Oh God yes. So in.

One question. Why couldn't the person making it use the full rift from the collaborators series? I'd love to have heard that.

That said, I'm nitpicking. I really do hope this gets released tomorrow.

I completely forgot about it.

I just created it from the three SNL snippets. I'll update it if the song doesn't get released on Monday.

Can I say something controversial, was it KWest's sample what really made them mainstream? I know they always had their following, but apparently their highest charting album before Tron was Discovery at #44 in the U.S. I remember I only really knew one guy in art college who digged them as much as me and had Interstella 5555 but coming from a U.K perspective I don't know if they were all that popular. Anyone want to chime in?

It probably helped, but I remember their videos being all over MTV. Around the World especially and then a few years later their animated videos from Discovery.

They've been mainstream since Discovery I think, but the Kanye sample probably did help.

I don't think so. Discovery was an album that I think most everyone liked.. they mostly gained popularity through word of mouth.

daft punk was huge/mainstream in germany since "around the world". that song was everywhere when i was a kid (radio, every music video channel...).

when "one more time" came out it got really crazy. it also helped that there was an anime and mange hype in the early 2000's in germany.

I heard One More Time everywhere as a kid. I didn't realize it was Daft Punk at the time but I definitely knew the song was really popular.

He's not the best singer but I guess it works out here for most of the song. I still don't like it when he tries to sing in a high pitch.

Sounds great.

How long until Kanye West steals (samples) this in order to hide his lack of talent and get yet another hit.

Lets not act that Daft Punk doesn't sample heavily as well.

They're both good at what they do take an existing piece of music and re-twist it.

They were 'mainstream' well before that. In the UK their videos were on MTV and The Box all the time starting with Da Funk and that was way back in 95.

I'm obviously not trying to hate, but in all likelyhood this album is going to number 1 considering Tron went to number 4 on the Billboard chart but with Human After All only peaking at 98 something tells me something happened in between.

Damn it! Was the ad after SNL? I recorded it on my DVR just to catch the teaser, but I don't see it anywhere. I wanted to have it in HD 5.1 on my big plasma.

I think Columbia would be hugely disappointed if it didn't debut at number 1.

Between HAA and Tron there was Daft Punk is Playing At My House, LCD Soundsystem blowing up, Kanye's Stronger, Alive 2007 and the dawn of the current EDM boom. Still, it is amusing how DP became so massive in their absence.

Christ almighty, after just a few listens I'm already addicted to this tune, best thing I've heard in years. Its like having sex, in space, with everyone you've ever been attracted to.

To look like its digitally altered? Don't know, the glare from the sequence suits is pretty surreal but could probably be pulled off practically as well

No, I mean I don't think it was even digitally altered. They could've probably done the whole thing via classic means to give it more of that 80s feel.

So the shots probably wasn't touched at all during post.

In the US here and purely anecdotal, but those songs were huge and popular but still viewed through a prism as a "European techno" lens. I think a lot of things came together in the last couple years including Kanye's tremendous sampling and the buzz around their last big tour with the light pyramid.

You obviously don't remember the massive disappointment when HAA was first released. When it leaked, everyone thought it was fake, because it was so underwhelming. Time has been kind to it (Alive 2007 helped), but it pretty much got destroyed by fans/press. Not surprising it flopped in the charts.

Most Daft Punk tracks have a real timeless quality to them. I would never describe Pharrell as timeless.
Well, he's about to become timeless in the form of this one specific song. Not just a single individual but a collective; greater than the sum of it's parts. :)
As others have said, I've become addicted to this song already but I'm being careful with not burning myself out before the actual song is even out lol.

I'm not a huge DP fan, so maybe they've done this in the past? But just having some dude sing on the track feels so NOT Daft Punk. And they have a full list of people guest singing on the album.... Guess they felt like it was time for something different? Or going for more mainstream success?

I'll listen to the full album w/ an open mind though. Actually excited about the Julian Casablanca song.

Also one of their best songs.

The followup song Too Long also has vocals.

They had a guest guy singing on the lead single of Discovery. They had Todd Edwards sing on another song from that album. Todd Edwards is one of the guests on this album. On the tracklist otherwise, Nile Rodgers will not be singing. Moroder will not be singing. Some other names will likely just contribute jamming. Only a few guests will 'just sing' and yeah, it's not unheard of from Daft Punk.

I remember the furrow but honestly I don't think it made little difference. Heck, I doubt most negative press adversely affects sales considering Homework, Discovery and Human After All were at 150, 44 and 98 respectively (Alive is 169); It really wasn't a flop by their standards. And obviously, I'm using the U.S solely as the metric here but i'm wondering why there absence has allowed them to become an even more relevant act. Maybe people are playing catch up.
