Here's hoping John Williams has a great score or two left in him. I've felt his work has really fallen off over the past decade, but there were still the occasional gems in there.

His Munich score was his last great outing.

But reports have indicated the Tintin score he's been composing is something special, something thematic.

Tintin is going to be so fucking tits. Easily my most anticipated of the year.

That and PoA are honestly the only two of his Ive loved since he was consistently churning out classics, which hasn't been since about the mid-90's.

You need to re-listen to the AI score

Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, along with Hal Holbrook, James Spader, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill and Joseph Cross are in negotiations to join the pic.

Please tell me that Holbrook is playing Mark Twain.

I was about to mention that. His A.I. score is fucking boss.
Catch Me If You Can is great as well, especially the opening titles. But the whole soundtrack is great.

Catch Me If You Can's score is like Minority Report's - one or two fantastic cues, but not an overall great score.

Don't forget Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Timur bekmambetov. 2012 is gonna be a year to remember. Bond 23, MI4, Bourne 4, Hobbit, Lincolns, Life of Pi

Psst. MI4 comes out THIS year! :D

Is it wrong to be more excited for Bird's MI4 than for the next James Bond?
When you have Giachino reteaming with Bird on another spy outing, with the cast they have, then I think its acceptable.

Holy shit.

How do you method act Lincoln? It's not possible to be that much of a boss in 2011 without going to jail.

But one is shot by Roger Deakins and one isn't. :)

Honestly though, I think MI:4 will rock this winter. Can't wait, they need to release the teaser I saw soon!

John Carter of Mars

The Amazing Spider-Man

2012 is gonna be great. And thats without (Cogan's Trade aside) even looking at the dramas!

MI4 is this year? Damn.

Edit: Well I suppose it's a good thing in the end. It will give breathing room to other blockbusters.

As awesome as he is, he can't do an American accent to save his life.
People in the 19th century didn't even really have American accents the way you think of them today

(edit: sorry for the necromancer response)

Really?

I would call Catch Me If You Can's music a classic score, but Minority Report's score barely sounded like John Williams.

I'm curious how DDL is going to portray the voice in particular, because that's one of the things he likes to specifically nail down for each character he plays.

Lincoln was known as an exceptional writer but not much of a public speaker, and he allegedly had a fairly tiny, unimpressive, even shrill voice. Will be very interesting to see what DDL does with it.

How could you forget about The Hobbit and Prometheus?

And I think I'm more excited for MI4 because of Bird. I fucking LOVE Bird. He's one of the directors where I feel like he makes his movies specifically for me. He knows exactly how to push my movie buttons.

Hopefully he does it authentic then - I love DDL, but boy, does he ever chew the scenery at times.

Oh and speaking of John Carter of Mars, I'm halfway through The Princess of Mars. Will be very interesting just how faithful they are to the book, considering the amount of violence in it.

MI4 is definitely going to be one of the highlights of the year.

And a year it will be, unless somehow Batman, Superman, Bond, and John Carter all somehow suck.

I really like Iron Giant and Ratatouille too, and The Incredibles is the only animated film I genuinely love, but still, we've never seen him do live action.

Every time I hear period impressions of Lincoln, they always sound like olde tyme prospectors.

Indeed. Plus Prometheus/Hobbit which have been pointed out, plus all the great Oscar season dramas. Im loving 2011 so far, but 2012 is going to utterly destroy it. Might be the two best consecutive years since 2006 and 2007 for me.

Before it destroys the world!

Not seeing much love for Life of Pi. So glad Ang Lee is doing it. I think it's gonna be his return to form after slightly OK lust caution. I was really worried when Shyamalan was eying the thing. IMDB
The protagonist, Piscine Molitor "Pi" Patel, an Indian boy from Pondicherry, explores issues of spirituality and practicality from an early age. He survives 227 days after a shipwreck, while stranded on a boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger.

Even if Spielberg actually does start filming this soon (finally), does anyone truly believe that it will be out in 2012? 2013 seems a lot more likely to me.

Yep. I had been looking forward to this years releases for a long time. The start of the year has been pretty barren for good films, but the second half of this year is like an express train to FUCKAWESOME TOWN with a detour through the tunnel of HOLY SHIT.

And next year looks to be just as good.

Absolutely. He has done all his prep work over the last few years like he did with Munich.

He shot Munich in a span of 6 weeks. From principal photography through to the film's release it was 5 months I believe (in the midst of WotW's release as well) and Munich is one of the best films of the last decade and one of the best of his career. Lincoln will be no problem, he's not Cameron.

Doesn't seem like too difficult a turnaround. Shooting in fall 2011, likely completed by the end of the year. Then a release date of the last week of December 2012. Seems reasonable.

Let's just hope it's not a bore like The Conspirator. Ugh, Robert Redford.

Well Malick seems to have something new for 2012 anyway.

The Rachel McAdams/Javier Bardem one? Haven't kept up much on it. Is it due out next year? That would be amazing. I wonder what bug bit Terrence Malick!

Old age :p

And I don't know if it's confirmed for next year, but I think shooting on The Burial has wrapped already.

No release date yet, but I could see it being 2012 or 2013.

You can also almost bet the Coens will announce a film by the end of this year, and have it finished by 2012.
I want to believe that Michael Mann will be out with a blockbuster by 2012 too.

2001 - Ali
2004 - Collateral
2006 - Miami Vice
2009 - Public Enemies
2012 - ???

Man, i really hope Spielberg makes a comeback to the Schindler days. Back when he released shit like Jurrasic Park and Schindler's list in the same year. I mean i have really enjoyed his recent stuff but didnt really love it. They only had hints of brilliance and werent actually brilliant.
