Also, I heard Epic was gonna be a Pixar film, I would have love to see their version of it.
It never got quite that far. It was in development with Chris Wedge, Blue Sky and Fox. IIRC, at some point Fox put it in turnaround and Wedge was allowed to shop the project around. Lasseter and Pixar were interested but when it came to handing over rights and whatnot, Fox decided they would greenlight production themselves and push forward.

What about Cars 2 tho?

I wonder if it will be as boring as the original.

I'm still puzzled why the felt they needed to make Planes a thing... and THAT got a sequel too. I thought they were done making direct to video films because they felt (well, they knew) they were watering down their own image and products.

Planes isn't Pixar (yeah, I know, that's weird).

Edit: Of course I am beaten, so I am forced to add original content:

In terms of the direct to DVD stuff; Lasseter cancelled the ones in development when he took creative head of Disney after the Pixar merger, but then immediately started greenlighting new ones at a faster pace than ever. It's strange

Everyone thought that Toy Story 3 would be a shameless cash-in, and that Toy Story 2 wrapped the story up nicely. I'm inclined to give Lasseter the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Cars 3- eh, Disney going to grab all of the money, I guess.

Incredibles II- YES. Part of me still doesn't believe it's happening, but YES

No, Lasseter was against DTV sequels and the like. More 'original' movie series like Planes and Tinkerbell are perfectly fine for them.

There's certainly an argument to be made that the theatrical release and perception of Planes falsely being a Pixar film were problematic if the goal is to protect those brands.

Wait Planes isn't a Pixar movie?
Correct. It was made by DisneyToon Studios which generally makes Disney's DTV movies and spinoff stuff. I believe they were first formed to handle the DuckTales movie. In recent years the Tinkerbell and Planes franchises have been their focus.

What about the next diamond editions any announcements after Aladdin we have nothing

We'd expect the re-release of Pinocchio to be next, since it's the only vault title that hasn't gotten a Diamond release yet. None of the films that still haven't gotten a Blu-Ray release really need the Diamond treatment (I mean, Black Cauldron isn't suddenly going to be something Disney puts a lot of effort into)

That's really strange... I was really impressed when he said that.

John Lasseter joining Disney with the purchase of Pixar made it clear that he disliked DisneyToon's undercutting the value of the feature animated films with the sequel and prequel.

At the April 2008 unveiling of Disney's animated feature line up, it was announced that DisneyToon Studios would no longer produce future sequels to Disney animated films, but will instead focus on spin-offs and original films. Also, the division was under the banner of renamed Feature Animation studio, now called Walt Disney Animation Studios, led by Catmull and Lasseter.

That would explain why the Disney Animation Studios output has increased in quality since... but I don't know how he still greenlit anything Planes related... and now we're doing Cars again. I could be wrong, but isn't that one of Pixars biggest cash cows in terms of merchandising?

EDIT: ^^^^ nice timing lol.

Is this their equivalent of a digital ticket?
D23 General Membership
http://www.disneystore.com/d23-general-membership/mp/1341194/1001064/#_

Err, no. That's an annual membership to D23, the club. The only you linked is the free membership (i.e. just registering an account). That has nothing to do with the D23 conference except that members get first dibs at buying tickets to the conference and get an early-bird price. There's also a paid membership with a magazine subscription.

LOL--I've got some good news for you:

http://comicbook.com/2015/08/14/toy-story-4-will-be-a-woody-and-bo-peep-love-story/

Get ready Bo Peep & Woody shippers, it looks like you’ll finally get the relationship you’ve always wanted in Toy Story 4. With the fourth installment hitting theaters sometime in 2017, it looks like Pixar is finally giving fans a chance to dive deeper into the Bo Peep character. The news was announced by Disney's John Lasseter himself in an interview with CNBC where he said ""It's a love story with Woody and—and this is news—Bo Peep!" Will we see actress Annie Potts return to the character? Only time will tell.

If they set it between Toy Story 2 and 3 then, well there won't be a dry eye in the theatre when the movie ends.

