam cloud screenshots don't use 90% or 95% quality though, as far as I know.

On your Steam screenshot, would you mind uploading a version that has arrows drawn in paint or the GIMP or something (you can save them as PNG so you don't lose further quality) pointing to the areas that have lower detail? I crammed my face up to the monitor and could see a little difference in the edges of a bright orange sign and a small blue sign, but if I am missing major differences I would like to know them.

I think that the blue solar panels at the bottom have the most noticeable difference. The lines are slightly blurred out and less sharp. The entire point isn't that the differences jump out at you, but there is a difference and the image is worse even if you can't tell how or why the second you see it.

lol I spent a good 3-4 minutes trying to discern the difference between those two shots and came up empty, including those blue planels. Tried it from various distances too... extremely up close, sort of up close, a bit farther, lol. You'd literally have to get a magnifying glass to see any noticeable difference, if there even was one.

EDIT: ok I just noticed the very slight blur on the lines on those blue panels but that is beyond OCD and I had to get within 6-8 inches from the screen to notice this. I sit about 3-4 feet from my 23" display

Does anyone know if boxed copies on PC use Steam?

I wish. I'd kill for every pc game to be able to work on steam with the cd key, just bought saints row 2 on amazon for $6 after shipping and that works on steam.

Problem with the console versions (for me) is the horrible aliasing. That's the sole version I am going with the PC (along with the better framerate and less aggressive LOD). Without those issues the console versions look great.

Nope, there is practically no difference noticeable to the naked eye from the normal viewing distance, it's extremely minute. And that image, with many low frequency areas, is much poorer fit for JPEG compression than Crysis jungle screens are.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but since the game is near release and some people have their hands on it already - have there been any retail-build comparisons from the 360 to PS3 yet?

They're very, very similar judging from the videos. PS3 runs at 1024x720 and 360 runs at 1152x720. Framerate seems similar on both.

Yep, Crysis 2 DEFINITELY looks better than that.

I wonder how many people have actually played through Crysis 1 with no mods and tweaks? Doesn't seem like too many people have.

PC gameplay maxed out, sorry for only being 720p and 30fps, but it's pretty much direct feed capture with almost no loss of quality. 5 minutes of (trying to be) stealth(y).

I'm taking requests for one gameplay video, whatever you want, but the LAN has ended and we're leaving in a couple hours, so after this one I can't do anything else. When I play it again it'll be on my own copy and by then we'll all have it :)

Yes, everyone who buys Crysis 2 on console does not actually play the game, but rather their system acts as a dedicated server for the superior PC version.

i see what you did there.

Sorry but I'm not gonna give out my email just to DL that vid. Unless I'm going about it all wrong. And why not 60fps?
