Crystal Dynamics is making layoffs for the third time this year: Nearly 30 people have been laid off to optimize the continued development of TR

Just let the series die and go out with a bang finally revealing the Nude Raider code. I still know it is a real thing and that I wasn't just a gullible horny teen.

Needs more OG Lara Croft and impeccable level design and let the dungeons/tombs tell their own story instead of Insecurity Complex 101. The TR 1-6 remasters have been the best thing to come out of the franchise in recent times and Crystal Dynamics had no hand in that.

Yeah I am pretty ok with the franchise being dead right now because at least we got the excellent remasters. I had a blast going through 3 and 4, as challenging as they are. And I still have the expansions for 1 and 2 to complete.

I won't say no to Legend-Anniversary-Underworld remasters, since the dlc has never left Xbox 360.

TR2 and 4 are among my all time greats. But this, I expect nothing from, I already see unskipable on rail sections, basic no depth combat, lesbian inuendo, and "male=pig" implications. Fuck modern video games and culture enabling them in general.

Anyway, I guess reveal is close, since they're firin'.

None of which are the target audience of Tomb Raider so devs shouldn't give a fuck about their opinions. Good characters are universal, not a "product of their time". Everyone loves a badass character if well made, no matter how antihero that character is.
It's not that simple.
A character like Lara is a big deal. Which of course is the point of changing her to represent certain modern ideals. It's quite impossible to create a brand-new woke character and expect him/her to become as big as Lara was in her heyday. So these people must hijack famous characters and IPs to reach a sizable audience.

On the other hand, publishers are afraid that keeping "problematic" characters like old Lara exactly as they were 30 years ago would be bad publicity and would lose them customers. And of course they want to milk their biggest IPs, so they don't care if the character gets turned into a travesty of his/her old self if the name alone can get them a few million sales. Of course the IP will get tarnished, but they can't see that far and don't care anyway.

The devs don't really care, as they are the ones with the "modern" ideals who are changing classic characters to fit their agenda. Anyone who'd want to make a game with good old Lara Croft knows better than to work for CD, where most of the people who actually make the games will never let them do that.

yep. the people involved in creating these games are themselves their own target 'modern audience'. they are owning & mutating an existing franchise to suit their own tastes/fantasies, & they've very obviously been given the go-ahead to do whatever the hell they want...