I recall seeing somewhere it is about Woody re-uniting with Bo Peep. So it'd still be after 3 (which makes sense, it is Toy Story 4 after all)

Wasn't it implied that Woody gets together with the doll owned by the little girl at the end of Toy Story 3? It's been awhile since I've seen it.

Finding Dory could be great. I like The Incredibles all right, but I wonder if two'll be as much of a sexist Dad movie as the original. :/ I'll probably still enjoy it, but I hope it focuses on Elastigirl more this time.

Eh, I look at this Pixar lineup and I just see a lineup of films waiting to take awards and recognition from other animated films that deserve it more. I'll probably drag my feet pretty hard when my wife wants to go see Toy Story 4. I just hope I don't fall asleep in the theater, because I'd actually want it to be a good time. Sigh. Meanwhile, can't get anybody to go to a Ghibli film with me. And fuck Cars.

He said its a sequel, so I'm guessing when they referred to "losing" Bo Peep in Toy Story 3, she just went missing and the next movie will be about them going to find her.

Right, OK. I might need you to qualify this for me.
It portrays the traditional nuclear family unit as the greatest thing ever. Helen is a strong feminist in the beginning, but becomes a subservient house Mom who wants to maintain the status quo, and doesn't regain her former glory until Bob becomes a superhero again first. Mirage is just a pawn, and after helping the Incredibles, disappears forever from the movie. Edna is ironically the most interesting character in the movie, even though the other female characters are there to perpetuate stereotypes.

Anyway, have a look at this lovely alternate opening to the film that really sticks it to those "tight ass feminists".

I'm sure I'm just getting offended too easily, though, because the movie is a CLASSIC. A CLASSIC. And just look at that Helen's ASS in that suit-up scene, right? (I'm guilty of hypocritically liking that scene)

Have an ultra-feminist blog post that goes into detail on this point of view, although it's far harsher on the film than I am.

Thanks for asking! I still like the movie, but I think it has definite problems in these areas.

What about Cars 2 tho?

I will defend Cars 2 till my death. I don't mean that it's a great movie, or anywhere near Pixar's best, but it absolutely shits all over Cars 1. Every complaint that people had about the first movie (no villain, no action, lazy meandering plot, etc) is addressed in the sequel. Not only that but the writers specifically went out of their way to make it a real spy film, and if the characters were anything other than anthropomorphic cars it would have easily been rated PG-13 for the amount of death and torture that's in it. So yes, Cars 2 fits that quote, because it's better than the original in every way. Cars was "fine" but boring, the Cars Toons are cute and charming (the one where Mater is a detective is AMAZING though) and Cars 2 is the best thing they've done with the property yet. As long as they make it more like Cars 2 and the Cars Toons, and stay as far away from the original as possible, it'll be a fine, fun kid's movie.

I'm still puzzled why the felt they needed to make Planes a thing... and THAT got a sequel too. I thought they were done making direct to video films because they felt (well, they knew) they were watering down their own image and products.

When I pitched to Disney a couple years ago I got a tour of Disney Toon and the whole Planes thing was explained to me as, Lasseter saw the Tinkerbell movies, and that they were hugely successful with little girls, and he wanted to make a DTV series for boys. So Planes was created, since kinds in general are fuckin mental for Cars already, and somewhere along the line they got the idea to release it theatrically instead of DTV (which IMO was a mistake). But it was, from the beginning, planned as a trilogy.

All these Pixar sequels kinda confirm me not being a huge Pixar fan anymore...

This is just what they've announced for shareholders. Sequels = money, new unproven IPs = jack shit, so they announce the sequels to calm investors down. There are lots of original IPs TBA from Pixar still. Their plan is to release 3 films every 2 years, two originals and one sequel. We're just getting through the 2 originals year (Inside Out and Good Dinosaur) and next year is Finding Dory, so the year after that will have at least one original, unannounced IP.

Plus I'm sure Good Dinosaur getting shuffled and delayed messed some stuff up.
